i wouldn't recommend that tho

True, and we could essentialy have playlists for how fast the rift changes the board. 3 turns 5 turns 10 turns etc, based on used preferance and people could have decks built per playlist
@MattGiltaji Pay to play would kill it, haha.
*user

i know, it would be a terrible system
i would say a very low powered change would be better

I agree, the effects can't be too huge with the change especially if it is happening a lot during a match unless you have a quick kill deck. I think it could go by type. Ex. in medieval unit considered warrior type get a plus one bonus to something, in cyber units that are a tech type get a plus one bonus to something, etc. That way the bonus isn't enormous, but it is something that could sway the tide
I am going to sketch up some board ideas and stuff over the weekend and post here on monday when I'm back at work. I will tag everyone that's been involved thus far so we're all on the same page.
showing transitions, and general layout, etc.

nice, I'm add a question with the shift stuff to the zomis site

It could even be lees of a general bonus and more focused on synergies. Such as if xmedieval creature is next to another medieval creature when the shift happen to the medieval theme then they get the bonus. Cross Dimension ability or something like that.
That way you have to be ready for the shift and it's more strategy based then just waiting for the shift that help you. You have to plan ahead and hope your shift is what you need.
There could even be spell cards that bring your theme up, and make it a full on gameplay mechanic
But not sure how that would be balanced.
Just spitballing though

11:10 PM
@GreyFox maybe cards that accelerate the shift
so you play it and it shift next turn

Yeah, like there is a turn counter letting you know before the next shift!
you can remove turns on it

but maybe to what you want, maybe away from what your opponent wants
@GreyFox ooh, thats cool
so you can get ready for it
could be hidden until 2 or 3 turns away, then "the time rift begins to ripple"..."the time rift begins to seethe with violent energies" ... " the time rift explodes with unstoppable ferocity" ... you are in a meadow

YES! I love that idea. A constant change and there are warnings popping up before the shift. I love that idea.
I like the idea of the rift growing larger before it finally breaks and changes the theme.

@bazola Thanks for wanting to participate in it :)

That way you have an idea visually that it is getting closer.

11:17 PM
I hate to say this but all this shifting stuff sounds sort of gimmicky and confusing and doesn't seem like something that would be either "core" or "vanilla." Maybe good for some expansion or mod.

@DaggNabbit no worries
this is definitely not something we would want for alpha/beta
just trying to capitalize on the "omnishift" name
and just throwing ideas around :D

Agreed, we're just tossing stuff around right now, haha. @MattGiltaji Omnishift is definitely what got me thinking of a rift in the middle of the board.

Has anyone here ever played the old game Archon? Like Atari 2600 / C64 era?
that game had an integral sort of "shifting" aspect

I haven't, and I'm actually sad to admit that, haha. It was a little before my time, but I've played a ton of river raid and pit fall .:P

Archon: The Light and the Dark is a video game developed by Free Fall Associates and distributed by Electronic Arts. It was originally developed for Atari 8-bit computers in 1983, but was later ported to several other systems of the day, including the Apple II, Commodore 64, Amstrad CPC, ZX Spectrum, Amiga, IBM PC, Apple Macintosh, PC-88, and NES. It was designed by Paul Reiche III (who also created the graphics for the game) and Jon Freeman, and programmed by Anne Westfall. == Gameplay == On the surface, Archon appears similar to chess, but there are a number of significant changes. While the...

How was the shifting used?

It's like a chessboard right...
but the light pieces have advantage when battling on light squares, and vice versa

O_O That sounds great.

each turn the light squares shift towards dark and the dark squares shift towards light
and it cycles
yeah it's pretty damn fun actually :)

How has there not been a revamp of this?

idk, it would be a great one for a remake
also Mail Order Monsters (but not relevant)

11:23 PM
I agree, such a neat idea. I'll have to find a rom of that somewhere.

I'll go to bed and to France tomorrow, see you all in 9 days. It will be very exciting to see where we're at then!

added the quesiton
please let me know if I forgot anything

@SimonAndréForsberg See ya'! Nice meeting you as well!

Yo

The idea is that we periodically "shift" the environment theme around for some sort of minor power boost or purely aesthetic reasons. The in-game explanation of this is that there's an open time portal in the middle of the game board that keeps pulling cards into different eras/dimensions. Some ideas from the chat: Give card types a bonus based on the environment (warriors do

I talked to a friend of mine who's a graphics guy, said he would likely be interested once we get there to make cards, icons, etc., and in the mean time he wouldn't mind to help with mechanics, and GUI/layout ideas.
He's a Yu-Gi-Oh and MTG fan
(or used to be MTG anyways)

Neat!

The more I think about mana cards, the more I think we ought not to use them

just use mana counters

@GreyFox dude, get on your profile on Code Review and for the love of dogs, upload a picture!
Just Google Images for a grey wolf, lots of cool pics

like a thermometer that fills up/drains based on how it charges or gets spent

11:38 PM
What in the world would make you assume I live wolves. :P

fox != wolf

er, wolf

*like
haha I will get a pic up.... give me a sec. Geeze

@MattGiltaji you too :P

@Phrancis I prefer to remain anonymous
which i why I use a name that is fairly unique in google
:D

11:40 PM
Then maybe you should have remained as user1873249723
lol

Can you get 20 rep on any SE site to get into chat? He knows naught about programming

@Phrancis does he have a job?

Yeah. He could also get on graphics SE
Ask a question, 2 upvotes, bam. Plus would be good for him to spend some time there learning stuff and so on.

Fixed?
Nope...

11:43 PM
graphics are an awesome skill to have. My artistic ability is quite crap

I'm going to log out and back in, brb.

@GreyFox close chat and come back

4 upvoteso n aquestion

@MattGiltaji ditto
Oh right

I updated it on codereview. But now on chat or something? Maybe it takes a bit to update like my chat access a couple weeks ago, haha

11:45 PM
It may take a few minutes/hours

Thought so. But it's updated!

Cool

cylon?

Also, I'm going to work on some sketchs and general design things of what I have in my head and I'll have them ready by monday. Not sure if I'm going with photoshop, or just going to draw and scan the images.

@MattGiltaji what?

11:48 PM
greyfox's image, is it a cylon?

@Phrancis I thought he was talking about my profile picture. It looks like a cylon a bit. But I don't htink it's updated, haha at least not on my end.
Oh, no it's Grey Fox from Metal Gear Solid.

A Cylon would've been good to though, haha
*too
