@Ave Free healthcare doesn't generally mean that everything is paid for by the state or your insurance provider. It generally means that medical aid is heavily subsidized, but still with a small part provided by the person who needs the aid in order to discourage abuse

3:59 PM
@Nzall I like that "receiving healthcare" is considered to be "abuse" by literally any person

3 hours later…

Abusing the right to free healthcare with a large amount of trivial or nonexistent conditions

do you understand how this inevitably gets used to just deny people healthcare by broadening the definition of "abuse" or
all these people are abusing the system and we need to control that to save money
why
it literally costs more to try to define that

@Unionhawk Yeah, but that doesn't mean that it's okay for someone to waste a 15 minute appointment block of their doctor each day because they got a hangnail or something dumb like that

Cool I'm glad we had this talk, "framing it like this will cause harm" "yes but"

And sure, those things don't happen often, but sometimes people ruin it for everyone. And note that in this case, we're talking about "you need to pay some amount of your medical costs from your own pocket to discourage overuse", not "you can't visit the doctor more than X times per week"
Note that in Belgium, there's a special ruling for people who have a legitimately higher need of care, and if they're established as requiring that higher need of care, they need to pay less

Also if I had to guess: not a thing that happens and we shouldn't design around things that don't happen.

6:47 PM
So if you can prove you need to visit the doctor every other day because you have intensive medical care needs, that's fine, and we're going to further subsidize you because you need it, and even give you money for a home nurse so you don't need to visit the doctor every day. But if you're visiting the doctor every other day for something that doesn't need medical treatment, you're going to have to pay part of it from your own pocket

@Nzall great what about people who don't have money, you know what, actually,
this is not worth my time

@Unionhawk In Belgium, those people are considered in poverty and also get extra subsidies

Yeah let's put a pin in this conversation

Yeah, I agree, this is getting into TIF territory

all care for all people free at the point of service no questions asked
demand nothing less

6:50 PM
@Unionhawk If you really want to continue this, ping me in TIF, but I think this room isn't the place for it

I do not
