RELOAD!
[banane-io/PDB] 1 commit. 2251 additions. 3454 deletions.

I wrote a powerlifting program in JavaFX, and it was nice being able to style things using CSS. I decided to switch back to Java after reading about its discontinued development.

I need to wait until I'm home to play with it, because it's blocked by my work's firewall apparently

@CompEng Ah didn't know that. A lot of people are moving to browser-based GUIs so maybe that would be something to consider

4:27 AM
At least, for a bigger project, this is fairly small so it's probably fine with Swing
@CompEng Got a couple of comments on game, rather than code:
1- While the techno music is kinda cool, I would imagine some people would want to turn it off, same for sound effects, so maybe you should include options for this
2- It seems overly sensitive to "wall" collisions, I've noticed multiple times where I was collecting an apple close to a wall (1-2 cells away) and it seemed that the game over fired early, maybe there's an issue there?
3- Please make WASD controls for those of us who play computer games regularly or are left-handed (or both, e.g.: me)
I'd also mention, after you implement the controls, to display something before you start a game that mentions it
On a positive note, the GUI is cooler than basically anything I've seen made with Swing, so kudos on styling
Definitively feels like a videogame interface and not a fucking form like what Swing usually looks like

Q: Parsing specific object from ByteArray

Ernest ZamelczykHere's my method used for parsing a ByteArray into multiple frames of CAN interface. It works now correctly but it's somewhat ugly in my opinion. It's written in Kotlin with use of RxJava2 private fun parseCanFrameBytes(frame: ByteArray): Observable<CanFrame> { return Observable.create { em...

Good morning everyone :)
@Phrancis It's getting booted from official support if I'm not mistaken
Never mind I just caught up the part where it's mentioned in the conversation.

hey
So.. it was a stackoverflow that somehow got upto 88 GB
Of course the 88 GB did not reproduce anymore, but the infinite recursion happily did
At least now we verified again that the server can handle 1000 connections perfectly fine :D

Monking!

Monking @Phrancis
Fun times at work when you need to replace critical functionality (an embedded browser in this case) and you get comments, etc. from certain people about things that are not (as good) as they used to be
I'm only doing it because it was decided that it needed to be done, I don't mind doing it, I'm not happy with the comments though

People don't like change, in general

I got (relatively lightly) scolded because I walked in a colleagues room (which is very normal in my company) because I found a serious issue in something he changed yesterday
It was an issue in our database implementation, it started returning wrong results, etc. in certain cases, maybe not many, but who knows in what cases
I explain the issue to him and want to demonstrate it, but he insisted I made a testcase for it because the issue might be in the implementation of the feature I demonstrated as it merely uses the database querying
That already seems nonsense to me as the feature was working correctly just before
Now whether I should've made a testcase and taken a more silent approach is a different matter.. but as far as I know it's pretty normal to inform colleagues directly if there's a serious bug
And then I get attacked on a minor issue (which is perhaps annoying in certain cases, but definitely no big issue) of which I even don't have direct control, in other words, addressing it would mean an architectural change which I'm not allowed to make independently and coworkers have other more important things to do

@Phrancis thanks for the feedback. 1) I completely agree with adding a mute option to the game. I'll probably add an option to choose between 2-3 different songs as well. 2) I'll take a look at the collision behaviour along the walls. Do you experience the same thing when trying to move along the snake itself?
3) The game definitely needs WASD controls, along with a control explanation. 4) I hate how swing applications usually look too, so it was definitely intentional to style it in a way that wasn't some generic swing form like you said ha.

For (2) I haven't tried along the snake

Koko the gorilla has sadly died aged 46 Here's the story of her life 🦍💚 https://t.co/GFzfSvydcp
Sad news :(

@Phrancis aww

9:41 PM
That gorilla had better communication skills than many humans.

@Phrancis I've updated the code to incorporate your suggestions, as well as some significant refactoring in the view. However, I still need to take a look at the collision behaviour.
If anyone else would like to try the game out, I'd love to hear your feedback as well.

Just did surprisingly well in my first game as Brightwing.
Didn't realize I was doing so well in game, but I ended with 2 of 5 possible votes.
And 23 assists.

11:19 PM
Hmm, main healer this time.
Interesting character.

@CompEng Have you experienced that collision behavior? I would describe as feeling like it is colliding with the square just before the wall, like an off-by-one issue
