@W5VO & @rdtsc No, not a broken welding machine. It is a machine I made and I need better voltage stability. Due to it being transformer based it fluctuates a little. So I would need a voltage regulator.
It will weld and then after a good 6 inches it appears the voltage tends to drop and the arc will stop and then re-light so to speak again.
It doesn't effect how the weld fuses with the base material. But I would like it to be much more stable if it can be.

50 V at 500 amps is much different than...

230 V at 225 Amp

220V/110V at 200 A

Fat chance a 500 A rated voltage regulator exists

Do you mean you're making the machine? Because it sounds like you're trying to make it fit nearly impossible specs.
Meh, or I'm wrong.
The Gigabyte X58A from 2010 has a 16 phase VRM and each phase's mosfet are spec'd to sustain 35A. So 35*16 = 560 A.

But that's at what... 0.95V?

It's only 25kW... if it was only DC I know that you can get up to that much power with power supplies.
I mean, I was able to quote out to 3 vendors for a 40kW solution... it just depends on what you need. Also was around 20-30k, but who's keeping track of money like that?
