Q: What does this answer have that makes it spammy, rude or abusive?

RenanA long time ago we had this question: City defenses against kaiju attacks? Which, in TL;DR form would read: How can civilization fend off against Godzilla sized beasts I had an answer there which I wanted to reference in another questio today. But now I found that it was deleted due to b...

10 hours later…
2:22 PM
@Mephistopheles Unix people are the Vegans of the digital world.

2:46 PM
Oooh, got my first populist badge thanks to @Gryphon. :-)

@HDE226868 I've managed two of those somehow.

@James You're clearly the worldbuilder of the people. . .

@HDE226868 Don't tell anyone, I have a reputation to maintain.

@James Then go back to your proprietary spyware.

That's, er, maybe a term we want to avoid; it has some pejorative connotations.
(And I don't mean "proprietary".)

2:53 PM
@HDE226868 Honestly not familiar with that one.

@James It's niche. As is, come to think of it, everything in this room. :P
Gotta run; see y'all later.

@HDE226868 Ok I had to look it up. @Mephistopheles you can just call me a heathen I don't mind.

Since when can YOU edit MY post?
I want to use the n-word and the g-word whenever and wherever I want!

@Mephistopheles Moderators have magical powers.
Nerd and Geek aren't offensive.
I mean...to non crazy people at least.

@James Enjoying being phised in the next election!

3:04 PM
@Mephistopheles did you mean phished?

@HDE226868 There's a badge I got before you? A gold badge? What is going on, the world is ending.

@James Correct

@Gryphon It does seem like a vortex to some horrible alternate reality should be opening up...
@Mephistopheles How would you phish someone in relation to an election?

@James Well, not phised, just being used to predict whether Satan or Belzebub gets to be president. That is, of course, is entirely the fault of the people.

Also, I got my answer accepted on a question also answered by HDE. The world is definitely ending.

3:12 PM
@Gryphon then play Komm, süsser Tod
are there any Germans here?

@Mephistopheles I think Sece is German, but he's not here right now. Other than that, I don't think any of our regulars are German.
d0t_sp0t is Swiss, I think. I'm pretty sure he speaks German.

@Mephistopheles I've never said this about a candidate before but I am loving Andrew Yang right now.
I actually donated real money...that was a first

@James Who was he, again?

@Gryphon @a Cvn and I think @dot_Sp0T are in Germany
@Mephistopheles He's the Asian dude running for President.

I wonder what the spread of nationalities in this room are. I presume mostly north Americans and western Europeans but it would be interesting to see if we had any other areas represented.

3:20 PM
Mostly W Europe and NA, but we do have a few users that are in SE Asia too

@James That reminds me, I really need to make time to watch his chat with Shapiro.

3:42 PM
@James What are his ideas?

3:53 PM
@Mephistopheles The main one is UBI.

@Gryphon ?

@Mephistopheles Universal Basic Income.

@James I feel violated
@Gryphon Yes you are right. All swiss speak German (except the Italian swiss and the French Swiss)

@Gryphon Correct
Also, good evening (or whatever applies to your current timezone) to everyone!

4:35 PM
@dot_Sp0T Did I mess that up?
There is a surprising amount of data/studies linked for a political campaign's policy page.

Q: Should Proofreader be a Silver Badge?

overlordThe badge is as follows: Proofreader Approve or reject 100 suggested edits However, considering the fact that one needs 2,000 reputation in order to do so: I feel like a Silver badge is much more appropriate. After all, once you gain access to this, you're essentially an established member ...

@Gryphon It's definitely the most well known, because it reels people in but if you look at his policies page he has more and they are generally more fleshed out than his opponents policies.
@Secespitus Hola Secespitus
@Gryphon The Shapiro one is good but if you're up for a long form interview, which I genuinely recommend, watch him on Joe Rogan's podcast.
@Green I see you over there.
Green did you listen/watch the Rogan Yang interview yet?

4:55 PM
@James no, sorry. No time.

@Green Slacker.
Are you in Toronto? My wife is looking at presenting at a conference thing there at some point.

@James I can send u German chocolate instead of Swiss chocolate if u wanna find out
@Bellerophon Up until you wrote this i was pretty sure that you're not included in this

@James This is setting off my "Law of Equivalent Exchange" radars. You simply can't have something without someone else losing something of equal value somewhere. Maybe we should instead make planned obsolence illegal.

5:12 PM
@James I am in Toronto.

@dot_Sp0T Oh....damn. Yeah that's my bad, The Swiss are definitely not German...

@dot_Sp0T Included in what?

@Mephistopheles So think about this question. In the United States are we still in an era of scarcity for basic needs?

@James We still pollute just as much, but we relocated all of that into China. To save the world, China has to be destroyed in some sense, to destroy the communist China, the capitalist west that is its life-support has to be destroyed too. From the ashes, a new world order would be born, ruled by rationality, not greedy $/#-s, where power is so compartmentalized, that no person can say he holds it.

5:34 PM
Sometimes I hate the daily rep cap. Specifically when it stops me from getting more rep.
The rest of the time I like it, see the reasoning behind it, etc. But when it stops me from getting rep, it incurs my wrath.

@James I know this is a horrible non-answer, but it depends on how you define "basic" and how you define "scarcity."
It's pretty easy to include "food and water" in there, and then get (rough) nutrition and quantity requirements, but how about (hot button topic) health care? Is it a basic need? If so, what's the threshold of an expected ammount of healthcare? What's a metric that you have enough healthcare?
@Mephistopheles And what do you mean by "destroy?"

5:53 PM
@NexTerren Destroy its current state. I mean, it checks every point in my "evil things" book:
Mass censorship
Social credit system
Communism
Pollution

...Hogs all of the Giant Panadas...

Apathetic people

China has one of the most evil governments in the world atm.

Despite how Google wants to look like the most moral company on Earth, free software did more against authoritarian regimes. Change my mind.

@Gryphon But strangely I don't think most Westerners think of them as evil. I mean most people will say "sure, they're bad," but nobody really cares. If you hear something was made in China you might hear some grumbling about not being made local. Imagine if, say 10 years ago, someone said "Oh, yeah, we get [product] through Al-Qaeda" as a contrast.
I guess we're fine with civilized evil?
@Mephistopheles What do you mean by "Free software did more against authoritarian regimes?" Like open source software? Because Google has a lot of open source software...

At work, can't listen.

>THIS

@NexTerren Probably more about us being fine with evil that doesn't kill people like us.
And thus is unlikely to kill us. Even if it kills a bunch of other people.

@Gryphon Hm, fair.

@NexTerren basically, they once wanted to expand into China and develop one of those nice little censoring algorithms, to filter out democracy.
"Don't be evil"
That's our job

6:08 PM
@Gryphon I'm honored. . .

@HDE226868 I'm just kinda surprised there's an answer badge you hadn't gotten yet.
Or, I guess you've got it now...

“Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.

@Gryphon I'm still missing Illuminator, Lifeboat, Tenacious and Unsung Hero (though those last two are perhaps impossibly out of reach).

They may be more likely to go to Heaven yet at the same time likelier to make a Hell of earth. This very kindness stings with intolerable insult. To be "cured" against one's will and cured of states which we may not regard as disease is to be put on a level of those who have not yet reached the age of reason or those who never will; to be classed with infants, imbeciles, and domestic animals.”

@Mephistopheles Sauce?

6:12 PM
@HDE226868 I mean, 3/4 of those nobody has.
And the last one only 4 people have.

@NexTerren OH! I just realized, that means source!

@Mephistopheles Haha, sorry, yeah that was an early 2000s meme for saying "source."

@Gryphon Yeah, okay, fair. :P

How do you not have a gold tag badge? You answer every cool physics/astronomy question.
You also have more silver badges than I have badges.
Sorry, I'm just looking through your profile.

@Gryphon Not enough of them for me to answer, to be quite honest. I'm almost there on science-based (9 away, it looks like), and 4 away from a silver tag badge for physics. I answer most of the astronomy/astrophysics ones (15% for astronomy, 16% for astrophysics), but folks just don't ask that many of them.

6:22 PM
...I think someone thinks one of my questions is a roleplaying thread.

A: How to verify or establish identity where shapeshifters exist

Ashley ShirleyHey does anyone know the symptoms before a shift? I have a huge problem, two weeks before and after the full moon, I feel like a sauna, my bones ache and i want raw meat. I also sometimes catches a few unique scent and something inside me screams, mine. My eyes also turn gold sometimes. I need h...

@NexTerren One list item from my SE bucket list can be crossed out.

@Bellerophon in your list of regions :)

6:43 PM
Note to self: Ask a question about gold under extreme temperatures and pressures tomorrow.

@HDE226868 So SO's community department?

7:06 PM
...An answer I linked earlier that a staff member had a silent edit war over is now deleted. Man. I don't think SE is going to take anything the community is saying to heart.

7:24 PM
@Mephistopheles Whats this?

@James You tell me

@Ranger I admit...I laughed.
@Mephistopheles No idea what you're talking about, but I haven't been keeping up the last week or so...drama is tiring.

@James It's nothing new
Hey, I just posted a new question. What are your thoughts?

Q: Scientific reason for incest burners to be an effective ward against malevolent "spirits"

MephistophelesMalevolent Spirit: Malevolent spirits are swarms of barely visible machines that have accidentally been imprinted with a deceased person's memories. They posess swarm intelligence and communicate with each other through acoustic vibrations. They also share their energy through electromagnetic ind...

@Mephistopheles ...allergies?

@James A machine with an allergy?

7:36 PM
@Mephistopheles ...I admit I only read the title, and even then it didn't really make sense.

@James Sorry, about that. I bet Freud is all over it now.

No, no, I mean my answer didn't even make sense as an answer to the title...since spirits don't have...you know...bodies.

@James Well, not conventional ones...

7:51 PM
@Mephistopheles Maybe your machines give the mind of the inhabiting dead person a very sensitive sense of smell? If I smell incense for too long it gives me a migraine. Maybe they just instantly get migraines?

@Gryphon ...can a dead guy have a migraine. This site leads to the weirdest questions.

@James I mean, not the dead guy, the imprint of the dead guy's mind on a cloud of nanomachines... this isn't making this any better.

lol

@Gryphon Staple Tapeworms would still be better at causing migraines

2 hours later…
9:43 PM
@dot_Sp0T Ah right.

10:39 PM
Out of interest what region did you think I was from?
