3:49 PM
So, if anyone thinks Ben Shapiro is intelligent...

1 hour later…
4:50 PM
@Mephistopheles A. "over 100 years" So not fast, meaning there will be time to, say, build homes on stilts. B. Why cut off the rest of the argument? Maybe go for the clip where he finishes?

5:09 PM
@AndyD273 That turned out just fine with Venezia.

5:28 PM
Given enough time it wouldn't be all that hard to bring in fill to raise the level, especially over 100 years. One short clip, taken out of context, with important information removed, does not invalidate the argument, let alone allow for any judge of intelligence, or even wisdom.
3

@AndyD273 Moving inland seems a better choice than building houses on stilts.

@Bellerophon Or raising the land
It was just one possibility

@AndyD273 Easier said than done.

@Mephistopheles Have you seen what they've been doing in Dubai?

@AndyD273 We're talking about the guy who
@AndyD273 That's unfair, they've got all that sweet money from oil.

5:32 PM
@Mephistopheles And the US is poor?

@AndyD273 Yes, but actually no.

No, and actually no

@AndyD273 Poor in which areas?

I'm talking about the country, not individual neighborhoods

Building up land is only a short-term solution if sea level continues to rise. Eventually it will rise beyond the height you built. Plus raising one bit of land will slightly increase how fast the sea level rises although I'm not certain that it would be big enough magnitude to make a difference.

5:35 PM
Just saying that, in 100 years, it's not unreasonable to think that someone will come up with a fix for a problem, even if the worse case is a 10 foot rise. Solving problems is what humans do
Especially if they can earn money doing it

@AndyD273 I'm on Linux and I prefer not to generate any in the first place.

And I am skeptical about it getting anywhere close to that worse case scenario
@Mephistopheles But in your case Linux is the solution to the problem. "Other operating systems are buggy. This one isn't. I will use this one."

@AndyD273 You take that back before I unleash the gdm3 on you.

@Mephistopheles Take back that you are smart enough to pick an operating system that you feel is less buggy? Ok, I take it back.
To all that hear me, let it be known that I was wrong about @Mephistopheles being smart.
Or you could just take the compliment
Whichever, I don't care

@AndyD273 I have chosen it because of the freedomz and learning experience, not because it's polished.

5:41 PM
@Mephistopheles I didn't say polished

@AndyD273 10 ft does seem really high I thought the current IPCC forecasts if emissions stay constant were only predicting about 4 ft rise globally.

@AndyD273 To be fair, that speech was the lesser problem. The guy's a zionist and a borderline nazi.
As long as you replace Germany with Israel

@Mephistopheles Yeah, definitely taking back the part about you being smart.
@Bellerophon Sure, and 4 feet is a lot. But it's not insurmountable. And I'm honestly still skeptical about that worse case too.

@AndyD273 Didn't you see the article?

I don't care about what anyone said in 2002

5:47 PM

If you're going to look that far in the past to find things on people who you don't like, you might as well be a social justice warrior
Assuming that the article is actually true and in context in the first place, which considering the source I doubt

@AndyD273 You really think I do that on my own? Hell no. I leave them fight each other 'till the end of time....
And occasionally laugh on their idiocy.

Whatever dude. I'm not going to defend Ben. I don't know him, I have no control over him, and he doesn't need it. I think throwing the Nazi card is incredibly lazy. I think pulling up stuff from that long ago is short sighted. I think that trying to silence him is dumb, especially if you don't like him. I think that AOC is not a good person. And I want her to talk as much as possible, because then everyone else will have an opportunity to decide that too.

@AndyD273 Who's AOC?

A politician from NY with strong socialist/communist views

6:01 PM
Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (; Spanish: [oˈkasjo koɾˈtes]; born October 13, 1989), popularly known as AOC, is an American politician and activist who serves as the U.S. Representative for New York's 14th congressional district. The district includes the eastern part of the Bronx and portions of north-central Queens in New York City. She is a member of the Democratic Party. Ocasio-Cortez drew national recognition when she won the Democratic Party's primary election for New York's 14th congressional district on June 26, 2018. She defeated Democratic Caucus Chair Joe Crowley, a 10-term incumbent, in...
???

Yeah, her

Oh, I remember this one
@AndyD273 So, you want her to incriminate herself by saying before thinking?

@Mephistopheles I don't know if it matters if she thinks first or not. Her ideas are bad. She can think about them all she wants.

@AndyD273 Sargon of Applebees can testify that saying "I wouldn't even rape you " is the fastet route to political harakiri.

@Mephistopheles Yes, how dare he say he won't rape someone. The nerve (heavy sarcasm). Oh, wait, it was a joke? How dare he make fun of his elite superiors. He should know his place as a citizen of the UK, and not take on airs.

6:15 PM
@AndyD273 :Facts don't care about your feelings. Carl Benjamin joined a political party and killed it with his autism.

I don't think you know what you're talking about.

MM is the closet thing we have to a centrist force.

Sorry to hear that?

@AndyD273 Metokur is actually pretty fun. He's also the reason why everyone should hide their powerlevels.

"Mister Metokur (real name unknown but sometimes goes by “Jim” and was formerly known as the “The Internet Aristocrat”) is a Youtuber/internet personality who focuses on chronicling and mocking the most bizarre, and downright insane individuals, movements, fandoms and general drama on the Internet." If that's the closest you have to a centrist... Well, I can make some recommendations.
Not saying that he's not a good person. I don't know anything about him
But if you like that, I'm surprised you don't like Sargon

6:23 PM
@AndyD273 He's Shapiro, but with even less intelligence. I mean, he made Count Dankula facepalm...
... a person I actually sympathize with

@Mephistopheles context of reported facepalm?
You know those two are good friends, and Sargon has defended him a lot?

That's a laugh. And is what he said wrong?

@AndyD273, I wouldn't even rape you. See how well a conversation goes when you don't feel the need to remain civil.

@Mephistopheles Did that video go into what she said that prompted that response?

6:30 PM
@AndyD273 Lemme check.

You have to take context into account.

@AndyD273 She laughed at male suicide. The appropriate response: "You're doing awfully well, for someone whose life is an extended cut of Final Destination"
Jessica Rose Phillips (née Trainor; born 9 October 1981) is a British Labour Party politician who has been the Member of Parliament for Birmingham Yardley since 2015. == Early life and career == The youngest of four children, Phillips is the daughter of Stewart Trainor, a teacher, and Jean Trainor (née Mackay), who was deputy chief executive of the NHS Confederation and chair of South Birmingham Mental Health Trust. They were politically active: "Growing up with my father was like growing up with Jeremy Corbyn" she told Rachel Cooke of The Observer in March 2016. Phillips went to King Edward VI...

So she said a dumb thing. He responded with a dumb joke, about not doing something horrible to her. The reporter asked about the dumb joke, he replied that he thinks gender equality is important, and that women should be treated like men, including having dumb jokes told at their expense, and Dankula laughed.
But again, I'm not going to defend Sargon. Not my job. I don't care that you don't like him. I think he's entertaining, and he sometimes makes some interesting points.
But if you want to borrow my magnifying glass, go ahead. I'll make nitpicking a lot easier.

6:46 PM
@AndyD273 "You act like a bunch of white niggers" -Sargon to some alt-righters

@Mephistopheles And?

@AndyD273 He doesn't have the N-word pass

Do you?
That's the clip that was taken out of context to get him kicked off of patreon. I know about it
Are you sure your not a leftist?

@AndyD273 AM I THE ONLY ONE WITH STANDARDS?!

I can't tell what they are
I honestly can't. you say edgy things that make it sound like you're alt-right
But you also seem to endorse the alt-left cancel culture

6:51 PM
@AndyD273 Oh, it's simple really: " Don't demean a person, try to reason with them, if it fails, let them make an ass of themselves"

There's that alt-right far-left thing again... weird

@AndyD273 I didn't sign up for either, I picked and choosed what aligned with my values.

Don't demean a person. goes on to demean Ben Shapero

@AndyD273 That's his fault. I didn't make him say the zionist crap.

Blames others for inconsistency in values... interesting.

7:00 PM
@Mephistopheles What's a kike? Not come across that word before.

@Bellerophon Demeaning word for Jews.

@Bellerophon derogatory term for jew.

Ok. Thanks.
@Mephistopheles Probably best not to use that kind of language in chat

@AndyD273 I'm not inconsistent! He said that stupid sht and now I'm burying him in it, equivalent exchange, baby!

Sees faults in others, but blind to the same faults in self... Hmmm...

7:03 PM
Good morning, Dubyabeers.

Also, if he did change over time, I want to hear an apology that its mean to destroy the infrastructure and kill civilians, further destabilizing the region, leading to more bloodshed.

Or afternoon. Shoot, where has the day gone?

@Ranger Evening here.

@Ranger Does seem to be flying by a bit... Which is nice

@AndyD273 I suppose so. Now to only have less work to get done during these shorter hours...

7:07 PM
brb

7:27 PM
hola

@James Hola amigo. Como estas?

Eh not bad, you?

Mas o menos.

7:55 PM
@Ranger So I had a weird annoying session last week.
I built this sweet boss battle.
Then the cleric cast Contagion and completely destroyed it...

@James Hmm, maybe next time have a necromancer cast raise undead on it?
Then they'd have to fight your boss, and also a necromancer

I set up the battle so that basically the four of them were fighting this one dude in an "arena" but the arena was a big circle of the boss' men with spears pointing inward. So if they got to close to the wall they'd get poked. The boss had sweet attacks and legendary actions. But the spell made it so that if he was hit with an attack he was stunned until the end of his next turn
He was going to shield bash people into the spike wall.
I also included prisoners chained up at intervals around the circle so they couldn't just nuke the entire area (which they really like to do)
Basically they completely took him out of the battle
I think I will be having to include casters that can use counterspell in the future.

8:14 PM
Why? The second wasn't even (used as) a racial slur. Can't I pay an homage to Terry A. Davies?

8:26 PM
@Mephistopheles I suspect that it is due to the use of a particular word (you know which I mean) which I'm pretty sure breaches the SE code of conduct.

@AndyD273 Oh, really? Since what do I and him have in common?

8:54 PM
@Mephistopheles Jess Phillips said something stupid and offensive, trivializing the pain of others, and Sargon called her out in an equivalent exchange.

@Mephistopheles "Zionist and borderline Nazi"... there appears to be a bit of an inherent contradiction here (and also the guy has criticized Israel for a number of things).
If thinking that Israel should exist makes him a zionist, then I guess I'm also a zionist. It's basically the only country in the region that has a functional democracy and is on "our side".

@Gryphon-ReinstateMonica I'd doubt that

9:09 PM
@Mephistopheles Which bit of it? The functional democracy, or the bit about it being on our side?

@Gryphon-ReinstateMonica Both?

@Mephistopheles Umm, I'm pretty sure that at least the democracy bit is objective. The other one is more subjective, but unless you're going to bring up a friendly fire incident involving a boat 50+ years ago, I'm pretty sure you've got no evidence.
They clearly have a democracy, unless you're suggesting that it's rigged or something?
Which you have no evidence for.

@Gryphon-ReinstateMonica What if I wanted to boycott them (and I was living in the United States of societal breakdown)

@Mephistopheles Then you'd boycott them. That's up to you.

@Bellerophon You stepped into a trap card

9:15 PM
@Mephistopheles You are a free human with the ability to do that.
I'd argue that you'd need to have some... interesting... logical processes to justify boycotting them and not, say, China, Iran, and a bunch of other countries.

Boycotts of Israel are a political tactic of avoiding economic, political and cultural ties with the State of Israel, with individual Israelis or with Israeli-based companies or organizations. Boycott campaigns are used by those who oppose Israel's existence, or oppose Israel's policies or actions over the course of the Arab–Israeli conflict, in order to object to Israeli policies in general, or its economy or military in particular. Boycott campaigns within the Arab world began before Israel became an independent state and continued through the Arab League boycott of Israel. The most prominent...

@Mephistopheles Still waiting for your point?

While I don't agree with not being able to boycott, I'm with Gryphon in not seeing how this either makes them not a "functioning democracy" or "on [the US's] side."
Am I missing something in your argument?

Logic mostly

@Gryphon-ReinstateMonica "How many made in china signs have you seen in your life?" "I dunno, how many loafs of bread have you eaten in your life?"

9:22 PM
@Mephistopheles So your boycotts are based on convenience?

@Mephistopheles I'm not sure what you're saying. At all. Is this supposed to somehow justify boycotting Israel but not actual dictatorships that have killed hundreds of millions of their own people?

I'm still a little lost on the central points of your argument @Mephistopheles.

@Bellerophon What powers my laptop? A hint: not the Holy Ghost

@Mephistopheles Electricity. Still not seeing your point.

@Gryphon-ReinstateMonica A battery.

9:23 PM
Is any of this supposed to convince me Israel is a worse country than China?

...I'm going to be honest, Mephistopheles, you're making so little sense I swear that you're just trolling us at this point.

@Gryphon-ReinstateMonica No?

@Mephistopheles Then what exactly are you arguing for here?

What the crap are you guys talking about?

@James I am arguing that Israel has a right to exist. I'm not sure what Meph is talking about anymore.

9:25 PM
lol

@James I think it's vague anti-Isreal (the country, not the people... I think) dialogue from Mephist, but he hasn't stated enough of an argument to counter or discuss, and yet here we are trying to discuss it.

When arguing one generally has to present an argument, rather than making random senseless statements.

Israel has a right to exist, but their behavior on a national political level drives me crazy and I'd be threatening a reduction in carrots were it up to me.

@James A reduction in carrots?

@Gryphon-ReinstateMonica Sick and carrot, I assume. A reduction in nice things the US does for them.

9:27 PM
@Ranger Ah, that makes sense now.

The US provides them with significant economic and military aid.

@James Yeah, this is more or less my viewpoint. I'm for the people's right to be an independent governing body, but that doesn't mean I approve of their current leadership or their current leadership's choices.

@James Yeah, I'm aware of that. What behaviour specifically do you object to?

I guess I can say the exact same thing about the US?

An argument could be made that their behavior is borderline genocidal. I am not saying they are rounding up and killing people but taking peoples homes and leaving them landless basically kills them no?
@Ranger You could. Though the US has been in the spotlight for 70 years and many of them are no win scenarios. Some situations have obviously been our own doing...the latest and greatest with the Kurds being a prime example.

9:30 PM
@James I mean, Turkey did back off after Trump threatened economic sanctions (not that that was covered in the press at all).

I won't lie..it also bugs me that there is this unassailable reverence that many expect for Israel...I am not particularly comfortable with that.
@Gryphon-ReinstateMonica That was covered plenty from what I saw. Thing being he allowed it to happen in the first place.

@Gryphon-ReinstateMonica It got about the same amount of coverage in the press here.

If he had said no. Erdogan would have flinched, attacking US troops...even he's not that ballsy.

@James It happens to be the best country in the region by a wide margin, which is probably part of the reason it's held in very high regard.
@Bellerophon Hmm, might just have been the Canadian press that I never heard mention it then.

@Gryphon-ReinstateMonica Fair, and I would agree. But calling people Nazi's and traitors because they question actions the nation takes is stupid.

9:33 PM
@James *Nazis. :(

dangit.

@James That is clearly not an OK thing (and I don't think that's a mainstream thing).

@Gryphon-ReinstateMonica It's pretty common in the US particularly in congress. You question Israel and somehow you are branded an anti-semite.
Which may or may not be true. Its alot like the left calling people bigots when they don't just nod and smile in agreement with whatever the topic of the day is.

So, when you say left and communist keep this in mind:
The House Un-American Activities Committee (HUAC) or House Committee on Un-American Activities (HCUA), from 1969 House Committee on Internal Security, was an investigative committee of the United States House of Representatives. The HUAC was created in 1938 to investigate alleged disloyalty and subversive activities on the part of private citizens, public employees, and those organizations suspected of having Communist ties. When the House abolished the committee in 1975, its functions were transferred to the House Judiciary Committee. The committee's anti-communist investigations are often compared...

@James If you are saying things like "Israel hypnotizes the world", or "US support for israel is all about the benjamins", that's playing into some anti-semitic tropes pretty intensively.

9:35 PM
I'm a dog. I love digging up dirt

@Mephistopheles See now that is a real life witch hunt.

@James I thought it was pod racing :(

@Mephistopheles I would suspect nobody in this room was alive in 1969. It's not like this is recent history.

@Gryphon-ReinstateMonica History repeats itself.
with some pseudo-random number generation, of course

@Mephistopheles I mean, one of the top 4 presidential nominees is an actual communist, so I don't think the US is in much danger of the return of Joseph McCarthy.
(and if it is, I live in Canada, so I'll be fine ;)

9:39 PM
@Gryphon-ReinstateMonica What about the ADL and PewDiePie?

@Gryphon-ReinstateMonica If you don't think communists have figurative witch hunts I have bad news (or good depending on your perspective) for you.

@Gryphon-ReinstateMonica Are you referring to Bernie?

@James Everyone does it, that's why we need to put all of them in summer camps and replace them with an AI

@James That's the return of Josef Stalin though, not the return of Joseph McCarthy. The outcome is the same, but the process is slightly different.
@Ranger Yes, admittedly with some hyperbole.

@James I mean, you can say this, and you're right, but many political groups get witch hunts created around them. Everything from commies to MAGAs have hate camps.

9:41 PM
@Gryphon-ReinstateMonica Nah, just the rhetoric and receiver of blame are different.

@James I'd argue that rhetoric is part of process, but that's getting pretty hard into semantics.

@Gryphon-ReinstateMonica Semantics is like 27% of what we do here :)

@James Oh come on, it's at least 28%.

I wish I could star an exchange...

I'd be willing to go as high as 32%, but it depends on the day.

9:44 PM
So, off-topic but who are the "Gamers"?

@Mephistopheles Depends on the context.

@Ranger political

@Mephistopheles I don't get the question.

In general, I'd say a PC or console gamer who game enough to make it their hobby. Not that mobile gaming isn't gaming, but that's normally not the population that the term attempts to capture. Normally when it's used it's referring to men, not women--see previous note.

Q: What reason do I select in order to vote to close poorly written questions?

overlord - Reinstate MonicaEvery once in a while I will come across a question that is just so poorly written that I don't think it could be saved by providing critiques and giving the asker a chance to fix it. The most common examples of this are the questions that make completely baseless and incorrect assumptions about ...

9:45 PM
@James lowballer. Semantics is at least 55.3% of what we do here.

@Green You're confusing semantics with weed discussions.

@Ranger You can just star ever message in it.

By which I obviously mean "getting into the weeds" not the smoking kind.

@Gryphon-ReinstateMonica I could, I guess in reverse order?

(Gimme all the stars)
2

9:46 PM
@Gryphon-ReinstateMonica All your stars are belong to us.

@James I'm not even a smoker, but I thought you were talking about that.
@Gryphon-ReinstateMonica There's one. Don't get greedy.

@James eh, fair. I suppose arguing over the meaning of words is different than arguing about the mechanics of some system.
I suppose.

@Mephistopheles Did my definition help clarify whatever you were looking into?

Is it true that the Joker is the patron saint of Incels?

@Green Hello. I'm from the redundancy department of redundancy. We have a message for you.

9:48 PM
@Green So is this semantics or definitions right now? I'm confused.

@Ranger not really...

@James if it's not turtles all the way down, I don't wanna hear it.

@Green lol
I have a lot more free time to do actual work when I don't moderate WB by the way.
It's weird.

@James Ha!

Though the 11 flags in queue right now are killing me.
I am really OCD about unread email/unclosed notifications on my phone etc...seeing the little "hey there's stuff to do" notification drives me crazy.

9:54 PM
So, if you're wondering why am I so erratic when it comes to arguing, it's because I isolated myself from political news, figured it'd be bad for my mental health and focus.

@Mephistopheles I want to get shirts made on this topic.

@James ?

@Mephistopheles What did you need help with? Was my definition not clear, or it didn't help in the context?

Not sure exactly but some clever way of saying "don't talk to me about politics, something about going Mr Hyde/Hulk etc" I dunno exactly.

@Ranger I was looking for the version with the "we live in a society" and "gamers, rise up"

9:59 PM
@Mephistopheles I think you're more looking for the term "incel," or that's the name/term I hear associated with those phrases.

@Ranger Thanks. There was another question, about incels.
12 mins ago, by Mephistopheles
Is it true that the Joker is the patron saint of Incels?

Which there's a lot of overlap on with "gamers" from "incel" (but not the other way around), but they're not describing the same group.

So, I found why I hated Israel so much
Olive trees are a major agricultural crop in the Palestinian territories, where they are mostly grown for olive oil production. It has been estimated that olive production accounted for 57% of cultivated land in the Palestinian territories with 7.8 million fruit-bearing olive trees in 2011. In 2014, an estimated 108,000 tonnes of olives were pressed producing 24,700 tonnes of olive oil – which contributed US $10.9 million in added value to the crop. Around 100,000 households rely on olives for their primary income.The olive tree is seen by many Palestinians as being a symbol of nationality and...
Thanks, Vikman
You opened up my eyes, so I can now see the true enemy

@James And... actually this is me. I avoid 99% of political discussions because it's one of the three main things that get me really mad. I'm generally very easy going and whatever, but politics just gets under my skin real bad.

@Ranger So, this conversation is as painful as CBT to you?

10:07 PM
@Mephistopheles Eh?

@Ranger Nevermind, just a meme

My memesense has failed me.
