Q: What do scriptures say about eating unknown vegetables?

Carmen sandiegoI understood from Manusmriti 5.5 that following veggies are to be avoided Garlic, leeks and onions, mushrooms and all that proceeds from impure things, are unfit to re eaten by twice-born men.—(5). But what about vegetables that were introduced to India in recent past - e.g. Potatoes When it co...

Q: Does dharma and adharma applicable to a Jivan Muktha?`

hanugmIt is well known that a person who is not a Jivan Muktha is bounded by Dharma and Adharma. That is, one needs to do dharma only as per scriptures. What about a person who achieved a Jivan Muktha state. Is Dharma and Adharma are still applicable to that person?

@Carmensandiego Well done!

@TheLittleNaruto okay. What are you bountying?😂

@Archit hehe! Just some deserving questions which are needed to be answered

Suresh KumarI have read lots of references about lord varaha but I wanna know the actual truth. From where and whom did lord varaha came from? In which timeline? What happened after? Is he mentioned in Vedas?

Q: Where all, in Hinduism, can we find connection with modern scientific ideas?

Akshay knHinduism, in my knowledge, has a lot of philosophical ideas that staggeringly matches modern science. I've heard (in various stories, which i don't remember) some mentions of infinity (Lord Shiva's lifeline), anti-gravity (pushpak viman), thermodynamics, quantum theories, etc. Anyone know real so...

@RamAbloh Congratulations for the noteworthy mention in monthly award. :)
Welcome to Hinduism chatroom @Panibotal :)
Interesting username.

hahhah

@Panibotal Interesting! @RamAbloh you got a fan boy here on HSE. :-)
@Panibotal Nice! I bought many pani bottles during my stay in Lucknow.
;-D
Btw which all texts of Dharma have you read ? @Panibotal

6:14 PM
actually i got intrested in scriptures and dharma questions , because of rami sivan,ramabloh and kiron krishnan on quora. HSE is dope!! everyone of you is awesomeeee

Thank you for the kind words. :-)

im 19 yo and started reading after my 12th exams last year. i remember the sundarakand of ramcharitmanas and have read sundara and yudha kand of VR

Dope 😂😂
@Panibotal Ramayana ❣
@TheLittleNaruto work?
@TheLittleNaruto 😂😂😂
@TheLittleNaruto November 1st
Today I didn’t study anything at all feels really guilty
@Panibotal which college?

@Archit Naah! It's just out of interest solving problems related to coding.

Achha

6:19 PM
@Panibotal superb!

Did they teach you Java in school/college?

My favourite itihasa is Ramayana. However I read it in my text book in primary.
@Archit Yeah in college they do.

Before HSE, I didn't believed in this shambuka kand etc. H
came across one article by dr ambedkar. Scary

Well i would avoid reading his version of ramayana
It was all because of outrage he wrote everything like that.
(Outrage for the bad treatment to the lower class from so called higher class.)

@TheLittleNaruto nice even I’ve learnt 0.1% java
@TheLittleNaruto agree

6:26 PM
Actually in 50s he went to adi dharma, to make dalits converted to it, however they rejected him because he burned manu in 35 so..... He sort of got pissed and....

@Panibotal <no swear word please.> :-)

@TheLittleNaruto actually what ambedkar intended never happened to India, but many other good things did. As of what few UPSC aspirants told me, hindu code bill of ambedkar was good. Tho they don't believe he was anti hindu

@Panibotal About manu smriti, it has many interpolations. And many Brahmins would have blindly believed it in those days.
@Panibotal what does that bill say?

@TheLittleNaruto How does manu has interpolations? I mean it was taught in gurukuls, since hundreds of years. How could they change it?

@Panibotal Well why not? Many things got added later in almost every texts.

6:31 PM
Britishers and invaders destroyed many manuscripts

We have different sects with different choice of god's
And then caste system
@Archit another reason

@TheLittleNaruto as of what we follow today, single marriage in Hinduism etc. I've read many of his articles, and as of what priests like @ramisivan said, Dr. Ambedkars interpretation of buddhism is somewhat a bit over top.

@Panibotal that's the worst thing he introduced in Hind bill

@TheLittleNaruto @Archit So the uttarkand interpolation theory is true?

A person with basic understanding of ashrama would understand why it is worst bill
@Panibotal Yeah possible.

6:37 PM
@TheLittleNaruto that's interesting. However as of what Arya samaj says about interpolation is I suppose a bit exaggerated.(few yt channels like thanks bharat etc). They just mark it as an interpolation what they don't understand, for ex: draupadi marrying all pandavs is an interpolation, maa sitas agni pariksha is an interpolation etc.

@Panibotal I believe so but wait there are some answers in the site I’ll try to find and show you - different views
@TheLittleNaruto ?

@TheLittleNaruto what was the reason that manu, VR got interpolated? As in different sects, schools would have had an original copy. How could what's today available is only interpolation?

@Archit about that hindu bill introduced by Ambedkar was wrong.
@Panibotal damage in text of Dharma had been a slow process since the time of Pauranik era to this day.

A: Why did Sri Rama banish Lady Sita when he was a witness of her fire-test himself?

srimannarayana k vUTTARA KANDA is a PRAKSHIPTA - an insertion made at a later date. As the episode of banishment of Sita finds place in this Kanda, it has to be rejected. In view of the following contradictions in the UTTARA KANDA, I think the entire Uttara Kanda is a PRAKSHIPTA, an insertion made at a latter dat...

@TheLittleNaruto what was the bill?

@Archit No polygamy for just "Hindu" as per Indian constitution.

6:43 PM
Also I was reading shankaradigvijaya these days. I'm Somewhere near madana mishra debate. Have you read Adi "Shankaracharya: Hinduism's Greatest Thinker
Book by Pavan K Varma". Shashi tharoors review said it was good and showed how todays hinduism by BJP-rss is narrow minded, I avoided reading it because I suppose it had some of this political stuff, which I suppose shouldn't be attached to dharma

A: Is the Uttara Kanda of the Srimad Valmiki Ramayana interpolated?

Suresh RamaswamyThe answer can be both 'yes' and 'no'. The jury of scholars is still out, how can I student take it upon myself to answer the query. However, by logically analyzing the evidence presented by both schools, the answer tends towards "Yes. Uttara Kaanda is a later interpolation." Based on the prime...

@Panibotal yes that's correct! We shouldn't.

@Archit I'd asked this question too hinduism.stackexchange.com/a/40693/18537

@Panibotal oh

Namaste @Panibotal @Archit @TheLittleNaruto appreciate the kind words :)

6:45 PM
@TheLittleNaruto all you know who’s would be allowed
@RamAbloh hey what about @archit 😭
Yayyy!!!😂

Haha, sorry, @Archit edited...

@Archit We shouldn't compare with others. But we must understand why it was a wrong addition.

Although I'm a noob, I was going to write an article answering dr. Ambedkar's riddle of ram-krishna. However later I thought that not everyone is supposed to know everything, maybe if this work is not known, we should let it be like that

@RamAbloh yayyy!!

@RamAbloh Namaskar 🙏
@Panibotal Man! You said it right.

6:47 PM
@TheLittleNaruto _/|_

People take time to understand this secret.

@TheLittleNaruto because India is secular correct? And prevent love jihad stuff?

Too bad I can't recreate the namaste emoji :(

@Panibotal ??

@Archit Naah! Do you know the first ashrama is brahmacharya?
@RamAbloh did you install the plugin?

6:48 PM
Ya

I need to get the plugin

@TheLittleNaruto I sort of got inspired by it from Gita 9.1 (krishna says I'm going to reveal you the SECRET knowledge)

@Archit During brahmcharya (that is before marriage) one is not allowed to waste their virya.

Oh okay and?

Here's the link of ambedkar's article tho

6:50 PM
@TheLittleNaruto On other sites, the backslash stays, but here it is an escape character

@RamAbloh yeah true that.
@Archit after marriage, they need to use virya for reproduction...

LOL I followed brahmacharya after NNN(no nut November) .

Following brahmacharya for these many years will sure make their virya powerful
And during grihasth ashram, it should be used and not wasted.
I may not be able to explain clearly, but sure polygamy would help here at least for the person who followed brahmacharya
@Panibotal what is that NNN ? Heard first time.

Also is bhagwata purana a high authority text in Hinduism/vaishnavism? Ramisivan said it's not, only for isckon.

@Panibotal Sorry I didn't understand. May be because I am not a fan of ISCKON. ☹️
@Panibotal well done! And keep it up until you get married :-)

Q: The new moderator agreement is now live for moderators to accept across the network

CatijaToday we’re announcing that the new moderator agreement is live and the existing moderators are being asked to accept it. This has been a great collaboration to get from a draft in November 2019 to the final agreement in July 2020. It’s gone through several phases of review internally, including ...

@TheLittleNaruto curious why not fan of Iskcon :)

He's strong critic/hater of devdutt pattanaik, tho some of my friends read him a lot.

@RamAbloh it would make a heated discussion. So I would better avoid.
@Panibotal avoid that pattanaik guy too. He ain't good.

7:01 PM
@TheLittleNaruto Don't worry, I'm neutral towards Iskcon so I'm not emotionally attached to it :)
@TheLittleNaruto I'm always interested in hearing all viewpoints

@TheLittleNaruto tho I'm no one in front of y'all, I somewhere see an importance of isckon. There maybe some faults, but in the end it has done a lot of good work too.

@RamAbloh alright! They are basically running a business.

@Panibotal 😂😂😂

@TheLittleNaruto yes that's true :)

@TheLittleNaruto so basically if you don’t waste or use it then it helps in Grihasth Ashrama?

7:03 PM
@RamAbloh ji your answer on Whether a teenager should read ramayana or gita was brilliant and very helpful (on quora)! On that same day i started reading VR.

@Archit it helps in many things actually. And yeah grihsta ashrama too.

@TheLittleNaruto he ain’t good? He’s useless

@Archit right

@TheLittleNaruto okay I’ve heard one of Sadhguru’s videos talking of how people get affected by hormones and waste virya
What happens in such a case?
And does the production like stop or something? Or they have to get mastery over their hormones?

@Archit Yeah if one person is into sAdhana, and don't waste virya, then the energy flows in up direction which is helpful in unlocking energy chakra.

7:06 PM
What sort of Sadhana?
And then in Grihastha when the virya is used then what about the flow?

@TheLittleNaruto @Archit tho isn't pattnaik somewhere promoting Hinduism? I've seen some videos of him defending Rama.

And what about women then?

@Panibotal thank you!

@Archit you'll know that from your guru if you get initiated.

@Panibotal he’s both. But the logics he gives for things are warped
@TheLittleNaruto and then when you use in Grihastha Ashrama?
What if you aren’t able to resist? Even during Brahmacharya?

7:08 PM
@Archit it's not like you make love for over enjoyment or something. It's for reproduction. It's one of your purushartha which you must do without being addicted.

And and what about the energy flow in women? Don’t they have a monthly downward energy flow?

@Archit it's my personal experience in NNN, tho what r/NNN and r/teenagers claimes was that we'll become super saiyan on 30th November, I'd nothing of that sort. Tho maybe after 1-2 weeks I felt different and powerful. All went well till 15th December and my Ex messaged me :(

@TheLittleNaruto okay so have like 2 kids and stop? 😂😂

@Archit it's difficult at the start. But you can do it. There is nothing a human can't do.
@Archit haha

@Panibotal I’ve tried NNN but failed miserably in the first 2 days😂

7:09 PM
@Archit I think Rakesh should be able to answer better for that matter.

@TheLittleNaruto hopefully

@Archit do dhyana bhajan etc

@TheLittleNaruto where’s he when you need him the most
@TheLittleNaruto I do bhajan everyday

@Archit before going to sleep .

Okay I’ll try it
But you know honestly don’t take it in the wrong sense, virya wastage really hurts also like when you overuse it
It even makes the mind dull and sleep cycle dull

7:11 PM
@Archit Think about parmatma whatever you do. Offer everything to him, even your desires. :-)

Okay let’s try
See god sent you to give me a lecture on this it feels so nice
Really appreciating it

Haha I am lowly being

Definitely not this is your typical dialogue
This is your humility talking

Honestly I’d never g
never go and tell someone lowly being or high being

7:13 PM
@Archit try taking it on your swabhimaan Xd! Think like it's my desire and I'll control it.

This is only because your humble
@Panibotal I don’t have Swabhiman😂😂 became someone who doesn’t care

Let me share this verse from ishavasya upanishad

See even after knowing it’s bad there comes a time when you can’t think what you’re doing and it happens and then you regret it both before and after

I don't remember exactly but krishna says (chapter 5 prolly) that desire is one's worst enemy so.....

> हिरण्मयेन पात्रेण सत्यस्य अपिहितं मुखम् । तत्त्वं पूषन् अपावृणु सत्यधर्माय द्रष्टये ।।१५।।

The face of the Truth is veiled by a bright vessel. Mayst thou unveil it, O Sun, so as to be perceived by me whose dharma is truth. [15]

@RamAbloh @Panibotal @Archit

7:14 PM
@TheLittleNaruto meaning?
स्वर्ण के आवरण को हटाकर क्या?
@Panibotal agree
उस के पीछे छुपे हुए सत्य के दर्शन होंगे?

@Archit the truth is hidden for a general people. They see this world and it's luxury.

But how do you remove the Aavaran?

But they can't see the truth which is parmatma himself
So we are asking sun to help us

No but I know consciously it is wrong but it still happens
Okay
@TheLittleNaruto How can Pusha help?

@Archit Pushan is the Sun

7:18 PM
@Archit Sun is a God in Hinduism
@RamAbloh +1

He’s one of the 12 Aditya’s na?
See I’ve always been confused about this

पूषन्नेकर्षे यम सूर्य प्राजापत्य व्यूह रश्मीन् समूह तेजः । यत्ते कल्याणतमं रूपं तत्ते पश्यामि

@RamAbloh they say Vivasvan is Suryadevata
He’s like the main
Wait
Now they have others- Aryama, Pusha, Mitra, Varuna Bhaga, Trivikrama, etc.
Varuna is water and oceans he is Apampati

@RamAbloh where you took it from. It's simple sanskrit that I also understood. :-)

7:21 PM
@Archit I think those are all part of the 12 Adityas

Trivikrama is Vaman
@RamAbloh yeah

@Archit from Ishavasya Upanishad

Oh lol! I'll have to check again.

Nice
Now Aryama is supposed to be related to the Pitrs along with Yamraj

Yeah there are many different lists in Puranas about who are the 12 Adityas

7:23 PM
Indra - king and rain and thunder. So we have these Aditya’s I.e. Varuna, Aryama, Trivikrama, Indra

but I prefer to look at them symbolically

@RamAbloh wait one sec mostly they’ll be synonyms
So if we have these independently in charge of different areas, what about Savita, Pusha, Mitra etc?

@Archit some of them yeah

See Mitra and Varuna creates Arjuna it is not the sun
The translation of Aditya in English to mean sun is wrong according to me
It actually means Aditi putras na? Out of which the Sun is one of them I.e. only Vivasvan

@Archit correct!

7:25 PM
Pusha has to be related to something else and so also Savita, Mitra etc.

well, if we look at the etymology of these words, then we get slightly different meanings

Pusha can’t be translated as sun
What say?

पुष्यति इति पूषाः

Now one shocking thing for me was this- Aryama being related to Pitrs
पोषणस्य देवता?

Yes
In fact Brhadaranyaka Up. says that the mother Earth is Pusha

7:28 PM
Hmm in what form? Food or crops? Is he agriculture ke Dev?
That maybe symbolic because she yields produce to nourish us
@RamAbloh this maybe symbolic I’m saying because she nourishes us

Everything, but yeah it is symbolic because everything comes from the sun's energy, so maybe the solar energy transformed into earth's energy is called Pushan

Also I’ve wondered what about Savita and Mitra. Just because his name is Mitra I don’t think he’ll be friendship Devata
@RamAbloh Wah Wah Wah 👌👌
Well said well said
what about Savita and Mitra?
And what about their wives? What are they Devi’s of?

सूयते इति सविता - जो प्रसूति अर्थात् सब कुछ उत्पन्न करता है

Who’s Varuna devas wife- Wikipedia wrongly mentioned Varuni Madira as his wife! She’s born of the ocean
सब कुछ उत्पन्न करता है अर्थात्?
This Savita one isn’t making sense
Pusha made sense

He creates all forms

7:33 PM
Btw @RamAbloh you may be interested in bounty questions: hinduism.stackexchange.com/?tab=bounties

Isn’t that Brahmaji? Or too high a post for an Aditya?
RamAbloh do you want me to ask a question on the 12 Aditya? Like since you know? And then like after we discuss here you could answer those?

@Archit as per Vedas, no God is inferior or superior.

It’ll be a good way to give this गूढ़ knowledge
@TheLittleNaruto arey logically thinking 😂😂

Ok okay 😂😂

I don't know if I can cite with sources

7:35 PM
@RamAbloh still didn’t understand
@RamAbloh I feel like giving you a bounty 😂

So I think Brahma as creator god came a bit later... he is actually a combination of many different Vedic devtas

@RamAbloh brahmaji is Prajapati na?

@Archit yes, but Prajapati is mentioned late in Vedas

See Vedas and others shouldn’t be read separately they should be read in harmony with each other. They would definitely be synonyms
@RamAbloh could it be this: the main Yajna mantras are contained in the Samhitas and the way to reach the Devatas is through Yajna and Devata Kanda

True, but within the Samhitas, we can see some change from earliest to latest..

7:38 PM
And gods like Brahmaji Vishnuji and Mahadeva are to be obtained through daily Bhajana
as well as yajnas
And more than that inner Tapasya and transformation
@RamAbloh meaning?

well, the Samhitas contain many different types of mantras... they are used for karma kanda, upasana kanda and jnana kanda

Ya ya correct
@RamAbloh try and see I think it’ll still be okay because no one else would be able to
@RamAbloh so we wouldn’t have indradi Devata for the Jnana Kanda right?
Karmakanda would have Indradi Devata, Pitrigana etc correct?

actually, in Samhitas, Indra, Agni etc are also used for Jnana Kanda

Achha

because same mantra can be understood at those 3 levels

7:41 PM
Ohhhh I see

some mantras only at one level, some at 2 levels, some at 3 levels
adhibhUta, adhidaivata, adhyAtma

okay this brain is trying to grasp a little 😂
Adhyatmya would be jnana Kanda? Adhip Devata would be Devata Kanda?

yes

What about Mitra and Bhaga?
Wait do you know about the Vasus?
@RamAbloh adhibhuta meaning?
And how is Aryama associated with Pitris when Yamraj is already in charge?

Mitra is another name for sun, Bhaga is a bit mysterious...

7:45 PM
Mitra isn’t Vivasvan but there would be some other thing like Pusha

I don't know about specific details about Vasus as in Puranas

And calling him friendship Devata would be weird
@RamAbloh Vedas?
I had a huge doubt regarding vasus

Bhaga is the original prototype for Bhagavan

Eg. Agni and Vāyu deva would be Vasus? Correct?
@RamAbloh Bhagavan should be जिसका भजन किया जाए भज् धातु
@RamAbloh what about reading it together with other scriptures
Wait I’ll show you my Vasu question in case you know anything about them -
And Agni and Vāyu being part of the Ashta vasus

One who has Jnana, Aishvarya, Virya, Shakti, Tejas and Bala

7:49 PM
4
Q: Who are the eight vasus?

ArchitThe list of 33 types of gods in Hinduism comprises 12 Adityas, 8 vasus, among others. The 12 Adityas are said to be sons of Aditi and include Varuna the water god, Vivasvan or Surya. The 8 vasus are supposed to be a separate group of deities from the Adityas. One story of their origin is that ...

Aha! yes, I only know that there are 8 Vasus, but I haven't read about the individual details
There are many different lists
भगवान् जो भग से सम्पूर्ण हो, जैसे बलवान्, बुद्धिमान्, शीलवान्
See actually, all devatas are children of Aditi, so all are Adityas or Aditeyas

I'm not getting anything what y'all are talking about. Where should I start? Any book/scripture? I'm so much interested now.

but then according to their place of action, they are Vasus (earth), Rudras (atmosphere) and Adityas (outer space). Maybe 8 Vasus because 8 directions
11 Rudras because 11 is a prime number and "unstable" just like turbulent atmosphere
12 Adityas because 12 months, 6 seasons, 2 ayanas

@RamAbloh okay
@RamAbloh I’m not able to agree 100%

@Archit no problem :)

7:58 PM
@Panibotal see I started with Wikipedia and general reading and then trying to see 10000 places Wikipedia was wrong
@RamAbloh arey no I mean like only the Swarga Devatas are children of Aditi
They are as what they would call demigods rather than Paramatma or Parameshwara (like Vishnu Shivji Deviji etc)
Just like Indra is in charge of rain and all of them have one one department
Pusha gets nourishment
Similarly Bhaga and Savita and all?

Yes, as per Pauranika Dharma. But in Vaidika Dharma they are all equal and same. no hierarchy in devatas

Then also come their wives who are not Aditi Putris
@RamAbloh shouldn’t Vaidika = Puranic? Without considering English people’s views?
If we can find departments for all of them then why not these few?
Hope your understanding this doubt it’s been eating me since years

Not strictly.... just as Shrauta != Smarta, but there are overlaps and similarities
one second..

@RamAbloh okay but can we say that Vedas say that when talking about The supposedly higher gods, like Shivji, Ganeshji are called all gods -
Ya ya even I’m about to go we’ll continue tomorrow

ok then lol... this is a big topic..
getting late..

8:07 PM
Ganpati Atharvashirsha -
Ya we continue later
Goodnight

Goodnight everyone!

welL come to this Atharva Shirsha tomorrow w

Goodnight !
Although I couldn't understand what were y'all talking about. I'll get through this again.

8:56 PM
@Panibotal ill tell you properly don’t worry
@TheLittleNaruto @RakeshJoshi @RamAbloh @Panibotal @LuckyPashu check this video 1:52 seconds onwards (you can fast forward and finish it in 30 seconds also, though the ending song is really good). So there’s this place in Kerala where the paddy crops had gone dry, rains were scarce and skies were clear.
In 2011 they did a Yajna to please Indradeva for 12 days - Athiratram it’s called. And throughout the 12 days there were clear skies. After finishing the Yajna see this video how Indradeva graces dry lands. Miracle!!!!!!!

1 hour later…
10:22 PM
Yes I know about these yajnas. There is also a documentary on it. Rare
The one in 1975
