@NickAlexeev Very cool. Thank you for sharing.
@NickAlexeev People here often have mixed views. The younger generation does not have any way to compare, but the elderly people I interact with are often very mixed. They like some changes but miss the previous prices and basic quality of life. Also, their jobs were much more stable in the smaller town I live in. You picked a profession and did that for life, did it well, and lived a very good quality family life. Anyway, it is always very interesting to discuss such things with people,
and I am glad they forgive the American asking about the USSR.

Hi there. I need help selecting a PIC Microcontroller (or may be from a different brand) which is 1) Economical 2) Has 12 bit ADC 3) have at least 5 input channels.
Since I did not find a built in 12 bit ADC in PIC (I found 10 Bit), I am hoping to find PIC Mictrocontroller (32bit or 16 bit) which does not have ADC so i can use an external ADC.

have you had a look at their product portfolio charts? there should be plenty with those ADC requirements

There is, but there is no info available on ADC microchip.com/ParamChartSearch/chart.aspx?branchID=1005
I mean I did, but no filter for ADC is available.

I mean their portfolio chart, its a pdf table
also that thing has a filter for adc...

I have not looked into that but wait, the filters for ADC are available on the above mention page, I just needed to scroll to right..

@Dave Or you can use octopart.com/…

9:53 AM
@Zeta.Investigator Thanks for the share. Very helpful
I am actually looking for a modem chip as well (for GSM signal)

one of these weeks where fixing one bug leads to the detection of another...

@PlasmaHH Feel like practising your GoogleFu and seeing if you can find out how to switch the CMU200 back from external screen to internal screen?
I found it a month ago by accident, and forgot to bookmark and now I have no idea where, because I cannot manage it

@Asmyldof blind or do you have the external screen attached?

@PlasmaHH External screen is attached, but I have been through every menu option - AFAIK, as well as the start-up Menu Select (used for SW upgrades) and could not find the right option
I am being a bit ginger with some buttons in some menus as they sound a bit like "irrevertable" things and I don't want to end up accidentally mucking up cal-data

10:34 AM
@Asmyldof ctrl+alt-f3 ?

10:57 AM
@PlasmaHH Is that some universal 2000-s trick I forgot about since I last used BIOS'es, or did you find that somewhere?

@Asmyldof I found that in a newer R&S model manual, and I was hoping for some continuity in their model line

How the hell did you find that so quick!?
And thanks. I'll be back home in a little bit and I'll try it after my fever-nap

well, no idea if it works for that one, but I search for "activate external monitor" rhode schwarz or something like that. everybody will search for that way round or ask in forums or tell you
maybe its too old though and you have to go into the bios (press del at bootup) setup

11:15 AM
There seem to be some other shortcuts specifically mentioned for the cmu200:
Ctr+D DATA Hardkey (Menu Data Save)
Ctr+H HELP Hardkey
Ctr+I INFO Hardkey (Menu HW/SW-Optionen)
Ctr+M MENU SELECT Hardkey
Ctr+P PRINT Kardkey
Ctr+R RESET Hardkey
Ctr+S SETUP Hardkey

Alt+F4 End Programm jump into DOS CLI

Alt+F5 ProtocolTrace
maybe ctrl+s goes into something intresting?
I would also not be surprised if you could switch it using scpi

11:31 AM
@PlasmaHH The Setup hardkey is one of the keys I have been digging through
Those seem to just be VIM-fanatics (like me) shortcuts for doing everything with keyboard
I like protocol trace though
Can you Gchat/mail me the link to the document you found? Seems like a valuable thing to have
If I get them working, feel free to send all your sub 2.7GHz testing stuff to me ;-)
The 1.5GHz Infiniium seems to be working okay, just the encoders on the rotational buttons need fixing
Have to say I'm happier with the CMU200 interfaces though. Infiniium uses Windows98 in stead of hard DOS and it pops up all kinds of nonsense like DST clock adjustment and what not, for which you need a mouse or a keyboard, neither of which are of course USB
Can't use any of the on-device rotational buttons as indication device so far as I know
R&S clearly out-designed HP/Agilent
No dice

without sunlight and not that much bright lights at home, whats the best way to estimate a solar panels max voltage?

10:01 PM
hi
there is a question I have,
when current is flowing through a wire, if the wire is divided into two parallel wires, in once of which there is current source, does the flowing current go through the current source and should we divide the initial current into two currents divided into the parallel wires?

w'ah?

actually, take a circuit which has two parallel branches, with two elements in each. one contains a resistor and other contains a current source
does an external current flow through a current source?!

and Ideal current source has a current of whatever is specified that flows through it

doesn't a current source supply current!?

thats the same

10:15 PM
I mean, other than its own current, if the current of another current source reaches it, should we consider it passing the current source or not?

you can't have two different current sources in series, just as you can not have two different voltage sources in parallel

@PlasmaHH Count the number of cells and multiply by 0.8?

@W5VO hm, 11 cells, so 8.8V ... artifical light gets it here up to 5.5V ... sounds reasonable

@PlasmaHH can you name me a book in which I can read about these elements in circuit? I'm tired of my own book..is not enough for me

@parvin no idea. AOE maybe?

10:19 PM
The Art of Electronics ?

@PlasmaHH and 0.8 is probably for when it gets down to -40 at the equator

@W5VO I take my wife with me and tease her, that gets down to freezing temps in no time

Just make sure that you keep condensation/frost off the surface, and the panel is pointed right at the sun when you go from tropical/desert temps to -40

10:39 PM
Hm, what a sophisticated charge circuit from that solar panel... right to the battery with one diode... that will keep the battery very happey
