Please: if you are ever considered by anyone to be in a successful position, don't grow an ego as if you're omniscient. There is always someone more accomplished than you, remember that.

@J-- For some people, it comes from past abuse.
Some people lived in dynamics where every deviation from "perfection" resulted in severe punishment.
As such, even the smallest hint of criticism may cause a person to be come extremely defensive or shift the blame onto others.
I'm not saying that that happens for every single person, just that there may be other reasons for someone acting like this, other than ego.
