@Johnakahot2use thanks for a great race, John - you're a great asset to the site!

Hello all, I was attempting to be helpful earlier on something, and flushed all of the non-mod room owners. Good intentions, but then I didn't get a chance to post any followup. Some of our room owners haven't been around in a while, and there are probably some new "regulars" who would be good for room owners. Not everyone may know what the privileges are on a room owner, but the main thing is removing messages.
Usually if a mod is around, they can do all the things, but for when we are all tardy or missing, there's a need for additional users to help out. None of my actions were intended to be an offense to anyone, just trying to do some spring cleaning. So, nominations: Just reply to this and either curse at me or nominate someone.

A: A guide to moderating chat

TarynWhat tools are available to room owners? Room owners are users that have some elevated permissions in a chat room. Typically, they will be the first line of defense when it comes to inappropriate content or behavior in a room. Users will look to the room owners to guide the room. The room owners...

I knew the new mod would be someone I would have no objections against
As for the other issue, if I may be so bold...

@jcolebrand I wasn't sure if it was something I as a room owner could just go ahead and do but I added Johnakahot2use myself. If you still meant for everyone to go through this kind of nomination process, please let me know, and I apologise if that's the case.

Morning
Is there a way to remove your own messages without being a room owner?

no, only up to 2 min after posting

@McNets Please keep in mind that room owners actually have the same limitation as @ypercubeᵀᴹ mentioned. They can remove only their own messages and only within the 2-minute window. What they can do beside that is they can move messages to a different room. Usually (I think) this is used to move messages to one of the multiple trash rooms (and we have our own), which is similar to removal but not exactly the same thing. Just clarifying.

ok, thanks @ypercubeᵀᴹ @AndriyM

congrats to @MaxVernon , our 7th elected moderator!

@AndriyM Oh, what a surprise. Thanks.

@AndriyM I really meant it more to be a discussion, and less "cole is the gatekeeper"
@TomV Well, and when I was doing some spring cleaning on various things, I got interrupted by the better half, so I was a bit delayed. Fortunately this is all just imaginary internet points <3 and now it's fixed.
@TomV I'm sorry that it took a minute to get it all cleaned up

3:38 PM
@jcolebrand gasp, I'm no longer a room owner
curse you, I say

lol
Can change my mod vote? :P

lol

that's better
typed in the entirely wrong user id lol

Oh I just click their name here in chat. If they aren't in chat why would they be a room owner :p

you and your fancy ways lol

Who even elected this n00b

lol that's what I mean. Who's responsible - I WANT TO TALK TO THE MANAGER

@jcolebrand Well, you did say that we suggest nominations in reply to your message, so it kind of looked as though you wanted to have some control over the process :)

5:04 PM
@AndriyM I may do some things haphazardly but I do try to be sane :D
We should at least discuss who the room owners will be and a reply opens it for discussion
Doesn't make my way right, but then again, I try not to be :D
Some of the former room owners haven't logged in in six months or more
I figured wipe it and start fresh, new discussions, new crowd.
A lot of the original regulars are all gone, they moved on 3-6 years ago. Like I said, spring cleaning, not elimination.
Once we get a happy set here we should clean up the other site-rooms to match appropriately

That makes total sense to me, and just to make clear @jcolebrand, I was just messing around. I didn't mean to suggest you are some kind of control freak. (I know better than to cross you.)
;)

It's the gun isn't it?
Just cos I live in TX doesn't mean I actually own a gun :p That's why the monkey has one.

I absolutely agree, it doesn't have to be your own gun

lol

Truthfully the only reason anyone should ever be scared of me is because I'm pretty chaotic neutral. It tends to border on chaotic good, but c'est la vie

Damned dirty franco-texans
Apes, whatever. Same thing

Frisco-Texan sir. We have standards here :p

SPEEK ENGLISH!

YAM!!

5:59 PM
Chaotic neutral – what does that even mean?

picture a monkey, with a gun.

That... kind of works

a monkey without a gun is just neutral. But a monkey with a gun, that's chaotic neutral. It might shoot you, and it might not, and it might or might not be on purpose.

Oh, I thought it was like, if it shoots you, it's not because it either does or doesn't like you. In other words, it stays perfectly neutral to whoever it shoots.

6:20 PM
Basically that too
So the term is from DND
> A chaotic neutral character is an individualist who follows their own heart and generally shirks rules and traditions. Although chaotic neutral characters promote the ideals of freedom, it is their own freedom that comes first; good and evil come second to their need to be free.
In the Dungeons & Dragons (D&D) fantasy role-playing game, alignment is a categorization of the ethical and moral perspective of player characters, non-player characters, and creatures. Most versions of the game feature a system in which players make two choices for characters. One is the character's views on "law" versus "chaos", the other on "good" versus "evil". The two axes allow for nine alignments in combination. According to Ian Livingstone, alignment is "often criticized as being arbitrary and unreal, but... it works if played well and provides a useful structural framework on which not...
I wouldn't say that I'm always more concerned with my own freedom but I definitely like the monkey and gun analogy :D
If you go with the monkey and gun thing, often times I do a thing because I know it to be right, but can't quite spell out why. This is not strictly related to Stack Overflow or Database Administrators but rather to my life in general

Sounds familiar. I've had my fair share of hard times finding words to explain things I just know I understand.

Q: Service Broker Error - The conversation handle is not found

sqldbandAll, A new third party application using Service Broker on SQL Server 2017 is causing the error log to report numerous failed query delivery notifications due to conversation handle not found. I've ensured the Service Broker is enabled from sys.service_queues and have restarted the Service Broke...

I don't want to unilaterally close it, but it seems slightly "too locallized" to me.

I'd be interested in finding out what the root cause was but I'm guessing it's resolved in some way on their end

I would too
