@ThoriumBR The problem with cloud-based storage like Dropbox or such is that if your PC automatically syncs, then it also syncs the encrypted files, and unless you have versioning, you're screwed

I had backblaze and crashplan in mind... an external drive price is not the issue, but the discipline to plug in the drive, run the backup program, disconnect the drive, safely store the drive.

most people will either just plug in the drive and let it there forever, or plug in, create a backup, store the drive in the drawer forever...

a cloud backup will do it automatically, no user intervention needed

Given that most households have much lower upload speed than download speed (e.g. I have 200 Mb down and 20 Mb upload), uploading something like 2 TB would take 9 days.

you don't need to upload the music from start, so blacklist the music folder, backup everything, remove the blacklist, let it backup again

Why not? What if your music collection gets corrupted?

you are more likely to recover a music you donwloaded than a picture you took

so backup pictures, documents first, music later

My music is...unique

Some of it is from demo CDs where there only exist a handful

I had to "recover" my music once

Not one I'd like to have again, but the two guys in the ambulance were very nice, and the doctor who looked at me initially had quite a blast looking at me. The only really scary thing was when the doctor asked me if I wanted to kill myself and I was like "No, no of course not"
