@JoshuaAslanSmith disappointed by the grid rules in the DMG :(

I just got my DMG (like, literally 5 minutes ago) don't spoil it for me :P

won't, mine came in the mail today, so I'm thumbing through

The Worldbuilding stuff (which is all I've had time to read) seems pretty good.

2:36 AM
my dissatisfaction is largely driven by wanting something I knew wouldn't be there

Ah, yes.
The only reason I'm not annoyed by the lack of genasi is because I'm pretty sure they'll be in the upcoming Elemental Evil stuff.

Love the planar stuff.

@waxeagle so were the flanking/grid rules just super lackluster I take it?

@JoshuaAslanSmith flanking is OK, less than impressed with AOE logic, we're back to "does the effect area fill half the square"

but seriously
I know people like to make fun of squircles but versimilitude aside they just made sense
okay may you dont like, then just give me a shape replicated by blocks that I can overlay when someone casts the spell

@JoshuaAslanSmith yeah, if I use that rule at home I'll have overlays for commons spell sizes, maybe with pipe cleaners or something, cuz I'm not going to do the math

haha yeah

@Miniman @waxeagle tweeting mearls about continual flame

which question is this re: again?

hoping for a more substantial argument for my answer than "trying to justify continual flame is cheesy as it would be an infinite anti-darkness spell"

Q: Does the Light cantrip cancel out the 2nd level Darkness spell?

KragerThe description of the Darkness spell says: If any of this spell’s area overlaps with an area of light created by a spell of 2nd level or lower, the spell that created the light is dispelled. I take that to mean any existing spells. Does this also negate newly cast spells of 2nd level or lo...

@JoshuaAslanSmith looks to me like it should work
I see no reason not to allow it to illuminate the area

I guess I dont see continual flame's light as "magical light" vs light or daylight

@waxeagle I used to use craft wire for making area templates. Got a bunch of it at the crafts store, it’s basically stiff wire with brightly-colored coating
I didn’t realize it was actually called “craft wire.” I just made that up because I couldn’t remember what it was properly called.

lol
sometimes things just make sense

I found that it worked really well if you twist two strands together. Single strands were a bit flimsy and very difficult to pick up.
Whereas twisted pairs lie flatter, are easy to handle, and look really cool if you use two different colors.
Plus it makes it easier to close the loop.

id probably scavenge some copper cable and use it since it holds form well but is bendable with pliers

Yeah, that would work too. I liked using the light gauge craft stuff because it was easy to make new shapes on the fly when I needed them.
But I could make cool-looking sturdy templates too, with a bit of extra time.

8:23 PM
Today was the DMG release day, yeh?

it was
@JoshuaAslanSmith yeah, absurdly ambitious, and very likely to fail
(though I respect the "make sure we get enough" aspect

yeah
see if all those people who trash talked WOTC and said the product was just fine as it was will put their money where their mouths are
@GraceNote thanks again for everything

Alright, I'll start tallying up then. I'll have the raffle tomorrow.

8:37 PM
awesome thanks!
ok, I think I might have to open up an etsy store
"area of effect markers"
turns up nothing on etsy

Grace Note has added an event to this room's schedule.

2 hours later…
10:25 PM
DMG raffle is at 4am in the morning :(
(Not that I could win anyway, of course)
