Q: Why was Germany not broken up at the end of WW1

DaveAt the end of WW1 both Austria-Hungary and the Ottoman empire were broken up, but Germany was left intact, apart from some bits of territory given to Denmark, France and Poland. Why did this happen? if Bismark's nation building had been undo, things might have been very different.

@T.E.D. Well, given that meta is now way too much about using quotes for the intent of my question there: I really wonder how long it takes for the "breakup question" on main to draw in disputing comments asking for references?

That question has 4 close votes, so most likely it will just get closed. Kind of sad really, as Peiter's comment at least seems to be going off on the technicalities of the meaning of a word that was used (which really could just be edited if its a problem)

Q: Birthdays in the 1700s, Colonial America

AndrewMy question is about birthdays and if they were celebrated at all in the early 1700s in America? How did the average farming family celebrate birthdays? Or was it something that only the "higher class" celebrated? I've read many articles, but non that seemed to have a concrete definitive answer.
