@mafutrct Laval is a 6-dan player. He's represented both Canada and the USA in the Int'l Youth Championships.
(At different times of course :P)

@Adrian I am a 7-dan AGA and CGA, and I have only represented Canada in international tournaments (International Youth, Ing, etc).

My bad
I thought you did for the AGA too
And my 6-dan thing must just be outdated knowledge :)
Either way, @mafutrct was asking if there's any high-dans yet
You qualify either way, 6 or 7

Three people registered as Experts/Professionals
Anders Kierulf is a professional go programmer
But what makes the two others(Rahul Ramesh, Sam Saffron) experts? Are they high dans?

sam is one of our devs
not sure about his level, though

I know he's a SE dev, but I was a bit surprised when he registered as expert

Anders Kierulf signed up, eh?
Has he posted anything yet?
Anders Kierulf signed up, eh?

10:29 AM
for the record I am not a high dan ... at my strongest I was about 2kyu korean ... at the moment I am probably around 6-7kyu

@AdrianPetrescu He signed up? What's his user? o.o

@mafutrct I dunno, that's just what @CodeInChaos seemed to be implying.

Well what does 'register as an expert' mean exactly?

Even if he isn't a professional Go player, having Anders on the site is hugely awesome

Oh, yes, absolutely.
I'm just wondering what he means by that. It sounds as if they're putting a line in their info "I'm an expert."

10:38 AM
you can choose a proficiency level when commiting to an area51 site
(I guess you commited very early, so this might not have existed yet back then)

Yes, that feature didn't exist back when we had the first signup wave

Oh. Yes, I committed pretty a long time ago :)

I didn't see Anders Kierulf signing up, but at least he committed shortly before we hit beta
Almost all go players I met say they're weak.
One funny thing about area51 is that you can still uncommit after it hit 100%. Not sure if it can drop below 100% at that point though. At least it didn't drop when I uncommited, but perhaps my weight was just too low.

The chat box on the right is acting a bit strange. First it showed me and waffles as online with last post 2 mins ago.
A few minutes later we were offline, and the last post was mafu an hour ago
and now it's correct again
Some kind of load balancing+caching issue?

very likely, yes

Q: What does Kageyama mean by 'the stones go walking'?

magnetarI love the book Lessons in the Fundamentals of Go, but I have never understood chapter 3. Here's a bit of a refresher. Q: In general, how to deal (and not to deal) with losing sente?

magnetarGoing into gote after a stretch in sente I suddely feel a wave of panic. In general, what should I not be doing while I am panicking? For example, I tend to make moves that I think are kikashi. Because I am panicking, I end up wasting stones. What are the other pitfalls of gote? What should I abs...
