@Cerberus then there isn't a whole lot you can do. You can try and get them changed and one of the other nice things about being a mod is you have a lot more communication with SE employees. Major differences are rare, but there are little differences of opinion regularly enough

but again, it's kind of similar to being a judge. The job is to uphold the policies of the site as set by both SE and the community itself

it doesn't have to be popular or even what you personally believe in

at the end of the day, the #1 reason to be a mod is to see the community flourish, but it is a challenge at times

I've got a piece of malware that I can't seem to get rid of. I've uninstalled everything on the list that is new. Firefox is connecting to secure sites since my reboot though.

@Cerberus it's part of the job. Having a policy I disagree with is still better than having chaos

and overall, helping the community work is worth the minor frustrations

you just have to learn to remove yourself emotionally from the situation and evaluate it objectively

not that I do it perfectly every time, but that's the goal

the big thing is that if you believe in the overall system, it's a lot easier to go with minor things you disagree with

beyond a certain point, fighting over something causes more problems than the difference between them makes

It was in extensions in Chrome. The "help page" that I got to says that I could get to it through the Windows Control Panel. But no, I deleted that program yesterday. It did not delete the extension. They're sneaky.

No, I just use the freebie anti-virus from Microsoft. I don't think I've got any way to initiate a scan.

It does a "quick scan" every morning - OH it will let me do a more complete one. I'll do that now.

I missed most of the discussion and my phone is almost dead but I completely agree with you re: ELU @Jolenealaska I never feel welcome to post there. The rules are dumb. The obsession with single word requests is very annoying, especially when a troll swing by and bitches about meta every time one comes up.

Ooh and the split between ELU and ELL is... Weird. And serves to add to the stuffy, haughty atmosphere

being a mod isn't for everyone. But if you believe in the objective of stack exchange to have a resource that can have the best possible answers for any question in a field and believe that the general way they go about it is correct, then it can be a very rewarding way to help make that a reality

for me, my main motivation in being a mod is the same as my motivation for participating in the sites in general. I gained a lot of my knowledge from things people shared with me and I want to help build a resource that others can use to learn

I don't even particularly like this episode, but it has always bugged me that they go to 19th century San Francisco in perfect costume, but without means to pay rent, or presumably even eat. I understand not replicating currency, but why not bring gold?

Yep. Stuck in Data's head by Picard. No tools, no fancy technology, he just grabs a sliver of iron off the ground and sticks in in Data's head.

500 years later Data gets the message when his head is reattached.

So the head that gets reattached isn't really the same head that gets left in the cave. Which is the one that Picard puts the filing in.

I'm double checking now. Yep, there is Data with his head and holding a head.

Everything in this particular truck had it, and everything in the next truck over had chipotle sauce. I decided to ask if they can leave it off and got a smile and a "sure" and a sandwich with siracha mayo on it

I then determined that I cannot, in fact, taste Siracha. I could taste everything else in the sandwich, and then a searing pain on my tongue that I figure was the sauce :(

I love it and use it on just about everything. I'll go through a 28oz bottle every month, but I'm a total chili head. It's definitely hot enough to cause pain to some people. Putting a spoonful of it in your mouth would be about equivalent to chewing a big bite of jalapeno.
