I would even say that when people talk about LDAP, one should assume they talk about AD's implementation.

Most likely, yes
I will phrase it differently: I've neve done an internal pentest of a company that didn't use Active Directory.
And all the companies that did employ "Linux Desktop" in some way or another did so either via VM or via dedicated machines for specific tasks

Apparently people can get access to /root when they're not supposed to, because of this: cve.mitre.org/cgi-bin/cvename.cgi?name=CVE-2021-33909 Does anyone know how it works?
