Folks, I’m reading a shloka in Ramayana that I do not know how I feel about.
न मे दुह्खम् प्रिया दूरे न मे दुह्खम् हृता इति च |
तद् एव अनुशोचामि वयो अस्या हि अतिवर्तते || ६-५-५
“There is no anguish for me that my beloved is at a distance, nor that she was taken away. Her age is indeed passing away. Only about this, I am repenting.“
Is that right? Is Rama really saying that what’s causing him distress is that Sita’s youth is fading away?

@SuperfastJellyfish - Perhaps he's not sad that she's losing her youth, but rather that she's growing older (i.e. she may become too old to bear him children). That's just speculation, though. Also, the next few lines really are rather romantically dramatic, and they do address the separation: My body is scorching night and day, by the fire of passion, holding fuel of my separation from her and my thoughts of her flaring into shimmering flames."

@CDR yeah, it’s the following verses that made me swerve towards that meaning. Where he describes Sita’s physical aspects that made me wince a little. I do not know what to make of it.
Don’t get me wrong. I am no prude and am have no issues with desirous descriptions from Rama. It shows his human nature. What doesn’t sit well with me is that one shloka within the context of the shlokas that follow.
