lucasgcbA Government that relies on Private Military Companies for law enforcement? I'm trying to think up of a dystopian future largely influenced by money. It is a time where things a transitioning to a point where governments become nigh irrelevant fundamentally, here is an excerpt: Circa 2100, ...

IncognitoHow can I motivate interns to recruit more members for an evil pyramid scheme? This particular coven operates as a powerful and wide spanning enterprise focused on accumulating power to direct the world in ways that align with their interests. This group operates similar to HYDRA or COBRA, recru...

@AndyD273 Sup

2:30 PM
Greetings from afar.

@James Not too much. Excited for the next round of debates?

3:00 PM
@AndyD273 When is that?

3:34 PM
@James Next tuesday apparently... For some reason I thought it was this week... But not many people are talking about it
Well, other than the pretty cringy game show they had to show that they weren't rigging it again.

Looks like by the polls Biden is in the lead, with Sanders, Warren, and Harris neck-to-neck.

Though considering all the other cheating they've done in the past, I still don't trust they didn't pull a fast one.

I don't really support violence, but with the pack of candidates this time, I'm almost thinking it's time to vote with a rifle.
On BOTH sides.
(Don't worry, I won't... But I won't be sorry if someone else does.)

Eh, politics is a game that nations play. It's a bit like getting worked up to murder over the sports ball thing

Yeah, but if you get the wrong guy in, then there's murder on a national scale.
AKA war.

3:40 PM
Only if you have a bunch of unhinged wackos

I'm actually pretty impressed with how Trump's been handling Iran, TBH. A cross between defensiveness enough to be safe-ish, but not engaging and escalating it.

Yup, which is smart, since I don't think Iran wants actual war, they just want to look like they want war, so that someone, anyone, will take them seriously and try to negotiate with them. It's probably why they shot down an unmanned drone just before the G20. And then Trump distracted everyone by going into North Korea, and took all the news cycles away from Iran.

Although, I hear Britain and Germany are gearing up to fight them.
If that happens, I hope we don't get involved.

I hope not too, though it does seem like Trump doesn't want new wars

IMO, we need to get out of the middle east.

3:52 PM
Hopefully the stuff Britain and Germany are doing is just a show of strength

We've proved we can't really stop the terrorists--just limit their activity.
And we're just pissing the locals off, so if we do end up fighting China or Russia there, they'll be against us.
At the end of the day, the locals who know who is who need to fight the terrorists themselves.

I'm all for it, so long as they don't follow us home. At least ISIS seems to be pretty crippled, last I heard.

It'll end up being a very brutal fight, if it ever happens, much like how we fought down the native americans--no prisoners taken, etc.
It won't be nice at all, but that's honestly the only way to win this war. Complete possession of the territory with everyone being either for you or dead.
Like Saddam Hussein.

It's hard to take prisoners when the other side thinks that going out in a blaze of glory will only make their afterlife better

Even if they don't, but they believe in the cause enough, it's hard.

3:57 PM
Need strong local law enforcement, and the will of the average people to make things better.

Exactly. And the average people are torn between us and them, at the best, since we can't catch them and stop them from terrorizing the locals.
And we don't know who is who enough to stop them. And our troops aren't even allowed to support the locals who are completely on our side.
Like, I've read stories about ANA who were conducting night raids and wanted our help, but our troops weren't allowed to conduct night raids.
They couldn't even give them extra ammo (the ANA were low) because we didn't use the same weapons.
Then again, there's ANA who wanted us out as much as anyone.
We don't know who to trust, and they can't really trust us.
It's basically a lose-lose situation.

Yeah. Can't stay, can't withdraw too fast...

@Hosch250 Easy dude. Two cops in Louisiana just got fired for suggesting AOC needed a bullet.
Now...a cage match with all the contestants I would totally watch.

@James American Ninja Warrior. Tell me that wouldn't be amazing.
"And Biden goes for the spring platform and--oh, that's a slip straight into the tank!"
"That's right, Jerry, and it doesn't look like Yang is handling the--oh, wait a moment... and he's across the rope bridge!"
"That's good, Bob, but will Trump make it through the vertical climb? That's going to be a tough one for him."

4:41 PM
@James It would be one way to thin it down from 20+

4:52 PM
@NexTerren My money would have to be on Buttegig for that competition.

5:50 PM
It would definitely favor younger candidates...

In a story I'm working on where a car accident takes place and I'm trying to tweak the circumstances such that a very specific legal outcome is plausible. Would that be a question for worldbuilding or law?

@Mastrem Ah. Hm. I think Law would reject it, but you're probably not going to get the best expertise here.
Unless you phrased it right for them.
Don't say "I need this for my story."
But something like "In US Law, in what case would X happen after Y?"

they have a 'hypothetical' tag, though it's only been used nine times
@NexTerren I think I'll try it here and if some aspect of ananswer is unclear, that would give me the basis for a good question on law.

6:14 PM
@Mastrem Hey, that's a good idea.

7:18 PM
Sounds like community service is fairly common for cases like yours. How much is determined by the state law and the judge.
