And, if you really discovered that the sines aren't lining up perfectly, then you were measuring the outlets live - which I obviously can't do from here. It would do no good to measure my outlets, since it is your outlets that have to have the proper phase, not mine.

You should still do that experiment I described so that you can understand how split phase works. You still don't seem to grasp what is going on.

I'd say "build it with the intention of testing it only." You'll likely find that it gets too hot and wastes too much power. Then research tracking pre-regulators and switching supplies. Redesign it as a "switcher with tracked regulator" - the best of efficiency and low-ripple output.

It gives me chuckles when one company knocks off another company's IC, and copies the datasheet... typos and all.

@JRE That's how it seems, but that's not how it is. Because I do understand split phase. I wire up MV transformer boxes with split phase, I'm pretty sure I would understand it. Inside those green electrical boxes is a transformer. And in some of those tan electrical boxes are just bus bars and wires. They are color coded for a reason.

Why are the hot wires called "phases?" It isn't just a phrase, it has meaning. That meaning applies directly to why you can't just willy-nilly connect things together.

@JRE Yes they are different realms, but go off of the basis of understanding. Phases is a word that can be used on a lot of things. For the people that understand this type of stuff well or even are experts at it will know exactly what you're talking about. Just analyze the words said for what they are. Don't assume everything. Lots of times people say things that never go off of the strict definition. It's like flexibility but flexibility in words and conversation.

@JRE There's a lot to learn there, and it's a subject everyone will always be learning more in. Whether it's every day or every week. It's an ever growing area where nothing is usually ever the same. Or are based on strict definitions of words.

@JRE Phase or phases in the fluctuating and changing field of electricity can mean several things. But if we were talking about AC home electricity. It usually means the path of where electricity flows from, not to. They are also called several other things such as hot, live, positive int and even phase or phases. These uses of these words do not follow strict definitions.

@JRE So that's when flexibility in words and knowledge comes in handy. Other wise you'll be lost. And people will tell you the same things I'm saying. I wanted to say that these words can be used interchangeably but we would argue about the definition. A lot of words are used incorrectly according to there definition, but we know what it means.

The different lines in your AC system (the various "hot" lines) are called phases because there is a phase difference between the sine wave on each of them.

@JRE And you proved me right. You just gave me a definition. And like I said you and I would argue over the definition. But here's the fact of psychology behind conversations. One or the other party wants to prove a point. I'll just give up on proving my point. But you still seem to want to prove your point.

@JRE It seems as if there's a little bit of narrow minded thinking going on here. There should be more open minded thinking. Trying new things, new ideas and new ways isn't that bad. Too many quoted words are used here to give empty awareness. Empty awareness doesn't help, because it is empty.
