Hi. I just came across a couple of posts on meta from 3-4 years back which showed concern about history SE still being in beta. Now, it's 2016, and still we are in beta. I also saw that we used to periodically have "How are we doing?" type posts on meta which led to a healthy discussion. I'm wondering if we should review our progress and policies again on meta.

Actually, do we even have any hope on getting out of beta? We have 5.6 questions on average per day, whereas the ideal condition is 10. We have been in beta for 1709 days. Simple math tells us that we'd need around 30 questions per day for one year, or around 20 per day for two years. Is this even realistic anymore?

If I can dig up the links about this later I'll do so. But basically, "Beta" no longer means anything like "2-years probation". It just means the stack isn't one of the hugely trafficked ones yet.
They've been debating changing the name of the status to reflect that.
That being said, I do still think we have hope of progressing out of what they are currently calling "beta". IIRC, we'd need to be consistently pulling in more than 10 questions a day, plus a lot of other traffic-related metrics. We had a good spurt lately and have been right around that level, but its just a spurt.
But as long as the stack is "healthy", its in no danger of being closed down.
From what I've seen in our stats (that as a mod I have access to), we aren't really doing unprecedented numbers, and its not a noticeable steady long-term up trend either (except in traffic, which does seem to trend up long-term) So this may well be our level. However, whenever we have good months I get excited, because the good months get us sooooo close to the promised land.
