@Ranger My last company had people retire after working 40 years.
It was mostly people who'd been around since shortly after the company was founded doing things like accounting or travel agent.
The kind of thing where either you are going to do the same thing anyway even if you move, or there aren't that many jobs, and you might as well stay where you have good management and coworkers.

@AndyD273 Yeah, today's (or I guess yesterday's now) Schlock was pretty great.

@Gryphon-ReinstateMonica hard to believe that thing's been going for twenty years.

@MorrisTheCat And it's been consistently good for that entire time period. If you ever have a few days in which you don't need to do anything, I'd recommend going through the archive.

@Gryphon-ReinstateMonica oh, I have. More than once. I've actually been reading it ALMOST that long. I actually did some 3d modelling work for Howard waaaaaay back in book 3. That woulda been... 2002? ish?

@MorrisTheCat So one year after I was born. Now I feel really young.

yeah. Us old farts will have that effect on people.

9:15 PM
My god. I never realised Schlock Mercenary was older than me.

I think I'm mostly impressed that he hasn't missed a day in all that time. The high quality and consistently fun story is also a big thing.

You know what I love? When an answer to a question makes you think about implications you never thought of before. Not unpleasant implications that result in plotholes, but fun ones that might be worth exploring.
