I think we need to have a canonical question on meat safety, if we don't already have one; seeing way too many near-identical questions on "I left this out for x hours, is it still good?"

What is the deal with people leaving meat out, anyway? Who does that?

I sometimes leave meat out, but only to defrost; and I don't forget that meat in the evening, obviously

I can imagine you leave by accident a package of ham on the counter after making a sandwich

but I don't think I'd ask a question about it
