How many years do you need to use SQL Server before you realise HOLDLOCK doesn't mean hold locks?
Like, how long do you think modification exclusive locks were held for anyway?
And how much longer than the end of the transaction do you think HOLDLOCK would hold them for?
A week?
If HOLDLOCK ever needed to exist at all, it would be better as a synonym for REPEATABLEREAD
Which does hold shared locks longer than normal (to the end of the transaction).

@PaulWhite i really don't understand why ssms chooses to draw some groups of joins along a straight line and draw some at angles

@Vlad if you're asking my permission to create and test an index, you're never going to get anywhere. — Erik Darling 14 secs ago

why don't you just issue a permit to the man

> Since you're on some damnable Microsoft cloud version of SQL Server, your storage is awful and you don't have near enough memory to keep the data you care about cached in memory.
Those HTTP waits. In a database. My god, what were they thinking
It's not even cheap
@ErikDarling To be fair to SSMS, it's just rendering the xml and using the nested structures it finds there
In other words, it has the structure the optimiser produced
Well yeah. I get that. It just makes looking at some plans quite an adventure.
8:50 PM
Looks weird, for sure

I sometimes wonder if the graphical plans a the best vehicle given all the new information that has been added
The amount hidden in tool tips and properties is inconvenient at times

@ErikDarling I suppose it will always be a compromise between summary view and detail overload
@SeanGallardy Yeah well I know you're planning HTTP waits for memory access next so don't act all innocent or act like you're one of the good guys 🤣
@PaulWhite I wasn't, I was throwing shade on MS for doing http calls for disk storage.
It's all about the Benjamin's baby
Yeah, going over ms latency networks for ns latency memory is gonna be great
But you are MS
Am I though?

@Lamak I need you now more than ever
Can you make this so it says Erik D up top and Reasonable Rates at the bottom
