am i having a stroke or does this warrant a question on main?
is it both?
i feel like maybe it's both
does the tag exist on dba?

@PeterVandivier "Image not found"
Definitely a stroke.

@PeterVandivier sounds like your local MySQL had a stroke. Or you have some weird character (a zero width space, for example, which used to be popular here some time ago)

diff'rent strokes for diff'rent IDEs i guess? 🤔

I think DELIMITER is interpreted by the mysql CLI. It's not recognised as a SQL command by the engine itself
Not 100% sure as I'm not an expert, though, but that's how I understand it

does mysql workbench pipe commands into the CLI? the reason i started head-desking is 'cause i couldn't create a proc with a while loop in the GUI

No idea

9:25 AM
adding the "DELIMITER $$" bit to the MySQL Workbench pane makes the sea of red go away at least

Maybe it's recognised by both
Similar to how GO in SQL Server is recognised by both SSMS and the CLI tools (osql and sqlcmd)

except for the dbfiddle "good" syntax doesn't work in mysql workbench
so i guess... wtf is dbfiddle using?

@PeterVandivier You could ask @Forrest

or @JackDouglas - where you at?

I meant Jack actually. My head ain't working today

9:42 AM
@PeterVandivier I hope you don't consider it wholly rabid that I mentioned a deprecated command-line tool.

@AndriyM Only partially rabid for me

That's a relief (partial at least)

i've had all my jabs

@PeterVandivier As in injections?

yes, it's necessary when going down wild rabbit holes

10:14 AM
@PeterVandivier the php mysql driver — I remember this being asked before but not what the answer was exactly

A: how to execute mysql command DELIMITER

derobertYou probably don't need to change the delimiter. The delimiter is needed in the CLI to tell where the SQL statement ends, because the CLI is going to keep reading and executing more statements until you tell it to stop (e.g., with exit or Control-D). But what it actually reads is just a stream o...
