1:45 PM
@Jolenealaska yes, but I suspect you aren't

I am!

well, here? or all here?
there's a BIG difference

Well I don't know about "all".

I'm rarely the latter

@AJHenderson you remind me of our AWOL guy.

1:49 PM
@Jolenealaska is that a good thing or a bad one?

We're missing a dude with a cat avatar.

He's always here, so it's got some of us concerned.
By "some of us" I mean me.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, he'll come back when he's hungry
for witty repartee

Did you hear about the wasabi pea company and my tooth?
It looks as if they're going to pay my dental bill.
They're also sending me free stuff :)

1:58 PM
@Jolenealaska that is partly a loophole for film studios that want an R rating
movies rated R tend to do better than movies rated PG-13, so a lot will try for an R rating specifically

@Jolenealaska ha! well done!
what free stuff are you getting?

Dunno, it was just mentioned in the email. It's Roland, so they make lots of stuff.

sweet
well, I expect a cut as it was my idea ;)

Hmmm.
R ratings DO make for a better box office, but they bug me.

@Jolenealaska what did the e-mail say?

2:03 PM
Particularly when they are rated R only for a few utterances of a "taboo" word.

@Seth hello

\o

what can we do you for?

Thank you for contacting us. We are sorry to hear about the problem you have experienced with our product. We will forward your contact information to our insurance company and they will contact you directly. Please retain copies of all dental bills, as they will have to be sent to our insurance company. If you are still in possession of the product, please retain in the event our insurance company requests during the process.

If possible, please let us know where you purchased the product and if you still have the bag please send us any can codes and/or production codes.

hm? I'm just looking around.

2:05 PM
@Seth don't mind him.

actually, historically PG-13 does better at the box office. the-numbers.com/market/mpaa-ratings

@Jolenealaska sweet

(obviously that's probably out of balance a bit as the big franchises target PG-13, but....)

Looks good so far. I haven't heard from the insurance company yet.

@Seth fine, fine. Just don't press your nose up to the glass ;)

2:10 PM
I think this is a first. I've got three chat comments starred. PARTY!

@ElendilTheTall unless you are a hot girl, you can't afford it

@AJHenderson funny you should say that...
@Jolenealaska <cough> 4 <cough>
5 if you include double stars

heeehee

@waxeagle oh really? interesting, guess it was an old wives tale. Thanks for pointing that out

It's easy when every phrase that leaves your fingertips is a finely crafted crystal of perspicacity and wit
@AJHenderson old wives discuss the relative successes of movies based on their certification?
those are some sophisticated old wives

2:13 PM
@AJHenderson the concept of upgrading from PG-13 to R is more about defining your audience/playing off of taboo more than making more money

@waxeagle yeah, maybe it was a particular type of movie that did better as R
it may have been specific to comedies or action movies
or possibly horror

yeah...genre breakdowns by rating would be helpful...

Films like The Kings Speech or Shawshank really piss me off that they're rated R.

@Jolenealaska meh, this is why you shouldn't take a ratings word for whether or not you see a movie. When I go watch a movie I don't so much care about the rating as the contents/plot etc

I think of all the trouble a 16 year old can find with daddy's car...

2:15 PM
@waxeagle in fact 'The Avengers' actively tried to avoid the R rating

@rfusca yeah, most of the super hero movies have actively avoided it. Their core audience would be shut out
(LOTR is the same story)

As well they should. That movie would have appeal to a teenage audience.

did anyone see Game of Thrones this week?
that's an R rating right there
actually more of a >.< rating

@ElendilTheTall Game would likely be pushing it at R. Didn't see this week, but have been following.

@waxeagle well, I won't spoil it, but dayum
not for nudity or 'adult themes', but for violence

2:18 PM
@ElendilTheTall yeah, I know what happens already...been waiting for it. The Finale is going to be so good :)

Oooh! @ElendilTheTall

I knew what happened happened, but it was shown in a graphic, graphic way
What I can't understand is what they're going to do when they catch up with the books

46
Q: Firefly scenes with Han Solo in the background

Tony MeyerApparently there are many scenes in Firefly where a figurine of Han Solo frozen in carbonite appears in the background. Is there a complete list of all of these scenes?

they aren't far off

@ElendilTheTall still another 2 books yet. but yeah, not far away at all. They probably have 3 more seasons of material
another book will give them 2 more...but Martin is not writing fast enough for them

2:20 PM
careful not to talk too much of the plot though, I'm only in season 2 atm
and I might have to throw out suspensions if someone drops a spoiler ;)
I totally think the SE staff would understand that particular abuse of power... right???... where'd everybody go?

lol :)
@ElendilTheTall my guess is the biggest issue they have in the next 2-3 years is "how do we make danyerys interesting" because...

@waxeagle 3 seasons?! they'll be lucky
@waxeagle quite
though I would watch Emilia Clarke reading the phone book tbh

@ElendilTheTall this season only covers the end of book 3, so there are two more books worth of material available...though book 4 only covers half the characters...

looks nice
@waxeagle true

2:27 PM
That reminds me. The diet worked. I'm back into my favorite jeans. YAY!

If I'm honest I can hardly remember what happens in the last few books, because they were actually pretty unmemorable
@Jolenealaska pics or it didn't happen ;)

hehe

@Jolenealaska lucky for you, your favorite jeans are size 50

OOOHH!

hey, it sounds like my kind of diet

2:29 PM
@AJHenderson her sister is a model
that doesn't preclude size 50 jeans, but still - cause for hope ;) :)

what's the difference? :P

She's still a size 0 though.
I've got better skin. YAY! :)

personally, I think there is a point of being too small too

@ElendilTheTall I know, I'm forgetting where a lot of the plot lines currently are. I was thinking Petyr was where he was at the end of book 5 not 3 :|

2:33 PM
I agree. Transparent is not necessarily a good look.

@Jolenealaska tell that to Rihanna
(Google Rihanna CFDA dress - NSFW)
@Jolenealaska you can make casatiello now!

I've got really, really big feet. It's amazing how much grief I have gotten for that.

@Jolenealaska what size?

IYDMMA
@Jolenealaska pa, that's not that big

2:37 PM
My grandpa used to say that I have a very large understanding.
I've never known a woman with bigger feet.

I'm a US size 13
@Jolenealaska my 3 sisters and mother all have that size

Really?

yup
UK size 9
my sisters are all 6', and my mother is 5' 10"
so they need them for balance :)

UK 9 is US 11 according to Google,
I was that in 6th grade.

hmmm, my google say it's US 12
so nur :P

2:41 PM
I wear a men's size 10.5 or 11.

well, I know what they say about guys with big feet.... big socks
what do they say about women with big feet?

I can only get pretty girl's shoes at stores that cater to drag queens.

that is funny and sad at the same time
I actually went 'hahaawwww'

@Jolenealaska ironically, that's the same size as my feet, I couldn't recall the comparison between mens and womens sizes though

2:44 PM
How did I know that was going to get starred?
6!

well, look at it this way - it must save you a fortune in snow shoes <ducks and runs>

I don't lose my balance easily.

may I ask how tall you are?

5'9'
so tall, but not extreme.

well, that's a reasonable height with which to have slightly bigger than average feet I would say

2:50 PM
They look normal. It's weird. Salespeople are always floored when they measure.

tardis feet
my feet would probably be a size smaller except for my 'Greek toe'

Greek?

my second toe is longer than my big toe by a good 1/2"

Mine's that way too!

also called Morton's Toe
Morton's toe (or Morton's Foot, Greek foot, "Royal Toe", "LaMay toe", "Sheppard's Toe", Morton's syndrome, long toe) is the condition of a shortened first metatarsal in relation to the second metatarsal. It is a type of brachymetatarsia. The metatarsal bones behind the toes vary in relative length. For most feet, a smooth curve can be traced through the joints at the bases of the toes. But in Morton's foot, the line has to bend more sharply to go through the base of the big toe, as shown in the diagram. This is because the first metatarsal, behind the big toe, is short compared to the...
do you have knee/hip problems?

2:53 PM
Other than 2 artificial hips?

lol
how about round shoulders?

No LOL, for real.

@Jolenealaska I believe you

Nope, shoulders are normal.

but i assume the artificial hips aren't a result of morton's toe
the reason I ask is that it can cause all sorts of leg and posture problems

2:55 PM
No. Side effect of steroids for MS killed my hips.

it makes the foot pronate and your whole leg and back has to compensate for that
however, the Greeks and Romans considered them beautiful - take a look at the toes of a Greek or Roman statue, they all have them
there's also speculation that they are a Neaderthal trait

@ElendilTheTall interesting...I'll have to pay attention to my hips/knees...

Hmm. I don't think my big 2nd toe was ever an issue, I used to be able to use chopsticks with my feet. I meant to send a video to David Letterman, but never got around to it.

@Jolenealaska send it to the wasabi pea company, they seem to be very open minded ;)
"I BROKE MY TOE EATING YOUR DAMN PEAS WITH MY FEET"
COUGH UP!

heehee

3:04 PM
"Dear Ms. Alaska. On careful consideration of your various cases of injury involving our products, we have concluded that the safest course of action for all involved is to implement a lifetime ban on your purchase or use of said products. We will inform all retailers of this injunction, and contact your bank to arrange a stop on any accounts if attempts are made to buy our products. Thank you and have a nice day."

Oh God I'm laughing so hard...brb...must pee....

haha
there's my good deed for the day

3:18 PM
wow, you must have been laughing hard, that's one epic pee

It was epic, but I'm back.
I'm still laughing though.

Good
It's nice to know I have the capacity to make people laugh on the other side of the planet

Isn't that fun? I love the internet.

though I do remember making a wisecrack in a CVS in New York and the cashier looked at me like I'd walked in and pissed all over the counter

I get that too.

3:21 PM
sarcasm obviously wasn't her strong suit
us shining wits are rarely appreciated in our own time

Sometimes it only matters if we laugh.
I crack myself up frequently.

I try to only use the power for good. Like good bed-head.

Like that. I'm giggling now!

3:25 PM
This makes me howl
it is just so stupid

Yes, quite stupid and cute.

also this

I'd be totally charmed.
I have a soft spot for total nerds.

Why does that make me think of Harry Potter? The "Os" choose the wizard, Mr Potter.

3:38 PM
ha
Also this
I need to find the rest of this, he does an amazing Jack Nicholson bit

WTF?

it's Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee
Here!
the whole thing is brilliant
Alec Baldwin is a genius

Are you a Les Mis fan?

We've discussed this

I don't remember.

3:46 PM
I like to think of it this way
If the sum of all human knowledge was to be wiped from the earth tomorrow, and we had to build it all back up from scratch, at what point would it be necessary to have musical theatre?
;)

Day 3

That's actually one of Sam Harris' arguments against religion
and a damn good one
at what point would it be useful for humanity to know that Jesus was born of a virgin
or any other ridiculous assertion

I can do without religion, musical theater not so much.

Heck, I can say that too :)
Given the choice, I'd happily keep the latter and ditch the former!
However, as the former is unfortunately around for a while, I will stick with avoiding the latter at all costs
I hope that doesn't make you think less of me as a human being :)

Fair enough. I've always loved musical theater. I don't even remember it, but apparently I was in Oliver! as a kid. It started there.

3:53 PM
indeed - we have had this conversation ;)
you have aspirations of playing the inn-keeper's wife, IIRC

No shit? Damn!
Yes. I'd be killer in the role.

so I've been told ;)

I can make my hair do wild stuff!

I think it was 3 straight hours

If I ever get the opportunity, I will audition. I'll get it too.

3:57 PM
I believe you completely

I'll leave them speechless.

I believe you completely

On that note, I should get another couple of hours worth of sleep.

4:04 PM
I having quinoa for dinner tonight
for the first time
twill be interesting

Quinoa! Good stuff.

That should be good.

we shall see

Your wife is pregnant, right?

4:06 PM
I will report my findings to the Proceedings of Seasoned Advice
she is indeed

She'll love it.

ha
we shall see

Have bacon ice cream for dessert.
I'm having that for breakfast, and I'm not even pregnant.

I have made bacon with scrambled egg ice cream before now
delicious

It's on my list to make Avocado ice cream, but I haven't yet.

4:09 PM
why would you want to ruin perfectly good ice cream?
WHY?!

I love avocado!

sigh
you probably eating it while watching Les Mis :P

I admit, its color is unfortunate.

it is bitter, grassy gunk and I detest it
also it makes my OAS flare up so there's that

Bitter? Nah!
OAS?

4:12 PM
Oral allergy syndrome or OAS is a type of food allergy classified by a cluster of allergic reactions in the mouth in response to eating certain (usually fresh) fruits, nuts, and vegetables that typically develops in adult hay fever sufferers. OAS is perhaps the most common food-related allergy in adults. OAS is not a separate food allergy, but rather represents cross-reactivity between distant remnants of tree or weed pollen still found in certain fruits and vegetables. Therefore, OAS is typically only seen in tree and weed allergic patients, and is usually limited to ingestion of only u...

I can't eat pretty much any fresh fruit
which sucks

That would suck. Fruit is awesome.
To my knowledge, I'm not allergic to any food. That combined with the fact that I'll try anything twice makes for fun.

It's only raw fruit and some veg
But it makes healthy snacking tricky

Does freezing fruit help?

4:19 PM
Nope
It's the pollen that causes it apparently

That would bite.

@Jolenealaska there is a place in town that makes Avacado gelato occasionally, it's quite good

I bet it is.
Avocado is a natural for that. So smooth and fatty.

Luscious.

4:27 PM
Bah
Sorry, a sheep seems to have wondered in

Hmm. Mutton.

Hmmn
A bit strong for my taste

Must sleep now. G'night, day, whatever!

gnight

4:52 PM
I checked my email before going back to bed.

@Jolenealaska oh, just chiming in on this situation. I agree completely that we make certain words taboo as a culture for silly reasons and personally have no problem with vulgarity, but the flip side of that is that SE chat is a public place and wants to remain professional and unoffensive, so while it may not be offensive to some, we generally try to keep it balanced with the social views.
it's still a rather subjective measure, but the generally quoted rule for "(d) is libelous, defamatory, abusive, threatening, harassing, hateful, offensive or otherwise violates any law or right of any third party," that part of the TOS is that if an average individual would find it offensive, then it should be removed
practically speaking, that works out to have a little bit of variety across the chat rooms depending on the culture of each room though

Frontline tonight is the 25th anniversary of Tienanmen square. " When FRONTLINE producer Antony Thomas showed the iconic "Tank Man" photo to a group of undergraduates at Beijing University -- which was the nerve center of the 1989 uprising -- none of the students recognized the image."

@Cerberus invalid flags are still a flag internally
I do believe
for users to remove a line as offensive, it has to be flagged by a certain number of users and a certain number more users than say it is invalid
@Jolenealaska and yes, any SE mod (blue text in their name) can perform moderation in any SE chat room. It just doesn't transition from SE to SO chats
and SE mods votes are binding on the flag queue, so if we invalidate, it is immediately invalidated, if we validate, it is immediately validated

Today was the first time I'd ever seen anything flagged here. Not a big deal, just odd to me.
I looked it up. I've used "the f-word" here five times total including today.
Anyway. Good night again.

5:12 PM
@Jolenealaska yeah, I didn't personally see a problem as long as it wasn't regular. Most likely it was users that removed the line though
because most mods would probably have looked at context and removed the suspension

6:00 PM
I'm back! Anyone still here?
Bah!

6:35 PM
Another great improved line, "Take the cannoli"
That was NOT in the script.
