Well, dang, I goofed. :(

Apparently, a world orbiting an orange dwarf star would still have a blue sky!

Dang it!

1:30 AM
And the artist did an amazing job on several backgrounds for my alien world.
Anyone have any suggestions?

I asked a question https://worldbuilding.stackexchange.com/questions/149523/what-levels-of-argon-and-neon-along-with-other-factors-are-needed-to-make-the

But now people are telling me that it would still be blue. :(
@JourneymanGeek the only thing I can think of to solve this is to use the fact that the setting is military science fantasy. Psionic energy particles cause the sky to be orange.

thinner athmosphere they're adapted to, and dust storms

hey there @HDE226868

@SCPilot alternatively, show don't tell
No one really knew why the sky was blue for millenia

Oh? How so?

The sky is red. They wouldn't have argon or neon or CO2. They'd have their own names for it.

@scohe001 Looking at what we've got so far, our limit is about 200 sandboxed questions before we create a new one.
We've really only had that issue in that last two years, when activity hit a huge uptick.

It's a jungle planet too. So, not a lot of dust storms

Wait...wouldn't thinner atmosphere be a bad thing?

Well, not if you're adapted for it

@Shalvenay Happy timezone.

XD

@JourneymanGeek that's true. I was also going off of this too: http://planetstar.wikia.com/wiki/Forest_planet

It said that given the amount of light different stars give off, a planet's vegetation would be a different color instead of green. A planet orbiting an orange dwarf would have red vegetation.
Forest planets tend to have atmospheres thicker than Earth's but with similar proportions of gases, like nitrogen, oxygen, carbon dioxide, and methane. The combination between thicker atmosphere and greater amounts of greenhouse gases would mean heating be distributed more evenly around the planet. As a result, climate would be similar worldwide, allowing forests and wildlife to thrive over much of the planet's surface. If it is tropically warm over much of the world, the term "jungle planet" would often be used instead. Because of the mentioned atmospheric tendencies, three quarters of all
So, @JourneymanGeek yeah a jungle/forest planet would have a thicker atmosphere.
Wait....

DOH!

Volcanic eruptions!
It could release red/orange dust into the atmosphere and cause the sky to be orange!
@JourneymanGeek and @Shalvenay please slap me for having a Homer Simpson moment.

2:08 AM
I'll post dust as an answer later

Cool. And thank you. :D
@Shalvenay I also remembered some other shows that show off weapons: Weaponology and Mail Call.

@Shalvenay

@SCPilot seen some of that, yeah

What did you think of them?
Lock n' Load with R. Lee Ermey is a reality television series about the development of military weaponry throughout the centuries. Hosted by actor and former U.S. Marine drill instructor R. Lee Ermey, its one season originally aired on the History channel in 2009. == Format == In a typical episode, Ermey focused on one specific type of weapon or weapon system, presenting key advancements in its technology and demonstrating their use with the help of experts. In a holdover from his duties hosting Mail Call on the History Channel, he frequently added humor in the form of light-hearted dril...
Apparently watermelons taste better after being shot by a machine gun. I learned that from him. :D

lol
I've seen a bit of R. Lee Ermey as well...they aren't bad, just not as in-depth as some of the stuff you can find online these days
(Forgotten Weapons really, really gets into how things tick)

Oh? So shows like Weaponology and the ones by R. Lee Ermey weren't in depth?

@SCPilot not as in depth
not "geek out over primer actuation" in depth
not "giving you a complete history of how the Luger came to be" in depth

2:37 AM
Oh. I can see your point now.
BTW, do you think games like Call of Duty portray weapons accurately?

@SCPilot not particularly? I don't have a good reference frame for that

Oh? You would think games like Call of Duty would at least try to portray the weapons accurately.

@SCPilot there are lots of game-balance concerns that come into play as well

Oh?

@SCPilot as well as playability etc (esp. on consoles)

2:47 AM
Well, what do you see as not being accurate for weapons?]

@SCPilot I wouldn't be able to tell you in detail -- I have 0 trigger time to serve as a reference frame

Oh okay.

@SCPilot 1. Full auto sucks.
2. You rarely shoot from the hip or shoot and scoot

@HDE226868 thanks HDE!

Q: Can acoustics be a synonym for audio?

CynWith two recent questions: How quiet can a static, non-propulsive pulsejet be? What frequency range would be ideal for audible communication on a planet with a thick atmosphere? I found myself looking for a acoustics tag with no luck. Nothing comes up in the tags when I search for "hear" or "s...

@scohe001 No problem!
