I just completed "Chronal Calibration" - Day 1 - Advent of Code 2018 in Python 3. Brute-force method took forever (5+ minutes) and iterated the list over 140,000 times. 😨 https://adventofcode.com/2018/day/1 #AdventOfCode
from typing import List

def convert_input_to_int_list(input_str: str, delimiter: str="\n") -> List:
    input_list: List = input_str.split(delimiter)
    number_list: List = []
    for item in input_list:
        number_list.append(int(item))
    return number_list

def solve_puzzle(input_str: str, delimiter: str="\n") -> int:
    visited_frequencies = []
    number_list: List = convert_input_to_int_list(input_str, delimiter)
    print(f"Test case: {number_list}")
    current_frequency: int = 0

@Phrancis :+1: for going out of your comfort zone.

hey
@Phrancis What VS are you using?

@Phrancis That's what happens when you check everything.

5:30 PM
@Phrancis Are you using Windows for Python 3.7 ? If so, which IDE?
Okay, nevermind. PyCharm installed and everything seems to be working!
Now... how do I read from a file in Python...?

@SimonForsberg Can you read Python?
Oh, you mean reading a file from Python, not reading a file of Python ;)

5:46 PM
@skiwi Exactly.

6:22 PM
@skiwi did you see the VS 19 Preview?
@Phrancis that seems long even for brute force.

6:41 PM
@Phrancis Clippy: It looks like you are trying to use a Set, would you like to use a Set instead of a List?
