12:45 PM
Well, it's morning again.

1:24 PM
Been reading Surely you're joking, Mr Feynman.
It's pretty funny.
He didn't believe in psychiatry, and was screwing with them, and got a D (Deficient) in mental health.
For example: Do you feel anyone in this room is looking at you.
> Probably
(It was a largish room, with several guys getting evaluated to get into the army.)
So, the guy tells him to look around, and he finds two guys looking his way.
He gets really dramatic pointing them out, and gets the attention of the whole room, and tells the guy "they're all looking at me!"
The guy doesn't even look up from the form he's filling out and marks it that he imagines that people are staring at him.
He tells him about the two times he heard imaginary voices (professors with distinctive voices, as he was reviewing class content while falling asleep), and gets that marked against him.
After he's rejected, he figures someone will realize he's not mentally deficient but was screwing with them since he'd already worked on the bomb (this was after the war).
So he writes a letter telling them "You know, I was evaluated to be insane, but I'm insane enough to think that evaluation shouldn't be taken into account," and gets rejected.

1:50 PM
I think I have that one in my reading queue

I've been feeding myself a wildly varied selection recently.
The grim "With the Old Breed", the silly Terry Pratchet, and now the humorous "Surely you're joking, Mr Feynman".

2:08 PM
Terry Pratchett is one of my go-to palate cleansers, when I feel like the other stuff I'm reading is just too heavy. I'm stalled out on another book... Probably need to binge a few, see if I can get it kick started again.

2:44 PM
@AndyD273 Regretfully so.

@NexTerren Why? I love mornings.
It's just work that I don't care for as much.

@Hosch250 "I don't mind the punch, just the pain and bruising that comes with it."

LOL.
No, really, mornings are nice. I like being awake. Sleep seems such a waste.

3:21 PM
i'd be all for removing sleep from the equation

Talking about equations, MN is trying to kill the poor people off and make the middle class poor.
They're trying to ram a massive gas tax through.
Which will spike grocery costs as well as transportation costs.

Haven't they seen what that did to France?

And they are trying to increase registration taxes on gasoline vehicles.
@AndyD273 Yes, they have. That's the whole point. Of course they don't admit it...

I believe they are on week 24 or 25 of protests

The ruling class must have everything, you know. In the name of benefiting the workers.

3:28 PM
Guess that's what you get when your congress person is one of the fresh new faces behind the green leap forward... Tax gas, because we only have 12 years to live.

Maybe they have only 12 years to live, but I plan on living a lot more than 12 more years.
You know how they talk about banning private transportation?
If they ever do that, I'll tweet "I'll be ready with my gun when you come for my bicycle."
Which will be really ironic, since bicycles are supposedly green ;)

Supposedly California's government is starting a probe into why their gas prices are the highest in the US.

LOL, how dumb can that state be?
People talk about Florida Man, but man, it's California is the worst.

@NexTerren I wonder if they'll accept "Because you have idiots writing the laws?"

The non-cynic in me says that someone is trying to bring to light the laws/taxes that affect prices, and this is a formal way of going about that.
At least I hope that's what it is.

3:41 PM
I approve of that
I also enjoy the movements to try to split california up, because the farmers are tired of the cities telling them what they can and can't do with their water, among other things.
The big cities are so big it's almost taxation without representation for anyone who doesn't live in one.

4:08 PM
Not suggesting a redraw, but to your point to visualize the population distribution, and how many 'states' would have to make up California.

6, plus significant parts of two others.

Can they redraw the lines a little? I'd rather be in the state of Grand Rapids than the state of Detroit... Whats the population they are aiming for? I see it says equal population, but not what that population is

@AndyD273 Current population / 50?
@AndyD273 It's just a name, and those aren't fixed, anyway.

4:30 PM
I can't find an "author's comments", @AndyD273, but the Reddit thread calculated 6.5 mil per state. reddit.com/r/MapPorn/comments/8si107/…

so 327.2 million/50 = 6,544,000 per state.
New York City Population = 8.623 million
heh
I kinda wish I could zoom in on that area
The state names are fun though

New York Metro is 13.3 mil.
Maybe they could take that greater area and divide it geographically?
Split N/S it'd still be a touch over for both but it'd be pretty close to 6.5 mil

@NexTerren It looks like there are several states in that area; Newark, New York, Throgs Neck. That's why I wish I could zoom in

4:55 PM
@AndyD273 On that thread if you scroll down there's an HD version
