Q: More stats on stackexchange?

celtschkOn the right side of the main site there's a box: However when clicking the "stack exchange" link, I don't get to a statistics page about Worldbuilding, but to the list of sites, which makes no sense to me (it certainly doesn't contain any statistics about this site). I remember that in the pa...

@MichaelKjörling, I'm really enjoying that abstract language/evolution question. Thank you for posting it.

@bilbo_pingouin Today, American football teams played in London. I can only imagine Cleese's reaction.

The early morning rays bathed Eril in light. Dal, not much more than a sliver now, stood faintly in the sky as Mel sank to the west… Continue reading on Medium »

@HDE226868 he was probably too busy to cry or laugh about yesterday's rugby game to actually notice ;)

@bilbo_pingouin Don't remind me. . . I'm suddenly a fan of English rugby.

@HDE226868 Wales, Scotland and Ireland are still on... :)

That's good.

Where's the line between worldbuilding and plotbuilding? Examples that seem more like plot-generation to me (but have no close votes): worldbuilding.stackexchange.com/q/26927/28, worldbuilding.stackexchange.com/q/26918/28, worldbuilding.stackexchange.com/q/26794/28, and maybe worldbuilding.stackexchange.com/q/26791/28.

@MonicaCellio I haven't been doing much on WB this past week or so, so I missed a bunch of questions. I'll take a look.
My instincts:
1) is off-topic. It's really the actions of an individual entity, even if that entity isn't a person.
2) could be off-topic. It's another damn "How do I make X work in a world" questions, like the ones I sometimes used to ask. I now kind of dislike those, and I'm not sure whether or not I think we should have them. It's also the action of an entity, so I think it's off-topic, some to think of it.
3) is absolutely off-topic. It's about an individual's actions.
4) is puzzling. I want to say that it's okay, but something's nagging at me about it.
For 3):
I'm voting to close this question as off-topic because it's about the actions of an individual character, which are explicitly off-topic on Worldbuilding. — HDE 226868 20 secs ago
For 2):
I'm voting to close this question as off-topic because it's asking about the actions of an entity, in this case the people of Earth. The actions of an individual being are considered off-topic on Worldbuilding; I think that the same logic applies here to classify this question as off-topic. — HDE 226868 10 secs ago

@HDE226868 thanks, for this and for your analysis. I don't want to mod-hammer things; I want the community to act. This also happens enough that it feels like we need to have a conversation about boundaries, hence bringing it up in here for now. (Should go to meta later probably, but I'm starting with chat.)

For 1), I used a variant of the reason for 2):
I'm voting to close this question as off-topic because it's asking about the actions of an entity, in this case the authorities. The actions of an individual being are considered off-topic on Worldbuilding; I think that the same logic applies here to classify this question as off-topic. — HDE 226868 26 secs ago
@MonicaCellio No problem.
I think I'll leave 4) alone.

@HDE226868 whoa. Had not yet seen that.

That got my close vote and a down vote.
I have to say, I like exactly 3/15 Newest Questions.
I also realized that I'll get the Yearling badge in about 35 minutes. Cool.

Nice! There was a flurry a couple weeks ago corresponding to the start of private beta, so it makes sense that the early-public-beta cluster would be coming soon. Congrats!
Almost 20k in a year (you and several others) -- quite impressive!

@MonicaCellio Thanks. I think we're in the middle of that flurry.
@MonicaCellio Worldbuilding a high-voting site, that's for sure.

@HDE226868 yup, looks like 20 in the last day (so far).
@HDE226868 compared to many others, yes.

@MonicaCellio Where's this?

Ah yeah
Mine doesn't come until mid-late October
WB already had mods when I got here

Looks like the first mods were appointed on Oct 22 last year. I vaguely recalled it being a few weeks into public beta. (On some sites mods have gotten chosen while still in private beta, which seems over-limited to me.)

@MonicaCellio can you timeline this post and find out what deleted it, please?

9:00 PM
@ArtOfCode That was in the Low Quality queue.
It was your review, actually.

@HDE226868 Aye, and I cast a delete vote on it from there. It might be auto-deletion, but the text just says "deleted X ago", without users or reasons.

@ArtOfCode yeah, that was deleted from review. They don't show the names of the six voters in that case because (I asked about this once) that includes "recommend deletion" votes and naming people who don't have the VtD privilege would confuse people. Why it doesn't instead attribute the deletion to Community (like for spam/offensive), I don't know. But yes, you helped.
Can you see this review task?

@MonicaCellio Hm. Odd, I had expected it to show "deleted by ArtOfCode, Community ♦ X ago".
@MonicaCellio Aye, so it did.

@ArtOfCode yeah, now that you mention it... since you actually have a delete vote, it's not unreasonable to expect it to be attributed. You could try asking about it on Meta.SE if you like.

@MonicaCellio It's a strange case. It was on 1 vote when I got the review, which left me with a Recommend Deletion button. I went and downvoted, post on 0, reloaded the review, and had the Delete button. I think posts usually have to be on -1 to VTD, so shrug - I don't know whether it's reasonable to attribute that or not.

9:13 PM
@ArtOfCode oh, interesting. Yes, in the usual case where you click on the "delete" link, an answer has to be at -1 or lower. That behavior from the review sounds peculiar.
So if "delete" behaves differently there, that would be an additional reason not to attribute, I guess -- it'd be pretty confusing for people who know the rules.

@MonicaCellio At 0 in LQP review, you get the delete option

@ArtOfCode I guess they're counting its presence in the queue as an effective DV. Or something.

shrug - something like that

So it would probably be less confusing for review deletions to be attributed to Community than to no one, but more confusing to try to name names.
Well, the last of the fall holidays is starting soon here. See y'all tomorrow night.
