3:00 PM
@RоryMcCune hahahahaha

@AviD That was intense, I like it.

Someone should start up an open-source project to build a JRE-compatible alternative. Call it Earl Grey, or Cappuccino, or Espresso.

@AviD ...okay....
so is that a yes or a no?

3:22 PM
Hmm, Dropbox has a pretty decent pricing now.
$10/month of 1TB of storage.

@TerryChia I got it

That's actually fairly damn good if you take into account failure rates of HDDs.

@TerryChia not only that, but also the ease of sharing documents

@LucasKauffman Yeah.
Hmm, $99/year so you get a slight discount.

3:37 PM
About 17%, no?

hey @AviD if you want a fast password crack demo just use google for the cracking webbreacher.blogspot.co.uk/2014/08/…

@TerryChia still seems kinda pricey, given all the extra features their competitors offer for quite a bit less.

@AviD What competitors? What extra features? What's "quite a bit less"?

@TerryChia well since I figure you expect it anyway, I'll start with OneDrive:
with a fuller feature set, ofc

offce365 is even better office.microsoft.com/en-gb/…
full offline/online office suite + 1TB of storage

3:42 PM
office365lolololololol

@RоryMcCune oo you ninja'd
@Simon macfanboi lolololololol

@AviD Can I sync files across my Linux desktop, my Macbook, my iPhone and my Android tablet?

@AviD *nixfanboi lolololol

@TerryChia yes

@AviD Really? Sweet. Native clients for each?

@AviD But I speak en-ca
AND THEY'RE USING JQUERY ON THEIR WEBSITE OMG

really not a fanboi here, but objectively it really is the best deal, most complete, barely missing any features others have.

@AviD well no official Linux client but there are Linux clients available AFAIK

They're definitely a professional company.

EXCEPT that its not non-MS.
@RоryMcCune oh yeah, true. there is android and Mac though.

3:45 PM
@AviD There really is nothing to fanboi about when it comes to storage.

@TerryChia well thats just it - its not just storage, is it.

I have not seen anything that works as well as Dropbox when it comes to syncing, so any nice alternatives welcomed.

@AviD No, it's also a philosophy

some people legitimately dont like the UI for Office 360

EMBRACE THE #YOLO

3:46 PM
@TerryChia I am using onedrive on my myriad W8 VMs, W7 laptop, WP8 phone, and #ShinyMac laptop.

@AviD Well, I don't care about those extra bits actually. I just want something to sync files across devices.

and it works really beautifully.

W8 VMs, sounds like good times.

@AviD I don't want to download the client now, how seamless is syncing? Is it as easy as dragging a file into a folder like dropbox?
On OS X and Windows of course.

sure
okay one big drawback: it all has to be in one (specific but movable) folder tree.

3:49 PM
@AviD That's how Dropbox does it as well so not a problem.

you can select which parts to sync where, but it all needs to be under there.

Hmm, that's pretty damn cheap. They even got Google beat. support.google.com/drive/answer/2375123?hl=en

the web UI is also very usable, even when it comes to open permissions and such.
@TerryChia oh I was looking for that, couldnt find it.

@AviD The Google Drive pricing was why I was skeptical when you mentioned "quite a bit less".
Because Google's pricing is competitive with Dropbox.

@TerryChia pricing yes, but they too give you a hella lot more for it.
(more than dropbox).

3:52 PM
@AviD Do they? You get the rest of the stuff free. You only pay for storage.

How much space do you really need on (I'm gonna use that word even though I hate it) cloud?

@TerryChia exactly.

@AviD That's not really an argument though. I can use Dropbox for file storage and Google's cloud stuff. Nothing is locking me into only using one.

integration FTW.
though yeah, I am hopping back and forth between these different services all the time.

Grasshopper.
Does your wife know?

3:54 PM
@AviD Looks like MS is really serious about competing in cloud services huh?
Really competitive prices on onedrive and azure.

heh. That is one area I find amusing, because they've been ahead for so long, but really dont get recognition.
they had "Google Drive" for several years before Google made a lot of noise, and introduced an offering that was inferior to MS' product at the time.
but all the media was like "oo yaaaay finally online storage" derp.

@AviD Maybe they need better marketing.

Then they need to advertise their services more.
^

which is really ironic.
I think the marketing back then did not focus on cloudy stuff, just on cashcows (Windows+Office).
the "now they are serious" part is not the offerings, its the marketing.

@AviD Aye. And that's really the stuff that doesn't need marketing to sell.

3:59 PM
It is interesting though. The CEO - formerly sales/marketing guy - sets the tone using the parts he finds interesting, i.e. the fact that they were investing in building the product back then means nothing to "taking it seriously", until the marketing is on board.

i lub blink-182

now that the CEO is an ex-techie, I imagine it will reverse (eventually).
i.e. "taking seriously" can be judged by product investment, not marketing.

@AviD Honestly? MS is on the right track. Especially when it comes to catering for developers.
BizSpark, Azure, excellent development environment.

I agree.

HELP I'M SURROUNDED BY WINDOWS PREACHERS

4:00 PM
Especially since you can host Linux on Azure now.

well the developers part was always there, but now they are bringing the rest up to speed. Finally.

Sweaty

As an aside, I wonder how many large web companies have their stack primarily on Windows. Stack Exchange is the only one I know about.

was about to say Trello, but they were a non-MS anomaly.

@AviD Well, Trello has Joel. :P
Just like SE does.
Oh wait, Trello is JS isn't it?

4:04 PM
yeah, thats what I was saying - its actually NOT ms, even though the rest of the company is - was - MS based.
"right tool for the job"

@AviD Well, fogcreek makes products.
I was more wondering about the webapp sort of things.

@TerryChia and cloudy
I could be mistaken, but I think Atlassian is MS based.

Imo, if there are many companies like SE using MS products MS should market it more.

would be a good Quora question though.
@TerryChia I think you hang out in the wrong crowds.

@AviD That would involve actually signing up and using Quora.
@AviD Probably...
Heh.

4:13 PM
Women are evil, which is proven in this picture.

I like how no one has replied to anything @Simon said in the last 30 minutes.
2

I wouldn't even reply to myself.

4:30 PM
#Simon

4:44 PM
@Simon What's wrong with Windows?

@DavidFreitag dont get him started, he might actually attempt to answer that

@DavidFreitag It freezes, automatically restarts to update by default, the UI sucks balls, it takes years to kill a frozen process.
@AviD YEAH.

@Simon I'm curious if you've even used a Windows machine in this decade.

Which is funny because for the first time in a while I'm on Linux right now.

@AviD Every single weekday.

4:51 PM
lube 13.10, to be exact.

Also, did you ever try to dual boot on UEFI?
Fucking. Nightmare.

I triple booted on UEFI.
@Simon You just have to learn how to put windows int its place

@DavidFreitag Uninstalled?

Haters gonna hate.

@Simon On GPT

4:58 PM
@DavidFreitag So you were not using Grub?

@Simon Grub 2 supports GPT

I see.

Silly donut using Grub legacy.

lulz

5:25 PM
Maaaaaaaaaaaaan this whole five hour gap between classes is seriously boring.

@DavidFreitag You kidding, right? Go hunt da ladies.

@Simon It's the fall semester, the only 'ladies' around here are fresh out of high school. I'd rather shoot myself in... any random location, really.

@DavidFreitag Oh I feel ya, young ladies tend to be annoying as hell.

@Simon It's not even the young part, they're just so immature. It's because of them that the fall semester is mostly morning classes and the campus is crowded as shit.

They're just way too loud most of the times.

5:33 PM
@AviD not very articulate...
I hadn't seen this before. Wondering where the data comes from. Looks cool though: map.ipviking.com

@TerryChia They make good hardware. They shouldn't have tried to get into the software business.

5:52 PM
Ok chrome is derping up ... why is every webpage crashing o.O
Okay chroem does not like more than 2 seperate windows open .... weeiiiird

god damn the wifi in this place sucks

@DavidFreitag It's a sign that you gotta go meet some peeps.

6:07 PM
@Simon No, more people will only exacerbate the issue.

wat

There are no wireless routers in the school, only a billion access points using very low broadcast power (so he range is about twenty feet, and yes there is an access point every fifty feet or so) and they are all broadcasting on the same channel.

The point of meeting people is to not use the access points you donut.

Basically, only one person every fifty feet gets good internet, the rest of the people get shafted
@Simon I know people, people are boring. I'd rather just sit here in my quiet conference room and program.

@DavidFreitag Sounds like you only know boring people.

6:11 PM
@Simon well i do know your mom

My poor mom.

Q: Theft from phone

AndrewI am an electrician and working on site my colleague managed to get my password to my phone and has gone through my phone and stolen sexual pictures of my girl friend . Sending pics from my phone to his . He has gone around site showing people and what ever else . I don't know how I can prove it ...

lolololololol the fuck?

@Simon How about shoot your friend in the face and take his phone.

@DavidFreitag Yeah, that dude sounds like the biggest pussy ever.

@Simon If it is a dude.

"My girlfriend" + Andrew

@Simon What, so only dudes can date girls? Sexist pig.

6:59 PM
ANDREW

You really think that's this person's real name?

Oh for fucks sake. IT'S 2 CHICKS, ALRIGHT?

Giggity.

facedesks

I think the people around me are having an effect. I think I need to shoot myself soon.

7:18 PM
@Simon There had better not be a cup involved.

@Iszi Please no.

7:31 PM
@Iszi Oh god why

@DavidFreitag Because misery loves company.

8:14 PM
And donuts love me.

8:41 PM
@Simon Not the first guy to ask questions about stolen dirty pictures.

@Xander How many flags you donut?

@Simon Do I have? 444. None open/active.

Bleh.
I'm at 427.

@Xander where's your clip?
I'm disapoint.

^

8:43 PM
@Simon You're actually catching me up.
@LucasKauffman Not done yet. Sorry for the disappoint. That's what I'm really best at. It'll come sooner or later. The weekend at the latest.
@Simon I think you've added 15 or so since we last discussed, I don't think I've added 10.

@Xander Yeah I've been flagging quite a bit.

so I was at the pub with some colleagues:

"Image Not Found" is a cool pub name.

@Simon you can't see that?

"No #yolo" is dumb as nobs.
I can now.

Q: Wordpress Brute Force Attacker knows Admin Username -

rm-vandaI've noticed a brute force attempt on several different Wordpress installs that know the right admin user name for those respective sites... It seems very strange that the hacker would be able to find the username but not the password... Furthermore, I've checked these Wordpress builds, and I ...

Isn't this as broad as a woman's closet?

8:57 PM
@Simon Not really. It seems to be specific to an apparent WordPress information disclosure issue that is leaking the/an admin username.

i wuznt sure meng

@Simon Looks like it's probably this: wordpress.org/support/topic/wordpress-username-exposed

WordPress is for donuts anyway.

@Simon hey now, them be fighten words

@AJHenderson Well, it's kind of true. Not to say that I don't use/recommend WordPress, because I do, but only because the alternatives are worse. It is written in PHP, so it's got 2-1/2 strikes against it to start.

9:32 PM
Anyone know if there's an answer for this, or are non-native/built-in tools the only solution?

Q: Windows-native commands to monitor remote port for service availability

Iszi Similar Question: How to tell if Remote Desktop service is running and available? I've searched around for answers to the problem of "How do I ping a specific port?" and found several solutions. Even before searching, I was well aware that "ping" is not even remotely the proper tool for th...

9:46 PM
@RoryAlsop but he gets his point across.
