@Kasper Your kit will probably work just fine if you give it 15VDC instead of 15VAC. If it is a simple one using a bridge rectifier, then there's no question it will work. If your kit is a switching regulator of some kind, then it will probably work.
In either case, you need to make sure that your 15V supply can deliver at least as much current as the specified AC source for your kit.

stick it into a car's inside vent
and it holds your phone
 
@AdamUraynar sounds reasonable for anything smaller than an 8cm, but I don't know about the weight.
