Dumb question de jour: I can host mutliple AGs on a single Windows FCI?
been a while...
I've been asked, can't Google up a nice one-liner to sum it up authoratively, now I'm second guessing myself...

10:20 AM
@gbn Sorry. I'm not fluent in AGs on FCI.
@TomV Too localized. Ask a consultant?

gbn
@hot2use I'm not using SQL Server FCI. Just AGs on top on Windows FCI.
I found something that will do anyway, I just have to translate "documentation English" to "English for foreigners"

@gbn Yeah, I can relate. I'm writing up a document about Analysis Service and Port/Firewall configuration for our network team. I just pasted in the auto-translated German Docs page and then inserted the untranslated English bits.
IMO There shouldn't be language specific versions of Windows Server. It just creates issues and causes problems.

@hot2use Isn't his "multiculturalism" or something?

10:35 AM
@gbn I have only every seen two great answers to issues with German Windows Servers that were actually written in German. One solution was for an Oracle 12c Issue which had absolutely no English twin and the other answer I can't recall.
Lost cause IMO and I'm very pro-integration

my old DBAs (back when I was in a developer role) used to amuse themselves doing Google translations of SQL Server docs and back again

@hot2use Yes I hate it too when I log on to a customer's system and everything is french or german
Dutch speaking sysadmins have given up on using language specific versions since they used to be horrible and now probably just don't exist any more for server software

@TomV sits in corner sobbing, yearning for English installed servers

A: Postgres SQL column in jsonb or SQL standard normalized table?

dezsoThe rule of thumb in every relational database is normalizing (usually up to 3NF or even 4NF). With the advent of JSON into the relational world, people are often tempted to solve everything using JSON, as it probably means a very simple way of channeling some data moving in the application into...

anything that I could add? tried to keep it short

looks good to me!
and, jsonb is the devil.
well, json in general. and xml.

@MaxVernon oh, JSON (and especially jsonb) are good friends if you (or I) use it, as we know what it is good for. The common developer is usually just happy to use something that looks familiar - that you cannot easily get to your data is a problem for the next guy :D

@dezso lol, so true. It's great for storing non-state items such as http request headers or something like that.

Sometimes adding an answer too quickly can backfire

8:05 PM
@MaxVernon does that question need a sql-server tag?

@JackDouglas yes - thanks, I've added it.
@JackDouglas - this is what I was talking about in my (removed) message above about the "re-open" just in case you're wondering what I'm on about!
The perils of doing too many things at once

Hmm, I re-opened and closed it to clear your reopen vote, but that cleared the delete vote too — If that was from you can you try casting it again?

@JackDouglas will do. thanks
it'll have to wait the requisite 3 days before I can vote-to-delete... no worries - we have it in the "Delete queue" :-)

@MaxVernon You clicked 'reopen' and the confirmation dialog by mistake?
Might be a clue you need to slow down a bit 🙂
