I m migrating from DB_A (postgres) to DB_B (postgres). DB_A uses IDs as primary keys, while DB_B uses UUIDs. So, I ll create the UUIDs. But where do I store the ID-UUID mapping?

Would it be horrible to store it in DB_A? Just add an extra column with autogenerated UUIDs, which aren't used at all by my Django rest framework. Only for the migration.

- What exactly is meant with migration
- Are you moving from db a to b within the same instance? Or to different instance/server?
- Will you have both databases running in parallel for a while? (and do more data migrations later)?
- How big are the (biggest) tables (sizes in rows / GB).
- where will the UUIDs be generated, in the database or in the application?
- Are there FKs?

@ErikDarling so my biggest gripe is the grammar TBH. I guess English isn't their first language, and that's fine, but no one proof reads anymore? And more so I mean just the plain typos: "begin held" instead of "being held" for example.
