@user961352 I've given you write access in here
I see you have no output, but can you show the output of sudo cat /var/log/syslog | grep named ? This will give us more output of the syslog and let us actually see the unfiltered output for BIND9 (called named under the hood) to determine what's up

ken@federation:~$ sudo cat /var/log/syslog | grep named

@kshockk64 oh you've appended them to the existing options
just erase everything in your file and replace it with the data i entered
that's why, you have duplicate lines
sorry i was in a meeting for work :)

@kshockk64 so yay you get your SOA record back :D
so that solves the BIND9 configuration issues
but to make sure
run dig @localhost NS google.com.
just to make sure you get a response ;)

good! So that DNS server is ready to use then.
@kshockk64 i'm not sure if you have access to your router's DHCP configurations or not - if you do, then change its settings to the DNS servers it assigns to your systems on your network oto be the IP address of this server that has BIND9 on it
if not, you'll have to configure the DNS server manually on each system (it differs from system to system) and I included the Ubuntu 22.04 / 24.04 details in my answer
@ThomasWard OK thank you!! I will have to try it later my wife works from home and gets annoyed when I mess up the internet.
no worries. you can ping me in here or comment on your post indicating it's fixed and such. Glad i could help you :)

THANK YOU!!
Just make sure that you accept the post if it helps ultimately get you fully set up, we don't like questions being left marked unaccepted ;)
