I've never read the details of SQL Server KB articles - where would it call out whether a service restart is involved with a patch or do they always involved a service restart?
Sure, it says "After you install this update, you may have to restart your computer" but the service itself, is that ever called out or do you as a dba just assume it'll bring the database offline
