I just made it official too, I was hoping for signs of improvement, instead all we see is the good ones going.

The most annoying thing. Where else are people going to ask me questions about the implications of ritual cannibalism!?
sup @Green

@James sup!
@James I'm sure the Internet has a forum or two dedicated to this question.

It's the internet. Everything exists.

@James do you keep a list of all the project ideas you have but don't have the time to work on them?

3:03 PM
@Green Informally yeah. Its a disturbingly long list lol

@James I have at least 32 projects on my list.
Maybe I was independently wealthy, I'd be able to finish some of them.

Dare to dream hahahaha

@James one I have is to write a fictional constitution. The fascinating part of that project is that all constitutions are written within some context. Each document seems to be setup to solve some problem. The US constitution fights the tyrrany of monarchy. Other ones declare the official state religion.

@Green ...that would be fun
imaginary politics > real politics.

Don't we all? :D

3:15 PM
@James Building a post-monarchy constitution for this scenario would be lots of fun: worldbuilding.stackexchange.com/questions/28573/…

oooooh
damn you

@James AHHAHAHHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHHAHAH!!!!

you are the weirdest kind of evil.

I got you so good :D
You were going to do work today? Not anymore! :D!!!
I'm happy to collaborate on it with you.

@Green I mean...I was sorta planning to work. I am at home with a sick kid logged in remotely.

3:34 PM
@James let the collaboration begin.

3:58 PM
@James Google Doc shared.

@Green nice
ill take a look in a few.
I have a hunch we will need to define the scenario that led to the need for a constitution and goals...
Or are we just trying to create the most perfect non-situtationally dependent constitution ever?

4:33 PM
@James When is the Iowa caucus again? Is that this week(end)?

Monday night.
I am actually going to be a precinct captain for yang :D

I know.

I know but I am going to keep saying it because I am excited...and a little nauseous.

That's a tough opening to not follow up on

@AndyD273 take the bait. you know you want to

4:39 PM
Just trying to figure out if it should be a wide burn like "I feel that way about voting democrat too" or more focused "yeah, all those Bernie voters, ehh."

@AndyD273 What's wrong with a Bernie bro? They mostly vote Trump...
It's the Clinton voters that I can't stand.

@Hosch250 Except for the ones that want to take your land, but might not execute you.
Because executing people is bad for the soul

@AndyD273 Hehe, that's so funny.
I mean, there's so much land in the US that they could never hold it all.
Even if they got violent--just retreat until they kill each other.

4:49 PM
@Hosch250 Easy killer

Soviet Russia had a lot of land too... Just take a little at a time, and every time you get rid of the most rich people, that just exposes a new layer that is now the most rich.

True, I guess.

Not saying that it is Bernies plan. But these are the people running his campaign, and he wont fire or renounce them. Just like he won't renounce the extreme racism of Linda Sarsour, and lets her keep campaigning for him.
So he is either OK with it, or he knows that if he stands up and renounces them he won't have any supporters left.

Sounds like Trump, LOL.

Not at all. Trump has renouced racism lots of times
And racism in the country has gone way down while he has been in office.

4:56 PM
Possibly simply because older people haven't stopped dying?

Just like whenever a republican, like Shaun King for instance, comes out as a bigot they are stripped of power and shunned.
What?

Of course, there is plenty of non-skin-color racism now too.
Like, I'm seeing a lot of racism against anyone from Alabama/Georgia, for example.
About how only stupid people live down there.
Heck, even the Florida Man comments are a form of racism against Florida residents.

Floridian isn't a race, it's a state of mind

I mean, it's not exactly "racism" because they aren't a separate "race" of people--but blacks aren't a separate "race" either--it's like the difference between blond hair and brown hair.
And no, it's not a state of mind. It's a locality. You can't say some MN idiot is a Floridian.

Ok, I kinda understand the point you think you are trying to make, but the word you are using is very wrong
The word you're looking for might be classist

5:00 PM
OK.
But at the end of the day, it's the same mentality.

If there enough people here thinking about life after SE, we'd be happy to host you on TopAnswers. I'll keep a Factory Floor tab open for a while in case anyone wants to discuss how that might work.
3

Might be. So which group of people do you think are the most classist, making fun of people who come from those areas?

@AndyD273 That was my point. People who "fight racism" hardest are often extremely racist.
So just because "racism" the mindset in one form is going down, it's really not.
It's the same mindset, just a different representation of it.
@Jacksaystrytopanswers.xyz TopAnswers, Codidact, Reddit, which do I choose?

Also, "florida man" is something completely different, since most of the things that show up are also illegal, and criminals are generally really dumb
I don't think Reddit works the same way

i just created an account on codidact today.

5:05 PM
It's maybe too general for a QA site

Right. But just because Florida's records are the most accessible, so you can see it more easily than MN records, doesn't mean Floridians are dumber than Minnesotans.

they are working on building it out

Yes, Codidact is moving kind of slow. TopAnswers has a UI that looks like it was built in the 90s on a Commodore 64.

Could be... I'd like to see a real comparison, but I don't really think it's bigoted to make fun of bad people for doing bad things. It's a lot different than making fun of someone for something they can't help, like skin color

Right. But by talking about "Florida men" you are grouping good people in with the bad people. Just talk about "criminals" instead.

5:07 PM
You can't really choose your skin color, unless you start out pale and spend a lot of time in the sun. You can choose not to strip naked and ride the back of a bus.

I rest my case your honor.

@James Can I shoot it before I pull the knife?

Absolutely not

The comment doesn't say that, though.

@Hosch250 we genuinely welcome constructive crit btw — and are aware that the UI divides opinion. We've tried to do something slightly different from SE while keeping the core Q&A priority. The big plus (IMO, obvs) is that we are willing to adapt to each communities needs to a far greater degree that SE ever was (we have GCCC in beta and they are asking for quite a few 'tweaks')

5:10 PM
It just says whoever pulls the knife out gets to be king of Florida. Nothing about requiring the gator to be alive and unrestricted in the process.
@Jacksaystrytopanswers.xyz To start, you might want to tweak that dropdown where you pick the site.

Codidact vision. TopAnswers vision (@Jacksaystrytopanswers.xyz if that's not the right thing to link to, please let us know).

And you might want to move the chat to its own page, instead of having it on the home page.
Imagine if someone starts posting naughty messages in there at a quiet time of the day, and then people start seeing it?

@MonicaCellio hi! That's perfect, thanks

And, maybe I just don't want to see the chat at the same time I'm looking for something to answer.

@Hosch250 you can resize chat, which is a semi-hidden feature
@Hosch250 can happen in comments on SE too of course

5:13 PM
I want to see communities that aren't happy on SE find new homes. For some I think Codidact will be a better fit, and for some I think TopAnswers will be a better fit. Y'all should know that our teams are working together.

flags are the answer to everything

@Jacksaystrytopanswers.xyz Yes. Just a bit harder to control on chat, I think.
I kind of like how "meta" posts are just tagged meta and listed on the home page. It makes community decisions more visible to the core users.

@MonicaCellio on that note, I do think it's worth saying that any TA community that votes to move to Codidact once it is released will get all the support and help we can give them to move
3

I'm not sure I like seeing a full history of a question right on the home page. I'd rather see the first N characters instead of the history to see if I want to open it.

@Hosch250 do you mean the answer summaries?

5:15 PM
And I'd like to be able to sort the home page, like SE.

@Hosch250 yes that's a feature we need to add, and the header nav is a bit pants as you mention. We already have a reputation for very fast implementation of features and a meme about 6-8 days :)

@Jacksaystrytopanswers.xyz I love it! Which tech stack do you use.

@Hosch250 I'm a database guy so for me the important bit of the stack is postgres underneath, and a very strict transactional api written in postgres functions. On top of that is a relatively thin PHP layer

@MonicaCellio Which one do you think WB would be on? (given that Codidact doesn't seem to really exist in any meaningful way at the moment)

@Jacksaystrytopanswers.xyz thanks; I appreciate you making that explicit. And if a community that starts on Codidact decides they'd rather move to TopAnswers, we would likewise do all we can to help. (But TA -> Codidact is more likely than the reverse just because it already exists.)
Also, Writing is currently using a third thing, QPixel, which was a side project of one of the Codidact leads. We will move to Codidact when it's ready.

5:23 PM
@Jack I can't resize the Top Answers chat.
Do I need to be signed in?

@AndyD273 that's actually a hard call, and I'd rather the community look at both without my biasing things. The chat integration on TA seems attractive for WB. Codidact's plans for voting seem attractive. Codidact's categories might also be attractive for the sandbox and blog.

@Hosch250 yes, sorry —that's just one click though, no PII needed

Yep.

6:08 PM
@James Not possible. We'll need to define the scenario. It will at least require the death or removal of the existing king. It's your world, so you'll need to choose if this is an overthrow, end of the dynasty, or some benevolent king decides that monarchy ain't the best.

6:33 PM
Or a UK style: the King is still head of state but doesn't have any meaningful power.

I am thinking...just to make it challenging. We are talking about a bad king that led the kingdom into civil unrest, culminating in armed conflict along racial lines that overthrew the government.

7:24 PM
@Feeds Guess those clams and fish better watch out.
And rival gulls...

2 hours later…
9:30 PM
@Hosch250 Although if all the gulls are armed maybe the fish and clams will do pretty well and the gulls can wipe each other out.
