@Sciborg The problem with it being so quiet is that lots of users jump in, notice it is quiet and never come back. If we could get enough noise in here for people to actually hang around that would be great.
@Sciborg Favourite site? Good to hear! We need more users like you.
@matt Welcome! You are welcome to discuss basically anything in here that may be of interest to writers, on-topic or not. But it is particularly good for asking questions that don't quite fit the main site, or for writing advice and critiques that would be off-topic elsewhere.

@linksassin I think it is definitely a combination of people hopping in, seeing it is quiet and leaving, and also most users not knowing it exists or that SE has chatrooms at all - it took me quite a long time to realize! I see a couple new active users around like DWKraus who I hope will pop into chat sometime and say hello. Hopefully things will pick up over time.

@Sciborg That's part of why I made the post in the meta question. Trying to raise awareness. Unfortunately apart from you that meta didn't get quite the reception I was hoping for.
There's lots of things we could try to increase participation but we really need some engagement to get the ball rolling.

@linksassin I was equally bummed that nobody else chipped in. But I think again that's a symptom of the general lack of high-rep users and meta-interested users.

Meta is so quiet that I kinda of wish it were on topic to post a main site question like "FYI meta and chat exist!"

Maybe that could be spun into a general news/announcement meta post, kind of a "State of the Site" thing, in which you mention that chat exists? Or maybe we need some kind of meta-based new user welcome program or competition :p
I don't know, it's tough to get people interested in meta in general these days.

@linksassin alright then :)
