@Gilles If I tell you, you won't buy my upcoming cookbook, with such classics as the "meat in the middle attack sandwich", triple danish escargot sandwich (3DES), pudding oracle, the list goes on and on.

wot no new candidates to dissect? :O
erm, interrogate ... waterboarding style :)
@Gilles Didn't you watch the Harold & Kumar Escape from Guantanamo Bay? :D

@TildalWave Then you should nominate yourself :]

9:01 AM
maybe, I could definitely use a new mod hat

10:03 AM
@TildalWave I tried that - you don't get one for each site...just one in total :-(

@RoryAlsop Yeah, you would have tons by now otherwise.

10:19 AM
@RoryAlsop I know, but it would be a good excuse to order a new one. The old one is all worn and un... something, what's the word? :D

@TildalWave pookie? grubby?

10:49 AM
@RoryAlsop English please :)
unpookie?
I like ungrabby tho

no - these two words don't need an un
grubby just means, well, old/worn/dirty/messy
pookie is that sort of worn that an old jumper gets - with the wool getting fluffier

I should probably read Waiting for Godot again, should have many of these hat related adjectives in it

hey guys, so I posted a question 2 years ago asking about becoming a malware analyst and now that I'm close to finishing school and beginning to decide about what to do at university and stuff, I wanted to revisit my options as there was some conflicting responses and wanted to see what you guys thought.
I still want to do things related to malware analysis but lately I've been developing some automated tools to extract dynamically loaded .NET executables/assemblies onto disk (common in crypters) and perhaps thought about focusing on the coding aspect of malware analysis. It's really difficult to decide or make a clear cut decision.

it will be really difficult to give you a tailored advice without drinking a beer that you're paying :P
(didn't wanna sound rude, in my excuse it's really hot here and I'll take any excuse to drink something cold and refreshing)

12:02 PM
gives beer hahahaha.
I think I'll probably just do a degree in CSci and do some electives relating to security and see where it takes me. :P

A: Using Different Algorithms in Single PKI

Thomas PorninAs per X.509, no problem. You can mix algorithms at will. Each signature is independent. (X.509 includes a special provision for when a CA uses DSS and issues a certificate that also uses DSS with the same group parameters, in which case the issued certificate may omit the group parameters. This...

Hopefully I managed to salvage 2 upvotes before the Bear came :)

4:24 PM
does x.509 support multiple hashes per signature?
E.g. sign a cert using both SHA-1 and SHA-256, and have the client trust whichever they prefer?

5:05 PM
@tylerl Yes and no. But in practice, no.
X.509 is open-ended, so you could define your own signature format, with identifying OID, that is in fact two signatures, one using SHA-1, the other using SHA-256.
But this would be supported only by software made aware of your new signature algorithm, so this is pointless (I assume you want SHA-1 for backward compatibility).
So if you want a certificate that uses both SHA-1 and SHA-256, just make two certificates.

Q: Hack into a computer through MAC and IP address

user45016Is my computer vulnerable to someone who knows my modem's MAC address and my public IP address? What kind of vulnerabilities would this imply? Could they actually get access to my computer just with this information?

@Iszi congrats. Enjoy your gold badge, I just gave it to you :-)

@Gilles whoa hey now, why am I getting flagged on a PHP comment??

9:44 PM
@Simon do you get to eat it after?
Also, I need to schedule a trip to Canada. Must visit this heaven known as "Timortonsland".

10:21 PM
@RоryMcCune should it be deleted?

@RоryMcCune oh hell, seriously? how has that not been flagged?
though... I almost dont want to delete such a fine piece of writing....

this question or some variation shows up so often, though. I kinda feel like all the others should be duped to this one.
Because as trollish as the answer is, it's the best answer I've ever read to that question.

yeah well... I get that, but on the other hand - actual clueless newbs, who might actually be looking for an answer, would not find that helpful (I hope), and consider us much as we consider ServerFault.
i.e. elitist, exclusionary, and condescending.
