command line - no problem

simple interface - no problem

web application - no problem

user-friendly gui - crap

Oh, so you mean GUI but not web -- like an actual client-side application. :-) Good luck! (Gotta drop off now, so I'll have to save code-geeking for another time I'm afraid.)
