Also, do we need the tag when we have and no ?
Seems oddly specific

@Zxyrra welcome to the 21sr century

6:29 AM
@dot_Sp0T ... I've been here for quite a while, thanks.

@Zxyrra Tags emerge organically as needs are seen by individual users. If there's been no questions that anyone thinks need to get tagged [male] then there shouldn't be such a tag just because there's a [female] tag.
Tagging gets curated when problems occur, not in anticipation of some future need or future problem.

I hope no one minds if I pin the election post

@JourneymanGeek i do

WHYYYYYYY

10:15 AM
Or VTC it, as you like....
And good morning/evening/afternoon/second breakfast to all.

11:12 AM
@JoeBloggs - thanks for the implicit approval of my world-building question. It's appreciated.

11:31 AM
@Pᴇᴛᴇ: It seems like a perfectly valid question to me. Is it possible to make a human habitable planet in 1000 years, yes/no.

@Pᴇᴛᴇ tell me when your question is elligible for bounties

@dot_Sp0T - when it doesn't get many good answers after a few days....

hey there @Zxyrra

@Shalvenay hola

@Zxyrra how're things going?
also, hey there @PatJ

Hey hey hey!

what's up?

Just got back from work, you?

5:23 PM
@PatJ chillin' on a day off. wondering if you have any suggestions as to tooling for terrain gen and/or map making/tracking though

@Shalvenay Sorry don't have much. My main suggestion would be "use existing maps and tweak them to your needs".

ah. I want to snap out of my rut of RL-copycat(mostly North American) terrains in my worldbuilding

Morning peoples

hey there @James

Heya Shal
@Shalvenay Have you check out the cartographers guild site?

5:30 PM
@James Good morning tribute.

@James I believe I poked my head that way once, but haven't been there in a while. mind linking it to me?

Careful its a rabbit hole of cool stuff.
I've gotten lost in the content on the cartographers guild site...which is somewhat ironic I suppose.

5:53 PM
haha
one thing I've noted is that they are relatively focused on individual maps, and not the more...integrated approach I want to go for

@Shalvenay give me a run down of what you are trying to do and I will see if I can help.
After I get back from lunch...
:D

@James alright -- basically, I'm working on a very promising candidate for a "standing" RPG campaign world I can keep on hand and pull out whenever I want to set campaigns in it
I have quite a bit of the note-taking done, but still need a land to work with if you will. I'm sticking to a single island for now in terms of actual mapping, though -- this is to keep things relatively self-contained for campaign purposes
what I'd like to have is something that's not just a disjoint set of maps, but has matching scale to it -- all the maps you get are nicely meshed together and nothing's too big or too small
it seems to me that that's more the province of a GIS tool than the disjoint approaches that the CG seems to favor for quite a bit of their stuff

A: Sandbox for Proposed Questions

Joe BloggsOne I've been kicking around in my head (after watching Kung-Fu Panda...) but can't seem to formulate correctly.. What causes 'Legendary warriors' to not be overpowered on the world stage? We've all heard the stories. The unbelievably chaste Sir Prancealot having the strength of ten men. The ...

6:27 PM
however, to do such a thing, I need base terrain, in a digital form. my own efforts at terrain and hydrology have been clunky at best, and I am trying not to copycat any particular RL area here, hence why I want a good approach to randomized/algorithmic terrain and hydrology

6:38 PM
I don't know much about hydrology, but random terrain is usually made with some sort of Perlin noise.

yeah -- Jasper's blog posts mentioned using it for medium-grain terrain features

1 hour later…
7:49 PM
@Shalvenay Sounds like what you want to do is a bit beyond me. I am not familiar/proficient with tools to create/randomize map making, though I do have a system I use to create free-hand maps.

8:24 PM
@Shalvenay considered worldbuilder?

@DubberRucky hrm, link to the tool?

*I meant world machine
link to a tutorial that worked for me youtube.com/watch?v=5fmRKwdDdyM
basic edition download link world-machine.com/download.php
@Shalvenay thereare plenty more tutorials but it's a nice start if you want t go in relative depth (if I recall)

8:42 PM
Is world machine free?
...because I don't already waste enough time

It's free.. .enough?
Theres a cost free version that was good enough for me.

...crap I was hoping you'd tell me it was really expensive.

I mean, the most expensive version is $1500
Happy now? I mean, you can probably waste your money faster by burning it or buying apple products.

@DubberRucky I would never buy apple products
@Green Get over here.

@james they just wurk

8:55 PM
( in scorpion's voice )

9:06 PM
So, the new semester started, I'll likely not be online that much anymore the next 3-4 months; wish you all the best and Ad Astra!

@dot_Sp0T May you learn a lot, during your next semester, and have a good time!

9:41 PM
@dot_Sp0T Awwww...

9:56 PM
@James Re worldbuilding.stackexchange.com/q/71650/627: I don't think you can change your close reason. You can remove your duplicate vote, but you wouldn't be able to vtc again.

@HDE226868 Hrmm...
thanks for letting me know

10:32 PM
@James Guess a MOD should know that. starting screechy noises and music full of doubt

@PatJ Buuuuuuuuuurn
Its hot in here
:p

I'm just a drama addict. Why is there never any drama?

@PatJ I squash it

@James sob Whyyyyyyy?

@PatJ Mainly to spite you.
:D

10:36 PM
@James NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
Aaaah, feeling better already. Thank you for the fix.

Bwahahahaha, I don't need mod powers to support the expansion of my evil empire.

:-D
