5:45 AM
@ConorMancone Wow, what a pleasant guy to be around

8 hours later…
1:26 PM
His name is surprisingly similar to mine... (not that it matters)

2:01 PM
@ConorMancone I wouldn't have made the connection
Anyways, today I was told there is a dating app for Trump followers and I'm eternally sad it's not called "Make Love Great Again"

@MechMK1 lol, that would be a great slogan
It's weird how human beings seem to be so excellent at drawing lines in the sand and dividing ourselves up over arbitrary things...

I mean, politics ultimately boils down to philosophy
Arbitrary, to me, is things like what music you like
But your political convictions, in some way, define what you value in life

Agreed, but a dating app based on a particular presidential candidate seems rather specific to me...

I'm not saying one should only talk to people with identical political views
Well, yes and no. I'm sure people with similar political views are more likely to have a successful long-term relationship than those who don't.
Because similar political views are more likely to be based on similar worldviews, as opposed to radically different political views
But I don't have any statistics for that. It's just a gut feeling

There's absolutely some truth to that. I had my own rule about never dating non-christians. Everything else was negotiable. There's too much though that went to the core of who I was and how I interacted with the rest of the world.
So apparently what I'm really saying is: I also like drawing lines in the sand, but I like to stare quizzically at people who draw different lines than me

2:14 PM
Drawing lines makes sense, in a way
For example, I would never have started dating my gf if she were a smoker
Religion, for example, did not matter to me. I am not a religious person, and a very devout partner would probably have lead to conflict down the line
I mean, I wouldn't mind going to church with my girlfriend for the sake of showing her that I care about her and the things that matter to her, but I would not become religious or pretend to be.

I did marry my wife knowing she was an occasional smoker. And I annoyed her until she almost gave up. And the thing that stopped her: getting pregnant! Cunning, eh? :-)

Anyone have any clever ways of authenticating peripherals? How do you prove that somebody didn't replace your USB-C cable by your night stand with a malicious one when you were away? Or that the USB drive you let your friend borrow is the same one he's giving back? Or is this just taking things too far?
I'd say write your initials, or make a hard to duplicate sticker, but writing can be forged and stickers can be printed/moved.
