Q: Why do the Brahmanas of the Vedas give multiple figures for the distance from Earth to Devaloka?

Keshav SrinivasanThe distance from the Earth to various heavenly bodies is mainly a subject discussed in the Puranas. In this answer, I discuss how the distance from the Earth to Devaloka is given as 100,000 Yojanas in this chapter of Vishnu Purana. But there are a few verses in the Brahmanas of the Vedas which ...

Q: Like Vish and Shiv have reverse spelling and opposite effects, does Sita and Sati have some reason behind their names?

Akshayaa GaneshAs per our Vedic literature, Vish (Vishnu) means creator and Shiv (Shiva) means evil destroyer. I was wondering similar word-meaning similarity between Sati and Sita. Is there any historical evidence for their names as like in Vish & Shiv? Thanks

Today is Adi Shankaracharya's Jayanti
@KeshavSrinivasan I've found that Vishishtadvaita is a sub school of Bhedabheda

@Pandya Bhakti Yoga is a difficult path which requires also doing Jnana Yoga and Karma Yoga. It basically involves the complete set of teachings found in the Bhagavad Gita. Sharanagati, on the other hand, is a simple act of surrender to Vishnu. It is by far the easiest path to Moksha.

And what about concept of God for it? (something like this?)

@Pandya Well, views about the nature of Brahman don't vary according to the path like Bhakti Yoga, Jnana Yoga, Sharanagati, etc. They vary based on what philosophy you subscribe to, like Advaita, Dvaita, Visistadvaita, etc.

@KeshavSrinivasan I am planning to put basic question about Sharanangati ; how about it?

@Pandya Now if you want to know the nature of Brahman according to Visistadvaita, Brahman is Saguna rather than Nirguna, and Brahman is characterized by the six Kalyana Gunas, Jnana, Bala, Aishwarya, Virya, Shakti, and Tejas.
@Pandya By the way, in order to perform Sharanagati you don't need Jnana or Bhakti or anything. You just need to do a single act of surrender.

PandyaI want to learn and study the Advaita Vedanta. So, which are the principle texts/scriptures of Advaita Vedanta? (e.g Vivekachudamani etc.) List (with a bit of detail about) them.

@KeshavSrinivasan How to surrender (what should I think or follow)?

@Pandya You just need to perform a ceremony with a Sri Vaishnava Acharya where the Dvaya mantra is chanted:
1
Q: Where in the Vedas is the Dvaya Mantra for Sharanagati to the lotus feet of Vishnu?

Keshav SrinivasanIt is well-known that the Sri Vaishnava sect (of which I am a member) emphasizes the path of Sharanagati or complete surrender to the lotus feet of Vishnu, as described in the famous Charama Shloka of the Bhagavad Gita which I discuss here: sarva-dharmān parityajya mām ekaṁ śaraṇaṁ vraja | ...

.......Found one article on Wikipedia.......
Saranagati or Prapatti (Sanskrit for "surrender"), in the devotional school of Hindu denominations known as Vaishnavism, is the process of total surrender to God (Vishnu or Krishna). The process of Saranagati forms the basis of devotion to Godhead in the bhakti traditions within the Sri Sampradaya, founded by Ramanujacharya (1017–1137 CE) and the Gaudiya Sampradaya, founded by Chaitanya Mahaprabhu (1482–1533 CE). Ramanuja considered surrender to Visnu and His consort Lakshmi to be the highest goal of life, while Chaitanya emphasizes surrender to Krishna and his consort Radha as supreme. The formal...

@Pandya By the way, you can see a video of the ceremony here:
@Pandya If you want a comprehensive work on Sharanagati, you can read the Rahasyatraya Sara, a work by the famous Sri Vaishnava Acharya Vedanta Desikan:
