@forest not just you - wow

Deleted now, I can't read it :(

@BenoitEsnard part of the post was "I'm high and I realise this is probably a terrible question in so many ways, "
or - just read the screenshot @Anders posted :-)

Must say I appreciate that for once, a crazy question admits to being crazy. They usually start of with "I'm not crazy, but..."

I want to answer "just flood the system with electricity" to all questions now

@BenoitEsnard that is probably the correct answer to most questions

TIL flooding computers with electricity allows one to capture the internet. If the internet is captured for long enough, you can cut antivirus. The more you know...

11:26 AM
We need more creativity.

Doing drugs while pentesting (or programming) seems like a dangerous way to increase creativity.
One guy I know did that and ended up with /* meth ;) */ as a comment all over his repo.

haha
"huh? meth? that's not a method."

11:49 AM
Worst thing I've done when I was in... not the right state of mind, was run iptables -F by mistake on a production server. A whole lot more disruptive than cluttering up a couple source files with drug-induced comments.
I couldn't for the life of me figure out why SSH stopped responding until I re-read the line I just entered like 5 or 6 times. Horrible sinking feeling.
Not as bad as that crap gitlab or whatever did when they nuked the wrong server.

12:02 PM
Do you mean this?

Yeah I think so. They connected to a server to wipe the DB or something but were connected to the wrong server. Scared the shit out of me at the time because they said they didn't know if they even had backups.
> At 2017/01/31 11pm-ish UTC, team-member-1 thinks that perhaps pg_basebackup is refusing to work due to the PostgreSQL data directory being present (despite being empty), decides to remove the directory. After a second or two he notices he ran it on db1.cluster.gitlab.com, instead of db2.cluster.gitlab.com.

It happened to me once too, i was logged in on the wrong ftp server and RM'ed the whole webshop
Last available local backup was worth a week of development
Spent like a day to develop the deleted features

That kind of thing seems to plague sysadmins. Or at least the unfortunate ones.
Why popular filesystems don't support a trivial undelete feature like ZFS has, I will never know. Hell ext4 has an unused dtime so clearly someone thought of it.

12:42 PM
Just flood the system with electricity
The time will go backwards
Files will be undeleted, problems will be solved.

Is that how hackerman hacked time?

Electricity has a cost, so sysadmins do regular backups to save money

well this was like 7 years ago
the company i was doing an internship at did not use any kind of version control
Funny thing that a mere intern could access prod :_)

@StephenKing: Please stop with the nonsense edits.

@StephenKing ^
@TomK. - Have you got links?
The ones I see are absolutely fine - if a little minor

One of those was minor, but okay. The others - I agree. I'd have rejected them too.
@StephenKing - please be aware of the guidance. If an edit is really minor, then it is not worth doing. Just changing a couple of words to bold is generally considered worse than leaving the original.

haven't linked them all :s

1 hour later…
7:22 PM
The first one is silly. The others just seem borderline.

Frankly, the last one seems okay to me
(of the three in a row)

Yeah the third one there looks fine. The second would be fine too if it did a little more (maybe used superscript for the exponents).

"I tested the card and it succeeded the injection test with aircrack suite."
seriously?
the card succeeded the injection test?

Which question?

that's the third one :P

7:32 PM
The one I commented on

of the edits

Well, the editor preserved the author's language

haha
"Comment: cleaned up grammar"

While significantly improving the formatting

He has to flood the card with electricity.

7:34 PM
^

I thought that's only for GPU and CPU

@Arminius come on. It's a half-assed edit which does basically nothing

Nah you can flood anything with electricity if you need to capture the internet.

Still think it's fine

I think flooding with electricity is mutli-platform
sigh

7:39 PM
Honestly I think it's a fine edit too.

I would say it's a fine edit if the comment said "improved formatting"

I don't pay much attention to edit notes unless it's a non-obvious edit

w/ever splitting hairs... it was several edits in a row, all very minor, sometimes nothing changed that led me to the ping
that's all

Yeah, agree it was a good thing to point it out

and look at all his/her questions and answers: security.stackexchange.com/users/164294/stephen-king

At least his profile picture is amusing i.stack.imgur.com/xbrCu.jpg

Wait a second, why does Worldbuilding.SE have LaTeX when even we don't?

mooom, all the other kids have latex and we don't

:(
Even the RPG site has MathJax. Wow.
Commutative diagrams would be so nice.

Re: YouTube situation, we are coordinating with authorities and will provide official information here from Google and YouTube as it becomes available.
Not sure if that's directly related to security
But still wanted to share the news
Active shooter at YouTube HQ. Heard shots and saw people running while at my desk. Now barricaded inside a room with coworkers.

Oh wow.
I mean really guys, if you're gonna go shoot up some company, why YouTube? Why not Oracle? What did YouTube ever do to anyone?
Oh good looks like everyone was evacuated safely.

I've heard YouTube put restrictions about promoting firearms, not sure if that's related to anything though

Well gee, it didn't help them much now did it?

@BenoitEsnard IIRC they did shut down some very pro-gun channel or something.

Well, from an European point of view, the possibility that anyone could have guns sounds very alarming
But I guess it's just culture difference

9:08 PM
It's almost as if criminals are willing to break the law!

9:23 PM
Looks like the shooter was a female who tried to kill her boyfriend or something.
