12:00 AM
THC gives you a head high, CBN gives you a body high

@kalina haha sorry im dumb today i miss read cannabinol as cannabisoil
@kalina are you a thc or a cbn kind person ? you are creative (music) so i assume you like the thc

depends on what I'm doing

@kalina that makes sense :)

right now where I'm eating rainbow liquorice twirls while being absorbed by the bed and watching netflix I would rather sit here with a blank mind than be bouncing off the walls

@kalina yes. But dark chocolate best chocolate

12:10 AM
pls white chocolate is the best and dark chocolate is second and milk chocolate is third

@kalina did I tell you my hotel bed on Monday night was a perfect Flooooffff
so far I've not needed to explain it to anyone - they just go "niiiice"

@RoryAlsop no explain needed
I don't know why hotel beds are comfy

@kalina My wife and I are getting a new bed at some point, and I'm seriously considering buying one of the Marriott ones. <3 them.
They have a website. You can buy the beds, the pillows, the sheets, the towels, whatever you like.

@kalina damn it, stop saying things I have to agree with
@Xander you too
many years ago we got our beds from a Renaissance
the hotel was remodeling, so when they bought the new beds we had them get an extra few for us

Q: Can an ip be forced to connect? If so, how is it done, and how can I prevent it?

tox123Can an IP be forced to receive data from another IP (specifically IPv6 for both)? If so how does this work, and how can I prevent this from happening to me? Does that have any way to be broken? If so how can it be improved?

w_t_f

12:21 AM
@AviD Nice!

@Simon I am not sure if that is unclear or belongs on networking
@Xander helps to have a family member in the hotel business ;-)

@AviD Ha ha, yeah, I'll bet.

@AviD It does not belong to this world.

@kalina the one the previous week was shockingly bad - it was at one end of the IHG spectrum. This was the other end :-)

@kalina mmm rainbow flavour

12:24 AM
@kalina dark chocolate with spices or orange is best. White chocolate second. Milk chocolate third. American 'chocolate' last

@kalina You are a horrible human being wtf is wrong with you?

@RoryAlsop The worst to me are ones that are old and worn out. Those are awful.

@RoryAlsop fruit has no place in chocolate.
spices might be interesting though.

@Xander yeah - I need to get a new bed at home
@AviD orange zest :-)

@Simon you mean @Rory

12:25 AM
@AviD there's a really nice venezuelan dark with chilli

wat no

you need to try it

@RoryAlsop eww, you're like an old fogey
;-)

@RoryAlsop Yes, this. I've had this. It is awesome.

think it's one of Green & Black's

12:26 AM
@RoryAlsop oo sounds interesting

oh look i accidentally started a conversation about chocolate

Don't know if what I had was Venezuelan, actually, but dark chocolate with chili.

> We added pink pepper and juniper berries to enhance the fruity notes, while the chilli, ginger, cassia, star anise and cloves emphasise the warmth
@DavidFreitag good man - only cheese could beat this

I'm not allowed to have a conversation about chocolate, I've only ever had what passes for chocolate here in 'murica

12:28 AM

@DavidFreitag yeah I used to like it, until I realized.

@DavidFreitag There's lots of good chocolate for sale in America.

I mean, still a nice snack.

@Xander just not Reeces or Hersheys

It's like boxed wine - still helps if you're thirsty.

12:28 AM
You're a nice snack.
3

@Simon why thankyou

@RoryAlsop I actually do love my peanut butter cups.

@AviD Or you don't have any ipecac handy

@AviD Nooooooooo

@AviD Well that's an interesting euphemism.

12:29 AM
worst combination of peanut butter and chocolate ever

@RoryAlsop Yes. While those are nice in their own way (especially Reese's Peanut Butter Cups) they are not high-quality chocolate.

@DavidFreitag lol

Hello

Good morning gents

12:29 AM
@LucasKauffman hola

@LucasKauffman night night - I'm off to bed

ack my burrito squirted at me

ttfn folks
@DavidFreitag how rude

@Xander its like starbucks coffee. it's fine for what it is, but what it is isnt proper coffee.

12:30 AM
@RoryAlsop \o

Night

@DavidFreitag euphemism

@RoryAlsop ;]

Night night @RoryAlsop

@AviD Yup, 'xactly.

12:32 AM
@AviD Coffee and all coffee-like things are awful and disgusting.

Dammit. @Xander are all american products like that? Pale imitations of the good stuff, but just decent enough to get popular with the riffraff?

@AviD For the most part

Coffee. Chocolate. Beer. Burgers.
sure, there ARE good examples of quality items in america, but those are mostly hipster and far from popular.

pretty much

@AviD I should say, their espresso drinks aren't really proper, but they're fine. Their drip coffee is generally downright awful. It's massively over-roasted, as a rule. McDonald's, surprisingly, has really good drip coffee. Starbucks does have some nice beans. Or used to. They don't seem to do as much of the bean business anymore. They use to have a Sumatran that was fantastic.

12:33 AM
Small batch artisanal.

Or, not hipster, but they are very small hole-in-the-wall places
So you have to be there to enjoy it

@AviD Re-phrase as "more profitable mass-production versions of the good stuff" and you'll have it.

Case in point, the Vermont Country Store.

@Xander Oh I'm drinking a fantastic Sumatran this week. very premium.

@AviD So smooth and earthy with a bit of fruit. Lovely stuff.

12:35 AM
@Xander but dammit man, this is the stuff I grew up with! I didnt know any better until I was already a man!
oh and whisky too.

@AviD Better late than never.

@Xander yeah!

If the vermont country store had more locations and delivered... they would make more money than god

@AviD They have the range. I'm currently quite in love with Four Roses single-barrel Bourbon.
And Knob Creek has a small batch rye that's bitey and wonderful.

@Xander Oooh yeah I think I'll pour a glass of some of that here in a minute

12:37 AM
@AviD Yeah, @DavidFreitag has a bottle of it.

It's a tad strong to drink straight, but damn tasty

@Xander "small batch" exactly

@AviD Anything worth having is not mass produced.

@AviD Yeah, just sayin' America has good stuff in that department. It's not all good, certainly, not by a long shot, but there's plenty to be found.

yeah it took me a long time to learn that
@DavidFreitag Intel CPUs?
ah yeah okay

12:39 AM
@AviD Humans?
halp im dying

@DavidFreitag Call 911.

@Xander Shit I called the ghost busters instead

I AIN'T AFRAID OF NO GHOST I AIN'T AFRAID OF NO GHOST

I thought you died
welcome back

ok i survived
whew

12:45 AM

Q: Are VPNs for iPhones secure?

MattI use VPNs all the time on my iPhone to get around websites being blocked and sometimes just for privacy, but are they secure? In the video at http://techcrunch.com/2016/03/10/watch-how-easy-it-is-for-someone-to-hack-your-iphone/ the guy installed a certificate on the lady's phone that contained...

just carpet-bombed the whole thread
entire thing is "I don't know, I don't know, I don't know"

@DavidFreitag Be'lakor is good!

7:21 AM
Morning all!

@Arperum Good morning

@diagprov It's an amazing morning.

@Arperum You're in Belgium right?
It's amazing here in CH too, spring time is here :)

@diagprov Yup. Why?
Oh, weather has nothing to do with it :p As long as it doesn't disturb train services every weather will be perfect.

@Arperum ahhhhh I am British. We automatically talk about the weather :)
2

7:29 AM
@diagprov I'm counting down to this evening. My girlfriend is coming over, and I'm kind of excited about it.

@Arperum It's Friday also so the evening means... weekend :D

@diagprov Nah, that's noon today :p

7:42 AM
@Arperum Even better :)

@diagprov I have some stuff I need to get done before this evening, so decided to take half a day off.

8:12 AM
dayum
my question got me a gold badge o.o
its so shiny

this is the kind of question gets its reputation from.
@Lighty, the one not differentiating between transport and end to end confidentiality?;)
@Lighty, grats.

@SmokeDispenser Yeah :P

@Lighty, yeah. you didn't care to think about it first?;)
but yeah, grats on the golden badge;)

@kalina three days now. Do I get a badge when reaching 100? ;)

finding urimages for md5 ??
what is this

8:21 AM
@SmokeDispenser It was a question the company I'm internshipping in asked me, and I didn't know the awnser, so I reformulated my question and posted it here

@M'vy, isn't that the term in english... wait

his question basically was, if we use an ssl cert in between two systems, why should I still encrypt the data?

@ShadowWizard pls not for chat
otherwise I'd have a million gold badges

@M'vy it's called pre-image. will fix that, thanks

*possibly an exaggeration

8:24 AM
@kalina Still fairly realistic considering your star-gaining techniques

@Simon I saw this and was about to :O R U SRSFACE and then realized it was about chocolate

@M'vy, it's called 'urbild' in german and I thought I remembered that this is one of the directly-reused-in-english terms.
... like eigenvector
Alse, @M'vy, the mathematical term for a hash collision attack :)

@Lighty I can't help it, I ask questions and the views come

@kalina, it's great, isn't it?

almost like my questions are the same questions everybody else has but I asked them first
wait no exactly like that
I can't eat any more liquorice
it's making me feel funny
possibly an overdose in sugar as well
so sickly
need coffee

8:28 AM
@kalina I heard "overdosing" sugar goes well with something else...

@kalina, is that wise, adding coffee to an liquorice overdose?;)

the liquorice is from lastnight
the coffee has no sugar in it
it still tastes like it has sugar in it
I have broken my ability to taste sweetness -.-

poor girl. hope it'll get better:)

morning all

@SmokeDispenser :)

8:41 AM
You need salmiaki

@M'vy, I did correct that. thanks.
also, added info about guessing encryption from cipher text. concluded with 'your guess is as good as mine'. that was hard to type on a question;)

@kalina my pref. is more milk-->white-->dark

gooooooood afternoon dmz
what's cooking

@LucasKauffman, mornin'

breakfast, you timezone weirdo :op

8:44 AM
happy 9AM:)

@LucasKauffman afternoon

@RоryMcCune in 45 minutes it's beertime :O :O

@LucasKauffman sure but that's true in Scotland too :)

still 12 hours to go here -.-
@RоryMcCune :DD

poor victims
I have many hours before I even have to start doing anything
I may even go back to sleep

8:46 AM
@kalina you out duff duff duffin' tonight?

@kalina having a gig tonight?

"a gig"
I'm performing in multiple locations at multiple events
how to achieve an entire weeks worth of long distance travel in 24 hours

@Xander, regarding php, I just stumbled upon phpsadness.com

@kalina that must require a lot of organisation! do you have people sorting out travel and stuff for you, or do you have to do it all yourself?

@RоryMcCune booking agent does the talking, I do the thinking

8:56 AM
@kalina And the singing, I assume

Can I just confirm that I'm not being excessively picky with something: if you submit an article to a journal, you should be able to write sentences coherently, yes?

@Matthew you would hope so, yes.

@Matthew, one would think that. But, pretty much all over the interwebs there are counter examples;)

@SmokeDispenser buzzfeed.

I quote: "Staffs during the course of their work can use information", "Is a framework, upon, which is used to protect, the data."

9:00 AM
sounds like it was written by that one kid from Malcom in the Middle

@Matthew non-native speaker maybe?

Sections of it appear to be copy-pasted from legislation documents

@Lighty I don't sing

And some of it has been pasted in twice
I can't accept this... Hate rejecting work, but this isn't salvagable

@kalina huh, I always thought you were a singer, then, what instrument does a blue-killer-pony play?

9:05 AM
"what instrument"?
I make dance music, my instruments are a variety of synthesizers sync'd up to a computer

@kalina, samples?

no

@kalina, ah, not if you're using them. If you share some.

thanks @Lighty, now it looks like I'm having this conversation again
Jan 14 '15 at 9:52, by kalina
it's not escapism if everybody still knows where you are

@SmokeDispenser kalina's identity is a well kept secret

9:09 AM
So you do not share your music because you want to keep your pseudonymity?

I do not turn up to random places on the internet and scream HEY I'M <artist>

then retag it and host the mp3 on some data dump service.

doesn't work in a world where shazam exists

ah, right, I always forget about shazam.
So, you are popular enough to be shazamable?:)

@Matthew What's it for/what journal is it?

9:11 AM
@SmokeDispenser -.-

@kalina, too bad though. Would've been interested, like that kind of music for working :)

@SmokeDispenser we don't talk about it too much but @kalina is secretly Taylor Swift

srsface

@RоryMcCune, she revealed she's not a singer.

tay would not even be awake her side of the planet is still dark

9:13 AM
that swift girl is singing, isn't she?

@diagprov It's a UK based reference journal. In theory, the article is about security implications of legislation on specific sectors, but in practice, it doesn't even mention those sectors after the introduction
(not giving the full details to protect the innocent!)

@SmokeDispenser this is true, but then what evidence do we have that Taylor Swift actually sings?

@kalina, I like how your last post is to Is it possible to hide my physical location from my ISP?
@RоryMcCune, fair point.

@SmokeDispenser I'm not sure why
@RоryMcCune the studio acapellas sound pretty clean for her country stuff

@kalina, because of the on-topicness here. nevermind;)

9:17 AM
@Matthew oh dear :)

so now you're stalking your way through all of my posts?

@kalina, nah. It was just on top of your profile:)

@kalina ooohohh
point taken
just having a case of "time for weekend" here

But with some stalking, I like how How do I cook meth? is an acceptable question. gaming question titles always amuse me when in the hot network questions. perfect example.

@SmokeDispenser I knew you were trouble when you walked in

9:21 AM
aaaand stalking tab closed. back to my article it is.

/sigh so shame on me right now...

@kalina, ;)
@kalina, I'm probably not walking away anytime soon. get used to it;)

who said anything about walking away
that's an entirely different song

also, remember I'm from the dark side of the stack exchange ;)

the whole of stack exchange is dark

9:24 AM
That's racist

so is your face

lé gasp
WELL

@Lighty, relating that to racism is racist.

I THINK YOU'RE WEARING 2 DIFFERENT KIND OF SOCKS NOW

;)
@Lighty perfect timing.
@Lighty now everyone in the office is watching me as to why I laughed.

9:26 AM
@Lighty I'm not wearing any socks

@kalina but.. BUT..
sucks are like sleeping bags
for your feet
;(

but I'm still basically in bed
or... on bed

I want my bed now
roll up into my blankets
and become a burrito
Lightyrito

you like burritos too much

@kalina Briefly considers an image of a security professional lounging on a velvet bedspread, looks up, and feels slightly ill

9:31 AM
@kalina I like snuggling and being comfy in a load of blankets way too much
Bed > Life

too bad. LvB is not here.
I cannot right now find a link to the definition of 'crypto scheme', proving it does not require security. anyone got that at hand?

no I know nothing about security
and apparently googling answers for people is rude
so I can't do that anymore either

yeah
I thought about linking this

lmgtfy/HOW2SSL

but that does seem rude,
I went for this comment. comments on that?
@Lighty, is linking lmtgfy banned here, too?
it is on SO;)

9:40 AM
@SmokeDispenser not banned, maybe frowned upon

Morning you lovely people

maybe

@RoryAlsop, morning:)

morning rory #1

@Lighty, on SO, you cannot link to lmgtfy in answers or comments:)

9:41 AM
@SmokeDispenser apparently it's rude
but no, go ahead and use it
as far as I'm concerned the only people who would consider it rude are those with a guilty conscience

@kalina, I went for the nice way, as per my linked comment from above

@SmokeDispenser encoding isn't encrpytion... Encrpytion includes encoding but on it's own encoding lacks a key property of encryption which is that "only authorised parties can read the message"

@SmokeDispenser hehehehHEHEHEheheh @ThomasPornin would explode

@RоryMcCune, that is not technically a property of a cryptosystem.

Mar 4 at 16:11, by Thomas Pornin
@Xander I am ready to bore a hole with a rusty screwdriver in the skull of anybody who describes hashing as "encryption".
almost certainly applies to encoding

9:43 AM
@SmokeDispenser "encryption is the process of encoding messages or information in such a way that only authorized parties can read it."
first line of the wikipedia definition of encryption

since when do we rely on wikipedia as a reliable source of information

@kalina for factual non-contentious topics it's reasonable
however I'm not a cryptographer, just a security person, so I'll defer if one of our proper crypto people disagrees ( @ThomasPornin @CodesInChaos et al)

@RоryMcCune, that is where 'usually, encryption is used to imply a notion of security' comes into play.

next up: DMZ uses encyclopaedia dramatica as a reliable source of information

@SmokeDispenser to me encoding is not encryption, encryption implies an effort for the message to be secret once encrypted and encoding does not

9:45 AM
@RоryMcCune, but I may should've left out the cryptographic hair splitting.

hey @CodesInChaos what do you reckon?

@SmokeDispenser you call it hair splitting, these nerds call it "being correct"
but since you too are probably a nerd you should appreciate their being correct

I only use encoding for reversible unkeyed transformations. Encoding is about changing the representation of data.

@kalina, I do, that's why I'm standing here, trying to stand with 'technically, that is encryption, like the identity is, too, just horribly insecure'. because being right on the interwebs is so important;)

@SmokeDispenser you're standing?

9:48 AM
@kalina, metaphorically.

we don't do metaphors in here

@CodesInChaos that would be when I would use it too, so base64, uuencoding etc
@kalina we don't?

@RоryMcCune no, only euphemisms

@kalina, then sitting it is. but it's timo for coffeine and nicotine anyways, so standing up it is. brb

and innuendo

9:49 AM
oi @kalina, I need some of your magical advice

@Lighty is that a euphemism?

@RоryMcCune, my point was: You can construct a crypto system from any unkeyed reversable function trivially, so basically, you can use that as an encryption, but that is just horribly wrong.

Let's say someone wants to take their mate out for some sushi, but wants to surprise said mate with something referred to as "green", if you catch my drift, just before dinner..... what type? :3c

@RоryMcCune no, not really :P

9:51 AM
also: :D on the euphemism;)

@SmokeDispenser How would you construct encryption given a Base64 encoder?

Today's dress code :-)

@RoryAlsop yay!

Whaddya mean too much SE swag? ;-P

@SmokeDispenser I understand what you're saying but to me (and this is just an opinion) encryption has an implication of attempted secrecy. The word derives from "secret" . Encoding isn't intended to be secret and therefore isn't encryption

9:52 AM
It's a lovely material, this one

Cryptography or cryptology (from Greek κρυπτός kryptós, "hidden, secret";)
not secret == not encryption

@CodesInChaos, trivial set of keys: {0}. enc(k, d) = base64enc(d), dec(k,d) = base64dec(d)
@CodesInChaos, or: arbitrary set of keys with those enc and dec

So the identity transformation is encryption for you?

@Lighty I'm unsure what the question is

@RoryAlsop you should've tagged @Simon there, I'm sure he'd be happy to hear about your schwag

9:53 AM
@CodesInChaos, technically, yes.
@CodesInChaos, like, really cryptographic hair splitting but yes.

@Lighty You should give them lots of dollar bills, yes

Not a very helpful definition.

@kalina what strain of "good stuff" should I suprise Dot with before dinner?

I'd say it's not encryption if it doesn't try to achieve confidentiality.

@Lighty white walker

9:55 AM
what a random question
why not ask what car to take her in

@kalina Reliant Robin

@CodesInChaos, at least in my old university, we used to use the notion of a secure crypto system for the properties that make is secure.

thousands of strains and you want me to choose one for somebody I've never met, whose tolerance I'm unaware of, for an activity you've not fully described

@kalina Citroën H5 (dsx) :3

@kalina ...reminds me of the "back of a Volkswagen" joke

9:56 AM
@RoryAlsop the what

@Lighty then i think you have other problems to deal with rather than the best strain

@RoryAlsop The Citroen CV had removable seats for a nice flat space...

@kalina just eating sushi, person suffers form depression, has a high tolerance... should be enough info :3c

@CodesInChaos, but, that'd be hair splitting. I do totally agree that 'encryption' should imply security and that it is used that way.

@Lighty person suffers from depression? I wouldn't provide them with downers

9:57 AM
@silverpenguin Wait? Having a non-fancy car is a problem?

@kalina more something to calm the train of thoughts
@Arperum Are you calling the H5 "non-fancy"? o.o

don't give perception altering drugs to people with depression
it's entirely irresponsible

@Arperum no having a french car is a problem

@Lighty I don't know. I know basically nothing at all about cars. I assumed so based on the reaction of @silverpenguin
@silverpenguin How and why?

@kalina From Clerks (I think) - along the lines of @He took her somewhere very uncomfortable" - "What, like the back of a Volkswagen?"

9:59 AM
Thats the reason she smokes herself, only to "calm her thoughts" or so I understand xd

It's probably not funny unless you've seen it
@RоryMcCune - that was Clerks, wasn't it? Or Mallrats maybe

@RoryAlsop it definitely sounds like a line from one of those two, but I can't recall immediately...
