@CasperOne Hi
btw here is a cross-post - what's your view on how we should handle these?:

@JackDouglas Are both of these cross-posted?
Generally, if they are on topic for the specialized site, we close as off topic on SO.
@JackDouglas If you want to have it merged with the answers from SO, then we can migrate and you can do the merge on your end.
Let me get that list together.
I'm about to flood the room, you ok with that @JackDouglas

@casperOne I'm happy to do it that way - I think it is probably best in this case?

@JackDouglas Sure, let me send it over.

@casperOne that's fine - it's a quiet day anyway :-)
@anyone-else feel free to chip in- Casper is about to post some questions that are migration candidates from SO
@gbn I think they may be mostly the result of your flagging

@JackDouglas Here's the dupe to merge into the main question:

They are all the result of his flagging, actually.

2:18 PM
yes, I've been busy

Looking at these questions, my only concern is age, but it's mitigated by the fact that a) there's not a super amount of rep that's going to be lost on the site during the next recalc b) gbn's answers are typically the highest voted and/or accepted, so it's his own rep, so that's ok in my book.
I just don't know if the mods have had a discussion about what you want with old, accepted answers.

gbn
I'm already at 1k+ difference on SO rep

I know that @jcolebrand has some issues on receiving them on this end.

gbn
I didn't flag anything over 2 years, most are less than 18 months

@casperOne we've discussed it - I'll try to bear in mind his thoughts when I look at them

2:20 PM
@JackDouglas In TL, let me know what was discussed.

age on it's own was not the issue

I'll post the questions now
BTW, I don't have a problem with any of these going to dba, btw. I think it's a better home and I don't see huge ramifications by moving these from SO to DBA (not massively upvoted, etc).

That's it.

Well, I'd probably pick it up quite quickly seeing as it's a pirated Sybase :P

Like I said, I think these are all spot on, I don't see any problems with it, I just want to make sure this is in line with whatever the discussion the mods had recently (and @JackDouglas you should fill me in on TL about that).

@Phil I like you :-)

@Phil in the same way that the US was an output of GB. Until a 100 years ago when the student overtook the master
@JackDouglas That myth is older than some folk here

This is the only one I have doubts about because of the way the question is written:

@gbn would you be willing to edit it into plain English when it comes over (or before)?
@casperOne was your name always camelCase? I thought it was CasperOne?

2:30 PM
@JackDouglas Always camel-case, not as a result of programming, just more aesthetically pleasing when I look at it. It's been like that for 10+ years.

@casperOne I'd like them all please - none of these are the least bit controversial in my mind.

hehe

@casperOne oops shows how observant I am

Alright, so, nothing new under the sun? We can continue to migrate gbn's stuff as usually?
@JackDouglas Nah, our contact is intermittent at best, but always a pleasure. It's no big deal.
@gbn Thanks for the flagging, btw, again.

@casperOne If you consider any in the least bit doubtful, please ping me in the TL

gbn
I keep thinking Torrent Leech that my mate is always on about

@JackDouglas Not a problem
They're all migrated, please check your recent migration history

2:34 PM
@casperOne thanks :-)

@gbn I've undeleted the answer here before I migrated, please do something to make it more than a comment

@casperOne only because so far I've noticed a fair few of them getting flagged once they get here ... we don't see all the migrate-in's, altho we probably should stay on top of that, and once reviewed the split is probably more skewed in favor of keep
So it's not like "omg, no migratez"

@jcolebrand May I ask what the flags were when they came in on this end?
@jcolebrand And were they pertaining to @gbn flags specifically?

@casperOne idk who flagged it on your end, I've never asked
@casperOne the older ones? like over 2 years? the ones that were flagged were OT

@jcolebrand I meant on this end, sorry. Were the flags on this end valid? Were they OT?

2:37 PM
@casperOne I eventually closed them, yes

@jcolebrand hello! :-)

the problem is I don't know what the actual transfer rate of Q over 2 year is
if we're only posting over about 5 Q a month older than 2 years, then most are OT
if we're posting over 50 Q a month older than 2 years, then most are actually on topic
I should've decided to start watching those, since I can see the migrate-in's, I just never thought to look at that.

@jcolebrand I'm a little confused, it seems like some correlation between age of question and on topic is being made, which, as I understand, there is none.

@casperOne no, I'm saying I don't know what the statistical correlation is
because I haven't looked
there was an immediate gut-check correlation
"hmmm, I sure am getting flagged on a lot of old Q being migrated in, why is that"
It didn't dawn on me that I could actually do the analysis to confirm

@jcolebrand Could you show me an example of something that was closed as OT which was older? I'd like to see for myself so it can help me understand why it is OT and see if there's a correlation.

2:39 PM
@casperOne sure

@jcolebrand BTW, I'm not contesting you, I'm asking questions to better understand your point of view.

@casperOne I know

@jcolebrand So I can better facilitate content on SO and DBA

gbn
@casperOne done so. @all, agree with me edits please?

and I'm saying "don't take my word for we need to watch stuff over 2 years" to mean "we don't want them" I'm just saying "they probably don't quite match our site here"

2:41 PM
@gbn Yeah, you're good, don't make a habit of being so good, I'll decline a flag just for the hell of it and then migrate it over =P

@gbn looks good
not specifically related, but did come from webmasters (who I think has sent us 5 Q total) dba.stackexchange.com/questions/4821/best-book-to-learn-mysql
@casperOne it does take me a moment to find them

@jcolebrand Oh god, I can't imagine @gbn or I would flag that at all haha

wtf just happened to the front page
lol

@casperOne haha, no

@jcolebrand If you acted on them, you can see it in your mod page under "view recent" although you might have to dig (in case you didn't already know.
@NickChammas That would be me, apologies. There were a batch of migrations we were just discussing.
It occurs to me that we should have talked about the impact of the front page more.

2:44 PM
@casperOne np; I've been flagging stuff on SO for migration here myself

@casperOne yeah, but it seems to only show so many records, since it's "recent" and I'm not immediately seeing them ... grrr
how do we find closed Q on the site :p
ok @casperOne I can't seem to find any >.< but I know it's been three or four

gbn
@jcolebrand not guilty on that one. Was discussed way above

@jcolebrand That was unrelated. It's slated for merge with the exact question that the asker asked on DBA.

yeah, but why does it say "closed" and yet it's still open .. it's like it was merged on Stack Overflow or something and migrated here

@jcolebrand If you come across them, let me know. Also, I'm going to start taking some of the flags I'm seeing on SO and transferring over. There might be 10 or so now, I don't know how fast, but I'd like some feedback on the quality of the migrations.
@jcolebrand It's closed because it's a dupe on this site

2:50 PM
@casperOne yeah, so why did a closed Q get migrated?
just burninate it if it has no value, no?

@jcolebrand It was closed on this side.

@casperOne so why did it get migrated?
I'm still confused
if it was a dupe there

@jcolebrand To be merged with the dupe, as it's an exact dupe.

and the author has a dupe HERE
then it's just going to go away
there's nothing to merge
there's no answers or comments
so I'm just gonna burninate it

@jcolebrand Hmm, there are answers on SO: stackoverflow.com/questions/9011744/…
@jcolebrand And comments.

2:51 PM
@casperOne but not here >.<

b=num-(num-1) will always be -1
the question is baffling

@Phil where do you see that at?

@jcolebrand That's odd. It should have the answers here. There are two answers on SO.

@casperOne if it's already closed as a dupe there and has a dupe here, does it really need to migrate?

2:52 PM
@jcolebrand We wanted the answers on SO to be merged into the answers that were on the dupe here.
@jcolebrand But since they're not there, that's odd.

gbn
num-(num-1) will always be +1, no?

@casperOne so I should undelete it and pass it up to the dev team?
hell, just pass it up to them regardless?

@jcolebrand Let's not pass it up the dev team, they get finicky, but let's ask in TL why the answers might not have been moved over.
@jcolebrand And then escalate as necessary
@gbn Yes

oh yeah. :)

@casperOne no, a meta post is better, because if it is a bug it'll just get logged and have tracking, right?

2:54 PM
brainfart. anyway, still bonkers

@jcolebrand If you want. I'll leave that to you. As long as you think I'm not migrating crap (because there are two answers there) I'm good with whatever approach you want to take.

gbn
@Phil yep. Every code monkey should have some maths competence IMO$

@casperOne oh I figured something broke, that's all
@casperOne if you're migrating, let's just say a number, 10 Q a day, and I complain about 2 in a month, then I don't think you're doing it wrong sir.
my gut-check was that I seemed to see a lot of flags on old Q, but apparently that's been a month ago or more >.<
I was gonna look in the data.se dump and see, but astoundingly the migrated Q flags have disappeared (it's on meta, it's a known issue, it's being resolved)
So I can't even give you data dump stats
which would be easiest, ya know, since it's a question of data, and queries are good at that sort of thing

@jcolebrand I saw that part.
Ok, so we're all good. Thanks for everything guys. Much appreciated.
Let me know if anything else comes up.

Aye

Q: NHibernate Parameter Sniffing, SQL Server 2005 vs SQL Server 2008

F.B. ten KateNHibernate automatically uses sp_executesql with different paramters to execute it's data. Now what we're noticing in production is that we're beeing hit by parameter sniffing sometimes. In such a way that query performance isn't just effected it's actually causing timeouts. I'm not a DBA so i'm...

I'm allergic to Hibernate. Hideous invention
