12:15 AM
Hello
Hey, @Shalvenay how's it going?

12:44 AM
Sigh
If no one provides any more feedback on my sandbox drafts I quess I'll post them on main, though they don't really have upvotes
I think I have 2 that are about ready

@FoxElemental doing alright here

1 hour later…
2:10 AM
I used a flag. Where's my cookie?
I flagged a post for closure that already had some close votes on it (because I can't VTC). Is that what you wanted?

@Mazura :P pops a random cookie into @Mazura's mouth
also hey there @Hosch250 and hey as well @JourneymanGeek

Raisins?!?! gaaa
It's a trap!

and bran
cannot forget the bran

1 hour later…
3:15 AM
@Shalvenay Hey!

@Hosch250 how're things going?

In a game. Can't talk for a few mnutes

@Hosch250 ah

3:44 AM
Can talk between games now for a bit.

6 hours later…
9:21 AM
We can now add "Leo VI" (worldbuilding.stackexchange.com/users/52314/leo-vi) to the list of alts.

9:34 AM
@Aify Have you flagged for mod attention?

3 hours later…
12:57 PM
Hey yall

hey @FoxElemental

@HDE226868 In case you hadn't seen, it's 4 messages up^^^^
howya doing, @AjnatorixZersolar

@FoxElemental good, you?

Fine.
Thanks
Any new ideas or drafts lately, @Ajnatorix?

@FoxElemental wondering about a humanoid evolving to sleep upside down, but not much else

1:04 PM
Oh, I have tons of drafts. Hold on
This one on languages in the sandbox (needs more revisions/feedback, haven't gotten much)
Which is a follow up to the original, this one
This question in the Sandbox on acid cows.
And this one on a dragonfly's wings making music.

@FoxElemental how regularly do you post these out of curiosity?

As often as they get updated to the point where
1. People say they are ready
2. I feel really comfortable with the question
or I don't post them at all
But I had a really fun conversation Thursday: Starting here and down the entire page. Though you could just go through the chat transcript starting on Thursday

@FoxElemental i like to think about someone stumbling upon this chat/site, not understanding the context :)

I know.
Disaster
Well, anyways, I edit the drafts on my own so that the Sandbox is usually at the top of Meta, in hopes that it will get more attention
But they haven't been getting much feedback.
@AjnatorixZersolar I imagine you'd need special feet

@FoxElemental i can sort that, its the effect on the brain that worries me

1:18 PM
Oh yeah

@FoxElemental d'you reckon that would be worth a sandbox draft?

Probably
If you asked specifically about the brain issue
Then people could help you modify it
So it doesn't run the risk of being POB/TB or lacks detail

@FoxElemental its likely to need a lot of editing, im not the best at writing questions.

Sandbox it. @Secespitus and I at least will try to help.

A: Sandbox for Proposed Questions

Ajnatorix ZersolarHow would a humanoid change to sleep upside-down? I have a character who, for his own reasons, decides to turn bat-like and sleep hanging upside-down. Handwave the feet/attachment issue, what would need to change for a person to sleep upside-down, safely, for 8 hours approx? Sandbox questions. ...

@Feeds4026 Already working on it

2 hours later…
3:25 PM
I'm back

3:42 PM
@FoxElemental for tags, would you put "humans" or "humanoid"?

@AjnatorixZersolar humans

@FoxElemental ok so i've got "sleep", "humans" and "reality-check" any others you would add?

Not that I can think of

@FoxElemental thanks for the help :)

@AjnatorixZersolar of course :)

3:59 PM
To anyone willing: could someone please help me with this, this, or this? I haven't gotten much feedback for a bit.

hey there @Mithrandir24601

Hi @Shalvenay

@Shalvenay Rytsas! How're things?

@Mithrandir24601 alright here, as for you?

@Shalvenay Good, thanks :) I've got a nice relaxing day today for once, although I'm moving flat next week

4:03 PM
@Mithrandir24601 ah :)
hey as well @HDE226868

@Aify If I may, I'm going to veeery briefly hijack the room for a second to say a few words on this.

I'm doing fine myself :)

To everyone: Please stop posting potential sockpuppet candidates in chat.
7
You cannot tell for sure that they're socks. Moderators can check IP addresses, voting patterns and similar information, and we can tell with much better accuracy than the normal user.
3
If they are socks, we've likely already seen them, unless they were just created 10-30 minutes ago.

@Mithrandir24601 got a worldbuilding question bubbling back up (I may have asked this before at some point, but the discussion went off onto an aggravated-assault tangent and never really spoke to what I was more interested in): how would someone with natural weapons (such as say, a breath weapon) deal with modern society's notions of a "weapon-free zone" (like if they were called to appear in court?)

We can also see if a user is question-banned or not. Regular users cannot.
Furthermore, there are valid uses for socks. I don't recommend them, but they can be used so long as you don't do anything with them you couldn't do with a single account.
A sockpuppet existing is not grounds alone for moderator action. Doing something dodgy with that sock is. If we see something dodgy and can see everything that the user is doing, we will consider action.
But it's not helpful for people to speculate that an account may or may not be a sockpuppet. You can't tell for sure.
If you have reason to believe that a user is doing something inappropriate, flag one of their posts for moderator attention. We're not necessarily going to see it in chat, and anyway, that's not the right venue - in most cases - for asking for moderator attention.
James and I are normally in chat, but not always. For some periods, we're busy and may not be able to spend time in the room. But there are are six mods on the site; flag, and someone has a much better chance o seeing it.
cc @Aify @FoxElemental @Andy aaaaand anyone else relevant. But I suppose people will see the pinned message.
Okay, back to your regularly scheduled programming chaos. Thanks, everyone.

4:10 PM
@HDE226868 Understood. Thanks for letting us know

@HDE226868 One question: is this public info?

@Mithrandir24601 No. That counts as Personally Identifying Information (PII); moderators cannot release it under any circumstances. Additionally, I wouldn't be comfortable telling people whether or not we've seen even general IP trends in a specific case.

@HDE226868 Yeah, sorry - as in, is the fact that mods can access that specific info public knowledge?

@Mithrandir24601 Oh, yeah, that's very much public.
It's been talked about a lot on Meta SE.

@HDE226868 Ah, OK, forget I asked! :P
thanks

4:13 PM
Heh, my memory's bad enough that I likely will. :P

Don't worry. We trust our mods are responsible ;)
afk for a couple hrs

@Shalvenay I have some vague memory of the existence of this idea :P Depending on the region, I'd imagine that you'd either need to carry some sort of identification saying that you have this 'weapon' or you'd need to apply for something or other in order to not have to carry such a pass, or at least, that's what I'd reckon

yeah, hrm...

@FoxElemental That's good :) It's just that mods have super-secret access to knowledge of the unicorns, which cannot be made public, only I'm new to this, so I'm not sure which part is public knowledge. I mean, people must know that mods get unicorns, right?

I wonder what'd happen initially though?

4:22 PM
@Shalvenay In this day and age? Depending on the area, either everyone would be OK with it, everyone would be sort-of OK with it but would also start carrying around weapons cough south USA cough or there'd probably be some complete uproar

@Mithrandir24601 yeah, I could see it going any of the ways you mention -- in what sorts of places do you think it'd be OK, and what sort of places would it be a total uproar?

@Shalvenay I'm not really sure - in the UK, we're not allowed to carry weapons (with exceptions for martial arts/sports etc.), so I'd imagine that someone having (such an obvious) weapon as part of their nature would cause a bit of an uproar - it's gotten to the point where you're not even allowed to post knives to private addresses (this is really annoying for HEMA practitioners and sword collectors etc.), so having a weapon in public would be bad
While in other countries, where a weapon is allowed in public (USA, China), I don't see any problem in extending that to a 'weapon free zone', maybe with a couple of guards to something to ensure everything stays reasonably OK

5:06 PM
@Mithrandir24601 yeah, I suppose it'd depend on where in the USA you were -- a courthouse in Vermont is going to be very different from the airside at JFK

5:34 PM
@Shalvenay yeah. No idea how things would work at an airport

5:58 PM
hey there @FreezePhoenix
@Mithrandir24601 yeah, I don't think an airport would be the worst of it either -- courthouses and other gov't buildings would be a far bigger issue

@Shalvenay Really? I suppose it depends on how secure/secret the government buildings are but here we're really tight on airport security

@Shalvenay hey

@Mithrandir24601 I mean in overall impact -- not being able to fly commercial's not a huge deal for most folks, but there'd be some serious issues with security denying you your day in court....
@FreezePhoenix how're things going?

@Shalvenay Oooh, I see what you mean - yeah, that would be a nightmare

@Shalvenay Just got back from a camping trip.

6:01 PM
@FreezePhoenix take it it went well?

Apart from being sore and tired yes :)
How have you been doing?

@FreezePhoenix fine here, just batting around some worldbuilding with Mithrandir here -- namely, how dropping a character with a natural weapon (such as a breath weapon) into a modern environs would interact with the notion of "weapons-free zones" in modern physical-security practice

I think that individual would count as a gifted or dangerous individual... not sure which. I think that doing so would add to global trust, after a period of decline in said trust, as you can't remove said weapon.

@FreezePhoenix yeah, I was thinking short-term, as in "they got a court summons but got turned away at the courtroom door for being armed" sorts of catch-22s

well, why would the court summon them not knowing they have a natural weapon?
I mean, do you get turned away for having nails and teeth?

6:15 PM
@FreezePhoenix I'd say claws-and-teeth (even at monstrous levels) are one thing
but being able to spit acid/fire/... at someone's a whole another level of threat, no?

1 hour later…
7:32 PM
@HDE226868 yessir~

2 hours later…
9:13 PM
wut

oya
Hello

@FoxElemental hello

How are you?

Good. Got back from camping today. You?

Fine
Waiting for feedback on my Sandboxed drafts. Kinda slow
I . . . don't code, sorry

9:20 PM
What is your draft you are looking for feedback on?
@FoxElemental Oh oh oh,

@FreezePhoenix Any of them, though the top 5 that are mine are the ones I need most help with. The acid cow and the metal macaw part 2 particularly

Acid cow...

But I skimmed through, and "Cthulhu" is spelled that way, not "Cuthulu"
@FreezePhoenix Yes, why?

I'm not finding any of your sandboxed posts

It's this sandbox
The Current WB meta one
Not the Code one or whatever

9:36 PM
There are a lot of comments

Yeah
Usually

There are a lot on your post also.

Well
Gotta go for a little while
Be back w/in the hour+1/2
