Woah, Intel has a 8 core/16 threads desktop chip now.
Holy shit, DDR4 support and 40 PCIe lanes on that chip.

1 hour later…
4:25 AM
So, my office has a pool. As in a swimming pool. Outdoor, heated.
That's in addition to the pool tables, ping pong tables, video game arcade, bowling alley, and all the other things everyone knows Google has.

@tylerl Bragging isn't nice. ;)

I'm just surprised. I'd heard about the other stuff. I didn't expect a swimming pool.
Also, laundry. Do they expect us to just bring our dirty clothes to work and do our laundry while we're coding? Apparently plenty of people do because lots of the building have washers and driers.
its a little weird.

4:42 AM
Oh did you join Google?

@ScottPack I've been surprisingly busy this last week.
There's a lot to learn.
and yes,.
I've spent nearly all of every work day in classes taught by other employees.

Yeah, it's pretty intense. Which office are you in?

mountain view

So full experience, killer. Moved away from the desert, eh?

@ScottPack yeah. family is still getting moved, so i'm here on my own for the next week.

4:47 AM
Congratulations.
It seems like a pretty cool place to work. I never got to see the SF while my cousin was still there, but he took us around the Paris office. Even as a visitor it all seemed a bit much to take in.

@ScottPack yeah. it's a bit mind-blowing.

What will you be doing?

working on support for Google Apps -- in particular building tools to make the support people's job easier.
the tech support people, i man.

@ScottPack He's getting us free Google apps accounts. ;)

@TerryChia I've already got mine. :(
Well, I suppose I'm paying $10/yr but that's for the domain registration.

4:54 AM
@ScottPack Ahh, you got grandfathered in?

yeah, if you have been paying any attention at all, you have a free account. I have 5 of them with the old 100-user limit.

@TerryChia Yeah, I got mine a few years ago.

Well, @tylerl will be getting accounts for the rest of us without such luck. :P

That reminds me, I need to check my filing papers. I set up as a fictitious name and I can't remember which year I did that.

So we have a Googler and a guy in Facebook.
Someone needs to go work for Twitter.

4:57 AM
@TerryChia I nominate you.

@TerryChia ooh, ooh, how about not me!
yeah, terry. You go work for twitter.

@DavidFreitag I was actually thinking about @AviD since he likes hashtags so much.

Speaking of...I'm going to bed. It's late for me.

@TerryChia But @AviD already has a new hipster employer.

Oh, and @tylerl. Again, congrats man. Don't freak out and be awesome. :)

5:00 AM
@ScottPack thanks!

@DavidFreitag In half a year maybe. Don't hipsters like to switch jobs often?

@tylerl With any luck we'll get to toast it sometime.

@TerryChia I wouldn't know.

1 hour later…
7:00 AM
@tyler where are our accounts and where is ur ALS ice bucket challenge vid?

7:38 AM
Damn, Borderlands is intense, but I noticed I spend half the time deciding which weapons to keep. Way too many guns LOL

Well, that's pretty much the point of Borderlands. :P

this is normal unless you get a favourite gun
I tend to 'theme' my characters loadouts tho

7:59 AM
I'm still not sure how much elemental effects add to their power. There's what, about 4 elements (corrosive, explosive, incinerating, electrocuting), chance (normal, high, higher, very high) and a multiplier. So I kinda look by their selling price if I'm not sure, and try to read that with other properties of theirs (has scope, firing rate, recoil reduction,...) in mind. It's kinda tricky, there should be some sort of shooting range with dummies or something.
So I carry about two of each kind, one with elemental powers, one without. For some I'd care if they have a scope (more accurate ones), some I wouldn't (shotguns don't really need it, do they?)
At the risk of sounding old, it kinda reminds me of Duke Nukem 3D.

It's been a while, but as far as I recall, elemental effects weren't that big a deal in Borderlands.
They got hella important in Borderlands 2, but the original was pretty balanced.
That said, the price really isn't a good metric. :P

well all the really cool ones have either special abilities or they're expensive in shops. I realize that many factors influence their price, but if I'd have one sniper gun with 360 damage and I can sell for 10k and one sniper gun with 240 damage but also high chance of some elemental effect at a good damage multiplier or some other useful property and I could flog it for 15k then the latter usually is better also in battles.

8:15 AM
So we're laying naked on a bed in a hotel, tired and dizzy. Suddenly, @Kisu says "Every time I see a doughnut I think of @Simon"

@Simon - Infiltrating people's bedrooms since 2001

2 hours later…
10:00 AM
@TildalWave: depends on the enemy - fire is more effective against unarmoured/'naked' enemies, acid works well on armoured enemies, and lightning helps wear out shields faster

1 hour later…
11:20 AM
@FEichinger @Kalina @Marion @RoryM Here you go

@Adnan Was that why you two were tired and dizzy?

aww, you two are cute ;p

@TerryChia Actually we did that like 30 minutes ago
@JourneymanGeek Thanks :D

12:06 PM
@Adnan Nomination not accepted, failed to figure out my name.

2 hours later…
1:51 PM

1 hour later…
3:10 PM
@Adnan LOL, sorry!
@Adnan Well done!

2 hours later…
5:02 PM
@Adnan Cute! You two seem to take a splash of cold water as if it was business as usual. Is there really no way of shocking a Finn with cold? Built-in resistance?
Maybe it should be "ALS hot bucket challenge" for our Scandinavian friends :)

5:35 PM
@LucasKauffman We had a really awesome nerf weekend a couple of month ago. Rented a house and played team capture-the-flag with about 20 players. No automatic weapons though.

4 hours later…
9:28 PM
@FEichinger Don't be a pansy.

Q: Ubuntu: Restore not printed document from browser cache

GalmidoI was at work today faced with a situation where I have to prove that I did not make a mistake. Without going into detail, yesterday I generated an important document which was to be printed. For reasons of organizational oversights, I did not have access to the corporate printer, so the document...

A firefox/chrome forensics question

9:43 PM
@FEichinger Yeah, what @DavidFreitag said. All the cool kids are doing it, and @Simon.

10:17 PM
@Adnan Good job!
@Adnan @kisu marion will get on it real soon now :)
