1:00 PM
@Adnan :3 !

You know whom I don't like? Non-native English speakers who have very heavy accent, but they're completely unaware of it and they speak so fast with their heavy accent
I've experienced it so far with an Indian lady, two German guys, and one Dutch guy

JADASSECURITYCONFERENCEISEXXZEPTIONALLYINTRESTING
...pardon?
right, if I'm reading these designs correctly, all I need is 1.21 gigawatts of power

1:16 PM
@TerryChia HELLO
I got +1 on one of my answers yesterday, I'm back in business bitches.
2k rep by 2015? NOPE.

@Simon I can see that happening

@Adnan Who's the ubernerd with a frog?

@ScottPack it's a lizard

@ScottPack Hahaha

@Simon I dunno man - I finally hit 1k.

1:21 PM
@Adnan Meh, maybe if I start answering questions.

@kalina There's one of those that drives around my neighborhood. The audio track is frequency adjusted to account for the Doppler effect. So the music sounds normal as it approaches you then gets really fucking creepy when it passes by.
@kalina Shitty picture, hard to tell.

@Simon You need less than 15

@kalina That may or may not be a trivial issue. Depends on what voltage you need. You'd need to absolutely max out a standard 13A socket for almost an entire week straight to get that kind of power.

@ScottPack Wanted to take out my camera, but everybody has been scaring me about the level of crimes in the UK

@DavidFreitag I figured I'd just use a bolt of lightning
I'm pretty sure I can drive down a street and hit a wire at the exact moment lightning strikes

1:22 PM
@kalina If you could bottle it up without melting things that might work.

@Adnan I don't really think of the UK as crime riddin.

@ScottPack Maaan, every 30 seconds I see police. Either cars, or on bikes, or walking

@Adnan yeah you're in a big city

I wanted to leave my laptop IN THE UNIVERSITY to go get lunch, but some lady told me that I'll very likely not see it when I'm back

Why on earth would you leave your laptop to get lunch?

1:25 PM
so he doesn't have to carry it around

@DavidFreitag Because I don't need my laptop to eat

yes you do

Well you won't need to worry since you won't ever be carrying that laptop again if you try that.

@DavidFreitag But in Finland, I can leave my laptop in School and go skydive and when I'm back it'll be there
I've done it many times (minus the skydiving)

@Adnan I don't trust anyone.

1:27 PM
@DavidFreitag Do you walk down the street with your mobile in your pocket?

@DavidFreitag You will do great in infosec.

@Adnan I wouldn't leave anything unguarded in a place where you don't know every single person who passes there.

@Adnan No

@DavidFreitag So you don't carry your mobile?

But that's only because I don't walk anywhere

1:28 PM
Man, I wouldn't even leave my Mac on a table to go take a piss

@DavidFreitag So you don't use your legs?

In a public area, that is.

@Simon yeah I don't even understand why he's surprised by any of this

@Adnan Other than to walk from my car to my destination for the most part

Wow! Even in Syria, if you're in a cafe and you go take a piss, you leave your laptop, mobile, and camera, and nobody will touch them
@DavidFreitag That's... a bit sad

1:29 PM
@Adnan Kind of like being in Paris.
@Adnan Where are you talking about leaving it?

@ScottPack kinda like being in any big city

@ScottPack Inside the University, inside a lab room

@kalina Some cities are worse than others, but generally yeah.

an unlocked, unsupervised lab with no CCTV most likely except for the halls

@Adnan Locked lab? Free access?

1:30 PM
sounds like basically dumping your laptop in the middle of a park and hoping for the best

@Adnan Yeah I know.

@ScottPack The whole university is free access

@Adnan When I worked for the university we were basically the computer crimes division of the police.

@Adnan would you leave your laptop alone in a train station?

I really thought that when it comes to safety, UK wouldn't be very different from Finland

1:31 PM
@Adnan About once a week we'd get a message from them telling us about a stolen iPhone, iPad, or laptop. Towards the end of the school year is was usually at least 1 per day.

@Adnan no, Finland is pretty unique

@kalina In Finland, yes.

@kalina That's hardly an even comparison. A train station is literally designed to facilitate the speedy flow of crowds of people.

@ScottPack Wow

@Adnan right, well, you're not in Finland anymore Dorothy
@DavidFreitag open area that is open to through traffic
seems like a valid comparison

1:32 PM
@Adnan Almost always in the library but occasionally someone would set their phone down someplace and walk away.

I understand that the world is cruel and everybody is an asshole. I just thought that the UK is at least somewhat similar to Finland in that aspect

@kalina Depends on the lab environment. Where I go the labs are buried in the campus and no one that doesn't belong there doesn't hang about.

@Adnan There's also a big difference between petty theft and actual danger.

@DavidFreitag Double negatives are fun!

@FEichinger Shaddup

1:33 PM
@FEichinger you mentioned it before the edit timeout

@kalina Couldn't be bothered

God damn it! I feel like slapping the Indian lady
5
Just slow the fuck down!

@kalina >.>

@DavidFreitag you must care, the double negative makes me right
!

@Adnan That's racist.
2

1:34 PM
@Adnan Is that a euphemism?
2

@Adnan I'm typically more concerned about pickpockets than I am muggings. So taking out my camera doesn't really bother me, but having my pockets turned out or leaving my camera on a table while I go do something else would.

@kalina Nope, it was a pointless argument anyway

@DavidFreitag all arguments with me are pointless
it's just passing the time

@TerryChia I'd slap her whether she's Indian, Syrian, Finnish, or whatever
@DavidFreitag Nope

@Adnan Much better.

1:35 PM
@Adnan Sexist?

@DavidFreitag Or a dude

@DavidFreitag Hehe.

or an elephant

@Adnan Speciesist?

or a cow

1:36 PM
Dammit.

What about a Canadian?

ableist?

Oh MY GOD!

ageist?

@Simon Oh, it appears as though I slapped you into last Tuesday. Sorey aboot that.

1:36 PM
atheist?

Now it's a Spanish dude

@ScottPack ^_^

aboot

@Adnan What - is someone walking slowly in front of you or something?

hey Simon, how ya doing eh?

1:37 PM
@DavidFreitag The Spanish don't walk, they saunter.

@DavidFreitag People with heavy accents speaking so fast!

@kalina Doin' hella fine, how aboot ya?

Very heavy

@Adnan It's your own fault for not asking them politely to slow down.

@Simon I'm doing good, eh? How aboot this weather eh?

1:38 PM
@DavidFreitag Oh I did
(@David I don't keep things untold/unsaid)

@kalina The sun is shining, eh.
DA BIRDS ARE DANCIN'

Pardon me my good chap. I 'm painfully embarrassed to say but I can't help but notice you have a rather distracting accent and I would greatly appreciate it if you could SLOW THE FUCK DOWN YOU GODDAMN TOSSER.
6

The lady got so offended because I said she has a heavy accent

Is that how a Brit would say it?

I mean, that's nothing offensive. I have an apparent accent, but many people have agreed that it's not distracting and they can understand it

1:39 PM
@Adnan She probably thought you were calling her fat in some way.

@DavidFreitag She is :(

@DavidFreitag I'm not fat.
Please stop.

@ScottPack Hello kind sir, would you mind slowly down as I am mentally impaired and struggling to maintain pace with you?
Suddenly, they'll speak really slowly and loudly
as to not offend you
or, stab you in the face

@kalina Knowing you that might just work.

@kalina That sounds sufficiently self-deprecating enough. I'll go with it.

1:41 PM
WHATEVER YOU DO

I think aboot 7 people came in at work today, it sounds like it's time for a dance party.

do not try and bond with an English man by talking about the world cup

The designated topic is "Code Review Guidelines". 40 minutes in, nothing on that

ESPECIALLY do not mention that England are out
that's basically asking to be glassed

We're just talking about the best way to publish books

1:41 PM
@kalina What about not mentioning the stupid thing at all?

@kalina Hrmph.

I got some filthy looks walking through Nottingham screaming allez les bleus

@Adnan Isn't that a metaphor for OWASP at this point?

ALLEZ LES BLEUS HAHA

@kalina Kinda like trying to bond with one of them women folk and bringing up their age or weight.

1:43 PM
@kalina ಠ_ಠ

@kalina Glassed?

@kalina What's the difference between England and a tea bag?

@ScottPack Somebody breaking a bottle and stabbing you in the face with the broken parts
Basically
@TerryChia You wouldn't piss on a teabag?

@Adnan I'd assume that the bottle is broken by smashing it on your head for good measure?

@Adnan The correct answer was "a teabag stays in the cup longer" but yeah that works as well.

1:45 PM
@Arperum Or on a conveniently placed bar table

Does anyone own the Nexus 5? I'm probably gonna get it.

@Adnan Because the person who is getting glassed is expected to have a weak skull that would break before the glass breaks?

@Simon I do

@TerryChia haha

You people are violent.

1:46 PM
Love it to bits

@DavidFreitag Satisfied?
Goood!

@TerryChia ಠ_ಠ

@Simon Extremely

@Simon HTC ONE M8
much better phone

@kalina Isn't that worth twice as much as the Nexus?

1:46 PM
and no I'm not calling you a m8
that's the model number

Snapdragon 800 pro will smash anything else to bits

@Simon it's twice the phone as the nexus...

Wasn't the N5 release a while ago? Won't a newer one be out soon?

@DavidFreitag Yeah, the chip is quite badass.
@kalina I highly doubt that.

@TerryChia probably august/september time right?
that's when they usually release

1:47 PM
@DavidFreitag Apple A7.

Although it's blatant lack of optimization means it's not nearly as good as it could be.

@Simon HTC One M8 is this years phone, Nexus 5 is 2012's phone

@kalina Seems like it yeah.

@TerryChia Yeah that might be true. Except we'll never know because a bunch of shitty software gets thrown on top and ruins the whole bit.

@kalina I think I can manage to be happy with it anyway, I'm using a S2.
"The Nexus 5 was initially released for ordering at Google Play Store on 31 October 2013, in 16 GB and 32 GB versions"

1:49 PM
@kalina Uhhh no? Snapdragon 800 was announced in Feb. of 2013...
It's so good that Amazon's new phone even has it.

@DavidFreitag Yeah, Android sucks real bad. ;)

terry da k00l kid

@TerryChia It's at least usable. I'd rather not be put in handcuffs in order to use my device

Seriously, I'd take a WP device over Android now.

@DavidFreitag "amazon phone" and "good", you're so funny

1:52 PM
@TerryChia What the fuck are you taking? Cocaine?

@TerryChia I'm expecting to justify that claim

@DavidFreitag Hahahahaha! Oh wait, you weren't kidding.

@kalina Yeah i got to use the Fire it's a POS. But that's only because of Amazon's software is pretty much goal oriented to fill your amazon cart

@TerryChia What is your problem with Android?

Look at how cocky he is. I bet @TerryChia doesn't talk to a girl unless she understands binary.

1:53 PM
Anyone choosing an Android device because it's "more open" is kidding themselves, all mobile devices have lock-in.

@Simon he's chatted to me before and I don't understand binary

They just lock you in in different ways.

@kalina Talk != chat

@TerryChia I don't. I choose it because when I use it I don't have the overwhelming urge to melt it into oblivion with a large bag of thermite.

here I was hoping we were about to have an intelligent conversation about device fragmentation
instead, he talks about lock in

1:54 PM
@kalina hehe srsly.

of course every device has its own lock in but it's more of an emotional lock in
it's the same lock in that MMOs have: once you've bought into an ecosystem, leaving means repurchasing everything in the next one
that doesn't make the platform less "open"

@kalina That was in response to @DavidFreitag's claim about "not be put in handcuffs in order to use my device"

because you're talking about psychology

The day Apple comes out with a non-developer marketed phone that has an unlockable bootloader I will eat my words.

@DavidFreitag I kinda like the walled garden curated app thing

1:56 PM
I didn't mean to start a smartphone war, I'm sorry.

I think it works really well and reaches Apple's end goal of providing end to end easy to use intuitive software and hardware that "just work" with a minimum of fuss
sure, "power users" don't like it, but they need to suck it up and simply go elsewhere rather than ruin such a system that helps technologically illiterate people use technology

@TerryChia Ok, now that you've addressed that little tidbit, please continue.

@kalina What DAW do you use?

@Simon I love smartphone wars because I like all three major operating systems :P
@Simon depends what I'm doing
in general? Cubase
writing stuff down quickly on a tablet? FL Studio for Android

I see.
Oh, nice.

1:58 PM
@kalina My main problem with Android is that it requires a device with quad core CPUs and 2GB RAM to be usable. At least WP devices run smoothly. And yes, fragmentation is terrible.

writing stuff down quickly on my old knackered laptop? FL Studio for Windows
@TerryChia Windows Phone is a second generation product

Can you convert FL projects to Cubase or vice-versa?

it hasn't had time to bloat yet
@Simon no

Or you simply write down the melody and then translate it in the other DAW?

@Simon but you can export FL stuff as midi and it will import as separate labelled channels in cubase

1:59 PM
Ah, cool.

@TerryChia The only real problem I see with Android is their inability to keep users on compatible versions

@TerryChia I've used many more iOS devices than I'd like to admit. Not one single one of them was as smooth as my Nexus 5.

everything else stems from that
