@Laurel hmmmm

For some reason the games my group plays are pretty slow lol

In person or online?

Online, play by chat
Probably has something to do with it lol

@Laurel we've got a whole stack dedicated to helping solve these problems if you can articulate it

A: Improving combat when playing on IRC

thatgirldmOne thing that helps me as a DM in my very large, easily distracted group is to implement an "on-deck" call. So I'll say, "John, your turn. Jane, you're up next", and make sure I get an acknowledgement that Jane heard me. Even if Jane hadn't been paying attention until now, it gives her all of Jo...

Yeah but then the question becomes how do I run things faster lol. In the other system that I just started running recently (Dungeon World, kinda a funny story how that happened) it's a lot faster paced to the point where I feel like it's only my ability to think of and type out messages that's slowing things down a little. (For reference the system I'm running now is Pokemon Tabletop United, which takes place in the same setting as the anime.)

@Laurel Sounds like the sort of thing you could ask about at RPG.se. We'd be happy to have you.

@Laurel Honestly if your group is being that disrespectful to you, i.e. constantly talking about other stuff during session and going off on side tangents that break immersion, I would consider that pretty rude. It's totally fine to have jokes and occasional third wall breaks, or pausing play if people have IRL stuff happen, but generally respecting the DM and the other players' fun is just basic courtesy.
Your group might be more casual so I could be off base, but that seems pretty crappy of them imo.

I was also joining in on the out of character chat so it's all good
Luckily we have ooc talk in a separate channel from the campaign (now) to preserve everyone's sanity

Makes sense. If the side chatter is slowing down the game more than you would like though, that's a group-discussion-worthy issue
Your fun is important too
