@Secret I have an idea. We should set up a sort of coliseum and have Antifa vs Proud Boys fight to the death. The survivors get thrown in prison.

@23fc9a62-56de-47fb-97b4-737890 Why? One side came in, walked around for a few minutes, and then left and went to a BBQ picnic. The other side then showed up and started beating random uninvolved people that were walking around minding their own business

@AndyD273 Oh, I didn't read the news. Just thought it was the typical clash.
Anyway, I found this article: apps.dtic.mil/dtic/tr/fulltext/u2/839416.pdf

At worst you could call it a PR stunt, where the PB show up, don't do anything, and that gets antifa to come out and wreck the place. I don't know a whole lot about the proud boys, but from what I can tell they never initiate.
@23fc9a62-56de-47fb-97b4-737890 So basically a high temperature replacement for hydraulic fluid?
@23fc9a62-56de-47fb-97b4-737890 if you want any actual news on it:

1:39 PM
@23fc9a62-56de-47fb-97b4-737890 Also, hmm, so sodium and potassium both react violently with water... I wonder if the combination stabilizes it any, or if a hydraulic leak could lead to an exothermic explosion...

1:50 PM
apparently the answer is yes, it still reacts violently

2:16 PM
@Feeds I'm going to tweet this at every single person running for president.
@HDE226868 Did you figure out teleportation yet?

2 hours later…
3:47 PM
@James No, but if you give me some funding I might.
That would be an amazing community project, to be honest - kinda like how other sites have solved open problems in math or science. Worldbuilding solves the open of problem of how to teleport people. . .

I was thinking about that...
If you take people apart atom by atom, you can store the information somehow, beam it to somewhere else, and 3d print them.
Of course, you can then 3d print multiple versions.
The tricky part is taking them apart layer by layer and having good data.
Because of the pain and death involved after certain points :P

4:04 PM
@23fc9a62-56de-47fb-97b4-737890 I think the trick there is speed. If it happens fast enough, the nerves won't have time to register pain.

So rather than teleportation we are really talking disintegration and remaking.

@James Technically the same thing :D

Personally, I'm looking for funding to research either macrosize wormholes or how to edit the position data for an object in the simulation. The idea of having to die every time I want to commute to work isn't exactly what I want

@23fc9a62-56de-47fb-97b4-737890 one moves a thing, the other destroys and remakes it...the outcome may be similar but the method is waaaaay different.

@James In other words, airliners are experts at teleportation?

4:10 PM
@23fc9a62-56de-47fb-97b4-737890 No, because they go through all the trouble of visiting every point in between two points

@23fc9a62-56de-47fb-97b4-737890 Currently, I suppose that is true
@AndyD273 True. its not really teleportation.

@AndyD273 Continuous teleportation.

If you can figure out macro wormholes, you can essentially create simulated FTL travel, where something is at point A, then A and B, then B, without going through the space in between.
Huh, so I just looked up the dictionary definition of teleportation, and according to them it is "to transport something by telekinesis"... that seems like a very weird definition

@AndyD273 ...that seems completely wrong.

Further down the page they have the right definition, but the first one is just so off.
@James There are days when I feel like dying when I go to work, but a cup of coffee usually fixes that problem.

4:32 PM
@AndyD273 Yeah, coffee is the closest we come to magic in real life.

@23fc9a62-56de-47fb-97b4-737890 Yeah, not a huge fan of that bit.

@HDE226868 I dunno...I'd be willing to deal with quite a bit of pain if I could move from here to Europe in 15 minutes instead of getting on a flight and dealing with all that entails...

5:07 PM
If you don't want to have to be broken apart and remade we could destroy the earth and remake it rotated round so that you are in the right place.

@Bellerophon That's basically what trains do, right?

5:50 PM
@HDE226868 lol
I feel like the disintegrate-remake method requires some form of stasis, so that there are no inflight processes getting all garbled and messed up.

6:09 PM
@James You'd have to have some kind of singularity type event, to digitize the mind and avoid interrupting stream of consciousness.
And that might be the way to do it; synthetic bodies you transfer your mind into somewhere else in the world. Kind of a Ghost in the Shell future.

@AndyD273 that'd be pretty sweet...

It's not teleportation per se, but it starts to get close. Actually I guess it's more of an Altered Carbon future...

1 hour later…
7:28 PM
@AndyD273 I'd go digital if that were a thing...

@James I was talking to middle child last night, and she said she'd like to go multiple (one mind, many bodies) so she can go swimming and watch tv at the same time. I asked her how many bodies she'd need to get her room clean; "one thousand"
I think I'd try out Neurolink at some point in the future. Maybe V3 or V4...

@AndyD273 Yeah. Its true of all technology, stay away from the first 1 or 2 versions.

Especially if it involves having a robot put lots of super fine wires into your brain
